I'm not sure if this is the correct newsgroup, but does anyone know of a
media player that supports the microsoft afs format? i am having trouble
finding one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The FA310TX works perfectly for me in RH6.1. If it works for you in
Windows and doesn't work in Linux, something must be wrong with your
configuration. Did you read the Ethernet-HOWTO and NET-3-HOWTO, etc.?

Not getting an IP address from where? Aren't you setting one, or are you
using dhcpcd? It would be impossible for anyone to help you if you do not
list specific settings.
Do you have the tulip driver compiled into your kernel, or if a module, do
you have 'alias eth0 tulip' (without quotes) in your /etc/conf.modules?

With a PCI card, I don't think you can set an irq. It should all be
automatic (if the proper module is loaded or compiled in).

Hi,
I tried to use mkbootdisk and it wouldn't make a boot disk
that booted the system. Can one use the install disk with
SCSI parameters to boot the system?
When making a boot disk how does one put the SCSI parameters
in to boot the system?
My system needs to have parameters to tell the system to
recognize the scsi adapter. I am using Redhat 6.1

Hello,
I see that you're a physics student.
If your looking for some tool which draws curves, plots, bar graphs
and so on, you should rather give a try to scientifif software
such as Scilab. Of course, you don't have such nice raws and columns
to enter the data, but once you get used to the matrixes, it's much
easier to manipulate thanks to the numerous data-analysis function.
And enventually, to write reports containing tables with data, one can
use LaTeX or, if you feel like using something somewhat more user
friendly, LyX. Hope it helps,
Sacha

Another (maybe even better) example is SuSE. If you have a non-dial-up
connection to the Internet (or your dial-up is managed by an analog router
or another computer that provides ipmasq/NAT/etc.), all you need to get a
SuSE install going are two or three floppy disks. It'll boot from the
floppies and install itself from an FTP site (most network cards are
supported).

If you go over to "www.linux.org" and look under support there is an
"ftape" how-to and a mailing list that covers this. Personally though,
I hate floppy tape drives. I replaced mine last one with a cheap, low
end seagate SCSI 4/8 gig drive and will *never* go back.

And they don't charge you for the test licence. Just ask for it and
you will get it as a mail message. After 30 days the licence does not
work any more.
If/when you then ask for a permanent licence you will need to pay for it.

As far as I know, there isn't one. The file format is proprietary, and
Microsoft hasn't released a Linux player.

What do you mean by multi-input acquisition?
Switching from camera to camera?
Or taking picture from three cameras at once?
AFAIK at the moment there is no Meteor II driver yet and the production of
theMeteor will be discontinued.

I presume you mean asf. If thats the case then the answer is not
currently. It would require one of the following things to happen:
1) Micros~1 releases a Linux ASF player (about 1 second before hell
freezes over)
2) Someone reverse engineers ASF
3) Wine becomes sufficiently stable and function to run Media Player

one thing to make sure is that your DNS servers got dumped to
/etc/resolv.conf. Do
cat /etc/resolv.conf
you should see a couple of entries in there similar to
search adelphia.net
nameserver 24.48.xx.xxx
nameserver 24.48.xx.xxx
if they're not in there, put them in. (Replacing the xxx with your
valid DNS server IP's of course.)

I have exactly the same problem with our Canon 605 office laser; and
none of my other network printers exhibit the problem. The Canon also
seems to ignore it's own "Disable banner page" option.
I fudged my lpr command by renaming it lpr.old and writing a little
script called lpr that simply does:
lpr.old -h "$@"
which does the trick for all programs that print. Not pretty but at least
it works.
Incidently, it took the Canon support folks three months to tell me this was
how to fix the problem (Use lpr -h) for it's printers that use a certain EFI
Fiery RIP. I'd rather the printer took note of it's own options!
Hope this helps

Subject: PPP-problems
Date: 15 Mar 2000 09:34:44 +0100
I'm trying to connect a laptop at home (Suse 6.3, pppd v2.3.10) to a Sun =
Ultra
(Solaris 2.7) at work. This works great with another laptop with linux
2.0.33 and pppd v2.3.6. The Ultra box calls my laptop at home, log on
with a user 'ppp' which has pppd as its login shell. Both sides sends
config requests but they dont communicate. One thing I've noticed is
that the initiating strings sent by pppd on the two laptops differ
(and I've tried with settings in the options file to make the newest
pppd send the same as the old one, but no sucess).
Onother problem is that the login very often fails (mgetty) (with msgs
as 'FAILED Login (ppp), Authetication failure' in
/var/log/messages). This is strange since it very seldom fails when I
log in as myself. How can this be?
Debugging output from both sides and the options file follows.
