IceWM has a couple win3.1 themes.. It's also not very resource intensive.

reinstalled ppp and it didn't change) so that now when I try to connect to

Yes it happens with quake or quake2. The system did not crashed
but the keyboard and mouse is totally locked up, and yet the X clock
is still running. If the kernel crashed, everything will stop.
I believe there is a bug with X or the SVGAlib that cause the input
queue to be stuffed. BTW, alt-sys-req will not response if the
keyboard is locked up.

Game is not just a game, it is the most resource intensive program
on your hard disk.

hello guys,

since several nights I tryed to run lilo well on my pc. Have someone a
good idea?

Configuration of PC:

1.scsii have sci_id=0 boot win98 ( 4/2/2 GB partition )
2.scsii have id=2 data disk dos ( 2/2 GB partition )

1.ide hda have w95 ( 2/1/1 GB partition )
2.ide hdc have linux ( 1/0.05 GB partition )

If I install lilo in mbr of 1.ide or 1.scsii everytime I can only launch
linux or the OS of the booting
disk, but never the OS of the other system.
Booting on 1.scsii, selecting w95 responded only "no system on disk" or
if I tryed lilo.conf with
disk= <parameters> same result for 0x82 or with 0x83..0x85 ERR 0x01.

Allthough 1.ide w95 is on first partition, linux named this hda3 and not
hda1 (?). Maybe 1024 cylinder problem?

For all ideas thank you very much.

Try run mc (Midnight Commander) to access them. I can

Apparently "ls" does not recognize non-English filenames.

I use RH6.1 on a K6 200 - 64 MO, and up to now KDE.

Does anyboby know what I should do to solve this problem ?

Since upgrading to RH6.1/Mandrake7, I have been able to use kppp and
minicom with no problem, but can't seem to get the modem to reply to even
the wakeup call from chat.

Logs show scripts timing out from the first "AT" command, which is in the
chat script

exec chat -v TIMEOUT 10 "" AT OK ATDT.....
I've tried all the PPP options off and on in ppp-on and in

Any ideas on what is missing/changed/my error would be appreciated.

Definitely a FAQ
You set up your ethernet with a default route on the ethernet. To solve:

place
noauth
into /etc/ppp/options

Place
route del default
into rc.local ( in /etc/rc.d in redhat/mandrke)

As root run
route del default.

Now everythng should work. If youethernet stops working, put in a
specific route to your ethernet net, not a default route.
Eg put inot /etc/sysconfig/static-routes

>exec chat -v TIMEOUT 10 "" AT OK ATDT.....

chat is bound to stdin and stdout. So you are sending AT to the stdin
(whatever that is once you have branched off chat) and thenwaiting from
the stdin for an OK (which will never come.)

Now, if this is actually being run from pppd, not on its own, then my
comments do not apply. I would suspect a bad IRQ assinment, but you do
not post any of your logs-- just your interpretation of them, and you
admit you do not know what they mean.

Subject: Linux crashes after cooling problem
Date: 29 Feb 2000 09:10:00 GMT

I'm having a strange problem with linux crashing on my pc: when I
run midnight commander in console login mode, open a file in it's native
editor, scroll down, then scroll all the way up untill I "hit the top
of the screen", it gets stuck. Nothing works anymore, no F10, no alternate
login, no ctrl+alt+del. It just doesn't move. Other problems occur with
netscape under x: sometimes it just slows to a crawl, where you have to
wait five minutes until your keystrokes get responded to (literally five
minutes), until netscape just crashes. Sometimes it just gets completely
stuck, not responding at all. The reason I think this is a hardware
problem is that it all started occurring after I experienced some cooling
problems, the cpu cooling unit had gotten detached from the cpu. I must
have run the thing for a while without cooling until I discovered the
problem when installing a new nic. I've installed a new cooling unit,
which works fine, but the problems remain. Did I blow out my cpu, or
is there another explanation?
The system I use is an old Pentium 90, if that helps. I also tried
reinstalling win95 on my other partition, and the installation crashes
too, so that makes me think the os is not the problem.
