Hello all.
I saw a kit to make IDE disks removable like SCSI ones. It supports
hot-swap under windoze, but (ARGH!) there are no Linux drivers :-( Does
somebody know if it's supported in Linux ? If yes, what do I need to use
it ?
Tks, Diego.

Go to the Netscape preferences dialog under "Edit/Preferences". Go to
"Navigator". Under the section "Navigator starts with," make sure
"Blank Page" is selected. It sounds like you still have "Home Page"
selected, but have blanked out the URL of the home page. HTH.

Date: Tue, 14 Mar 2000 07:33:59 -0700
Hi,
I have just rebuilt 2.2.14 with the ide patch (for HPT366 support). After
installing the new kernel and rebooting, mount gives the error 'hda<n> has
wrong
major...' for all my vfat partitions. It has no problem with any of the
linux partitions. I've seen this error posted before but never have seen a
response to it (that made sense). I've checked (and also rerun MAKEDEV.ide)
the devices. I don't understand how its possible for a device to have the
wrong numbers, unless they have changed.
This problem also showed up a few weeks ago when I first tried to mount my
ide ZIP and LS-120 drives. I ended up re-installing Linux...

Hi,
you can do something like (on the target machine)
# rsh souce_box dd if=/dev/hdx | dd of=/dev/hdx

Hi,
actually, setenv is the csh flavour of ksh/sh/bash's export.
and to have your variables set in the calling shell, you need to
source the script, otherwise you will setup a new shell (the one
executing your script). this will be terminated by the time your script
is done - you won't see any changes.
so you have to do
$ . ./my_script
or
$ source ./my_script

Read the WMware web page again -- you need a license
to run the trial version, and the license is not included with
the download.

Get a book like Learning Red Hat Linux, O'Reilly, it comes with a CD, but
you can probably get a later version of RH on a magazine cover by now.
Use the book as a guide and your magazeen CD for the install. Be prepared
to do a lot of reading, and have fun.

I like yourself would like something that works in a terminal
window and allows SHIFT+ARROWKEYS marks text and SHIFT+INSERT
copies it (without cutting it), and so on, just like the dos
Edit program. I'm seriously thinking of editing the code of
Pico to allow for these functions. When I've done that and
spoken to the authres about it I'll no doubt post an
announcement in this group telling of it's functions and
where it is.

Havn't seen anything, there may be announcements in PC Plus.
I'd only buy Linux Answers if there was an upgraded version of RH
on the cover disk, the content of the last issue of the mag was
about 99.999 total crap, not a publication to buy if you want to
know more about the OS or if you're looking for any source of
reliable information. God knows where they got such clueless
writers from.
EG: On the 'Jargon' page they say
Bit mask: A pattern of binary values see 'netmask'
Looks like they asked a C programmer what a netmask was and he
didn't know so he told them it's something like a bitmask. And
the publication is full of other shuch crap. Oh and everything
is geared to KDE, seems like that's the window manager they used
on the one test machine that they had access to (if they've used
linux at all that is).
On the 'Hot List Software' page they feature xrn and say it can be
used for reading and downloading news etc. They don't tell the average
UK user that you also need a news server type app to d/l the news
and put it in a spool (and how to set the bugger up correctly),
virtually no one in the UK reads news on line.
I'm going to have to stop before I get any more angry.

Hi all
I don't have access to a news server most of the time, so I would
appreciate it if any replys can be forwarded to my e-mail address as well
as to the news group
I am considering switching to Linux as my main desktop operating system,
but there are several things that I curently do under windows that I would
need/like to be able to do under linux. Can ppl who know more about the
current state of play than I do please let me know what state the
following things are in:
I have a palm V and I use this a lot, I know there is support for a lot of
things with the Palm V under linux, but I use pocketQuicken to enter my
financial data, and then sync this to quicken on the PC. I don't use any
of the fancy features of quicken, so can anyone tell me if this is
possible using current software under linux?
I also have a umax astra 2000U scanner, is this supported under linux yet?
The final thing that I would like to ask about is the current state of
play regarding USB card readers for the compact flash media used for
reading the cards from Digital Cameras?
One more thing, can anyone tell me anything about a linux driver for the
creative Dxr3 mpeg decorder card, I know there is a driver for the Dxr2,
but I don't know about the Dxr3, any help would be apreaciated
Again, I would appreciate it if ppl could send a copy of their answers to
my email address as I don't have access to a news server most of the time
