I have used it...it works very well...it is a fully functional boot
manager and partition utility. Very easy to install and use...can be
obtained as full version or digital format from

You really should read /usr/src/linux/README after downloading and
unpacking the kernel in /usr/src. Also, check out the kernel-howto at
http://www.linuxdoc.org

Hi,

Does anyone know how to make rp3 (the ppp dialup program in RH6.1) use
script (my isp need one more link type option other than login name and
passwrod)? I check the rp3-config but cannot find a way to force it use my
script. I also tried its debug function and it passed the login and password
and failed when the server ask the option. I tried to go back to netcfg; but
when I try to active the ppp interface, I just have a "failed to activate
/etc/sysconf/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0". The netcfg worked well on my old
RH5.0. I cannot find any different setup between 6.1 and 5.0.

Hi

I recently acquired the above card (Internal PCI), and its proving a pain to
get working under Linux. Im running Red Hat 6, however I upgraded the kernel
to include support for the card, (HiSax support), when the system boots up
it starts to load HiSax then it comes up with :

A : (???) B : (???)
ISDNLink Card Not Installed !

With no other explanation. Linux drivers actually came with the card, I
think it might help to install them, I've got 3 .o files. How do I make
these either as modules, or compile them directly into the kernel ? Im
running Kernel 2.3.41.
If you have any suggestions could you please e-mail me, as I dont get a
chance to look at the newsgroups that often.

HELLO:Sounds like your video display is either not setup properly or the
etc/x11/xf86config file has been changed improperly.Try running xf86config
by typing linux 3 at the lilo prompt(hit enter)Then log in as root.Type in
at the # xf86config (hit enter)This gives you a tool you can use to put in
the proper settings for your video display. Its not very user friendly(its
a text type tool)and you will need to know your monitor refresh rates and
other things but it works.GOOD LUCK WAYNE!

Subject: Why won't NT load?
Date: 4 Mar 2000 08:46:37 GMT

After installing SuSE 6.3 I decided I would like to have NT on my
computer (on one partition) after all. After booting the computer with
the NT disk and going through the installation procedure, I was instructed
by the NT program to reboot the computer in order to continue the setup.

At that point, lilo booted Linux again! Is it necessary to manually
remove lilo before installing NT, or did the NT install fail and is there a
deeper problem? My understanding was that all post-Linux windows installations
overwrite the MBR automatically.

Has anybody had this happen before?

Thanks

Octave ( http://www.che.wisc.edu/octave/ ) is very good indeed. It can
even be made 100% with Matlab up to and including version 4.

I would like to know more about this codes, but don't know where to

I've set up a remote printer (deskjet500) on my RedHat 6.1 box, but when
I print to it using lpr it ignores the "multiple copies" request, ie
lpr -Plp -#2 file prints 2 copies of the file on the local printer, but
lpr -Plp0 -#2 file only prints 1 copy on the remote printer.
What am I doing wrong?

Could you not just do a SSI which includes something like an

<!--#echo var="REMOTE_ADDR" -->

or an <!--#exec cgi.... with a script that calls a 'host username' (have to
find out username first - dunno how?!)

Otherwise I guess I'd just have to have a cronned FTP upload every few
minutes?

I've had this as a normal user but havn't had to wait as long as you
have, maybe 5 minutes at the most.

This happens to me as a normal user if I've previously logged in as
root and started X (Gnome) then stop X logout, login as normal user
and startx.

I find I only have to do this once, login and wait, let it go all the
way, load the icons and everything, then it doesn't let me log out of
gnome, so I CTRL+ALT+BSPACE out of X, then next time I go into X it
functions normally.

I'd also be interested to know if there's a fix for this as it's a quite
annoying feature.

Hi,

Apologies for the advert but I have a number of LJs in my loft. I
will shortly be moving and it has been deemed that I do not want to
take them with me.

I definately have some issue ones, still in sealed plastic wrappers.
I'm pretty sure I have issues 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8(?), 9 and 11.
If anybody is interested I will get them out and check for sure.

I would be looking for ~20ukp for the issues 1 and ~15ukp for the
others. I'm open to bulk and/or reasonable offers.

I'm in Portsmouth, UK, so if anybody is nearby they can drop in and
get them, otherwise it will be registered post.

Cheers,

Alan.

Well, I don't know about stupid, but wrong it is. I put myself off of
emacs by starting it up when I first tried Linux (many years ago now) so
I decided that I should try to learn VI instead, as it had to be easier...
last year, after giving up on vi again I installed emacs and played with
it for a while... at which point I found out the I'd been looking at the
wrong editor for too many years...hate vi? no dislike it? sorta. mainly I
just can't get my head around it, unlike emacs<shrug>

<grin> da moral of dis story is...don't rule out anyfink... ;-)

Have Fun,

I have the latest versions of both Xmms and Netscape 4.7 for GNOME.
Everything is running fine except that xmms doesn't like to play my mp3s
right. I am getting sound, but it sounds choppy or it has static in
it. This is most evident when I start any application, but more

I have even changed the Output Plugin to the Esound configuration.

I am running a Cyrix MII 333 processor and I have 64M of RAM. That
should be enough to handle all the processes. Well it was in Windows.

Right, and the .htaccess (I believe) only works under the server doc-
root. Users can't typically view the cgi-bin anyway unless it is itself
under the doc-root and cgi is enabled anywhere on the site.
