Check the symlinks in rc*
[hal@feenix /hal]# ll /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/*local
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Oct 12 17:45 S99local -> ../rc.local*
The 'S' means 'start' at this runlevel. The 99 makes this the last one
started. Might be able to use tksysv to set this up.

Hi,all
I installed xWindow in Linux(RH 6.1) but I was wondering does
linux support right mouse? I am using a PS/2 mouse and I think I
choose the right choice when I configure it but the problem is
the right mouse in xWindow does not make any sense at all, any

Hello. Since I messed up my XFree86 installing 4.0 which doesn't seem
to like to run I started using more console. A friend recommended
screen to get various windows at one, and it seems to be working fine,
excepted that colors aren't being displayed. I have recents termcap and
terminfo entries for screen, so I don't see where the problem could be.
Without screen I get colors. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Humm... I've just installed an old internal 33.6 modem someone gave me, and
(not by coincidence, I think), I've started getting the following messages
from my network card (which uses lance.o):
eth0: Bus master arbitration failure, status 88f2.
To start troubleshooting this problem, I need to know just what that means.
Then I can go from there. Of course, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be
happy to take them.

Hopefully you are setting jumpers properly when switching drives (single,
master or slave). I don't know what would explain why you cannot even
boot a DOS/Win98 floppy after installing Linux. I have successfully
installed RH6.1 coexisting with Win98 on a 27.3G drive (partitioned with
Linux fdisk from another drive) and on a 9G drive on a laptop (using
updated anaconda boot images, partitioned with fdisk instead of Disk
Druid).

It might help if you list what Linux fdisk shows for your partition table.
This might shed some light on whether something is using incorrect
geometry (like if Win98 is using LBA and Linux is using linear).
If your Linux is on primaray (rather than logical) partitions, I was going
to suggest that you put LILO on the /boot partition, restore the MBR with
Win98 'FDISK /MBR' and then set the /boot partition as active (instead of
Win98 partition). But if Linux is all in an extended partition, you would
need to put LILO on that instead. But first you have to figure out how to
get a Win98 boot floppy to boot.

Subject: cable modem can't work with RH6.1...Help!

Hi,
I have been trying to get my cable modem (Adelphia, powerlink) to work
with dhcp under RedHat 6.1. I read through those dhcp and cable modem
HOWTO, it seems people always said once you can get an inet IP address
other than 0.0.0.0 by typing "ifconfig", your network is ready to go.
However, even though I have used "netcfg" to configure the network, and
I have been getting a look-good IP address, the lights on cable modem
all look normal (like it does under window 98), I just can't connect to
internet. What I intend to do is just using the cable modem to connect
my desktop to internet. The cable modem is working fine under Win98.
One thing I don't quite understand is under window98, I always have ip
address 24.48.168,yyy. However, once I used dhcp in linux, the inet
addr become
24.48.168.zzz (a different number). Which one I should use?
My setup is:
host: oh-nnnn.adelphia.net (or should it be localhost.localdomain??)
DNS server: 24.48.56.aaa
gateway: 24.48.bbb.ccc
Interface: eth0 ip=24.48.168.yyy

Have you tried switching machines to different ports on the hub? Maybe
you have the Linux box connected to the port used to connect to another
hub and the switch is in the wrong position (for another hub instead of a
computer). Or maybe you are accidently using a crossover cable instead of
a patch cable (maybe flipping the switch would solve that). Or maybe you
don't have names for LAN IP's in /etc/hosts.

With RH6.1, I did a full server class install and I think the complete thing
took about 400meg. Obviously that included a bunch of crap like dev tools,
sql, bind, etc... The machine you describe will work fine as a (masq
server). Don't know about proxying like squid as it uses considerable amounts
of memory with heavy traffic. Besides, masq'ing works better in most cases
anyway.

That is, all messages mirrored on the root terminal, or some
indication that messages are being sent and to whom?
Better, yet: could could all use of these and similar commands be
denied except on a per-usage basis? i.e.: user1 enters "write user2"
and root is notified and must enable user2 to recieve the message
before user1 may proceed.
And one step further: root decides user3 should also see the message
and causes it to be written to their terminal also?
If so, how?
