I've downloaded Lincity, and I'm trying to compile it.
make lincity gives me errors telling me that the header file (stdio.h,
time.h, etc) cannot be found. These files are on my system, under the
'glibc20' folder, but the 'make' isnt seeing the header files. Is there
a way I can have the 'make' see these??
Thanks

You can download a new 'non bug' version of 'cdrom.img' from the Linux
Mandrake web site. Rawrite it to a floppy, and use it to boot up into
the installation program.

I just recently registered a domain name with Register. And im using space
on a web hosting service called WebSorcery.Net. When you enter in my sites
domain name it comes up with the following error
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
The domain name is directed to my IP, but for some reason it will not allow
access to my Index file. Is this an error on my part of how my permissions
are set? Or something else.
Thank you.

I had a problem with a 3C509B card was able to reset it to a different
IRQ with the program I found at the address bellow. Works perfectly after
I changed the IRQ. Maybe this will help you with your sound card woes.

You could have path problems due to the minimal env. Make sure that you
either set the PATH you need or use full paths. If there is a problem,
cron usually sends e-mail to the user involved, but not if you disabled
that or don't have mail working.

Those aren't the #include files for your system, which probably uses some
form of glibc-2.1. You need to install the (regular) libc development
package, which should populate /usr/include. (Those files are around in
case you want to compile for glibc-2.0.*.)

AFAIK, the graduating ones don't. BTW, it's next to impossible to graduate

Hahaha .. now when you talk about the medical profession, it's kind of
funny -- because the fees are so darn expensive that you simply don't
go to medical school unless mommy and daddy are prepared to support you
till you're 30 and pay your fees, or unless you're prepared to have a
liability the size of a housing loan by the time you graduate.
The problem with medical schools is that you're not going to even start
unless mommy and daddy are filthy rich.

Subject: To Mount or Not???
Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2000 06:06:24 GMT
Just searching for peoples opinions on this issue...
I have a single disk drive devoted solely for backups and non-esential
storage. Its a 47GB scsi external drive (from comp geeks) that I want
to connect to a Linux machine that is powered full-time. It will be
backing up the Linux machine and another Linux/NT machine via
remote rsh and Samba. I'll probably have most of this drive as one
file-system.
The question is this... Assuming I only would want to use this drive
filesystem between the hours of 5pm-1am M-F and all day Sat/Sun,
would it make sense for me to have a crontab automatically unmount
the filesystem when I'm not home and its unused?
It really comes down to a debate of:
1. Is it more reliable to unmount a file system and then have to
remount
it daily; assuming the contents are completely safe while
unmounted.
2. Or is the risk of a file-system corruption so small on an idle file
system that its better to risk a improperly unmounted crash and
not have to do the remounts; assuming the might be some risk in
an unattended mount and umount process daily; and assuming the
file system will be idle while I'm at work and not using the machine.
The file system does not hold any Linux system files.
One other important fact, I have a UPS on the machine that should run
the machine for 45-60 minutes unattended, but I don't have the
auto powerdown working yet, so a lengthly power outage will still
take it down. The machine is an older Pentium that so far
has been very reliable. Running Mandrake 6.1.
Any thoughts?
Brian

I'm proud to announce that WZOLE 4.0N (N for non-commercial) for
Linux/X86
has been uploaded to WZIS Store. Please check http://wzce.tripod.com to
download the software and get a free personal license for it.
WZOLE stands for Wei Zhong Oriental Language Environment, which is the
first
software package able to support the information processing of the 3
oriental
languages with large character set: Chinese, Japanese, Koreanon on
virtual
screens of PC UNIX' (SCO OpenServer 5, UnixWare 2.1 and Linux/X86)
VGA/SVGA
console. It contains a very fast and reliable color CJK Terminal Emulator
running on VGA/SVGA console without the need of resource hungry X
Window.
This version is free of charge for non-commercial and personal use.
To install/use it, please read the "wzole.Linux.README" first.
WZOLE is the best of its class: it has the best line by line
smooth-display
performance; it has the most accurate Chinese code display engine; it
supports
more Chinese encoding systems than other similar packages; it's the
first and
only color terminal emulator which can support both SCO UNIX and Linux
properly;
it's more reliable than other VGA based CJK terminal emulation packages;
and
it's complete.
Try it to see the difference. It could run on an old 486PC with 8MB RAM
and
has excellent performance.

Here's a suggestion: Launch kppp, click on setup, then highlight your
account name and click on edit. Then click on the DNS tab. You need to make
sure that you have given the numeric address in the box for DNS IP address
(something like 216.175.xxx.xxx just as an example; you need to put in the
correct one for your ISP). If you don't know this address, email the
webmaster or technical support at your ISP. Hope this helps.

Alexander,
There are 2 or 3 Linux HOWTOs that cover multiple OS or multiple Linux
distros on one PC.
Try the info in the MultiOS howto at your favorite mirror site. Here's
one that puts it all on one page in plain text. ( this is a method
I'mthinking about trying when I get the time)

The idea that every single thing in the universe should be usable by the
untrained, the uncaring & the uninterested is a fallacy. There is
nothing

Subject: SiS6326 and XFree86 4.0
Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2000 07:30:58 GMT
Hi, there,
Just want to tell you my recent experience with this hopeless card. I
have tried XFree86 3.3.3, XFree86 3.3.6 and this XFree86 4.0.
I let the tar balls of XFree86 4.0 to overwrite my old XF86 3.3.6
because I have made back up of it. So, I began my painful ordeal.
It turned out that the introduced tool called XFree86 -configure did
not work well with my on-board SiS6326 card. It gave me a blank screen
with some meshed background. It was just like the background when GNOME
in RH 6.0 starts. I guess that it was part of a whole Xwindow.
So, I turned to the old RH6.0 setup. I used "X configuration" in the
setup. But it turned out that it could not test X-window. It told me
that "there is a problem with your Xwindow...". So, I have to change
again.
Finally, I used xf86config. It gave me the Xwindow with the new Xserver
using 8 bpp. But I can not start Xwindow with 16 bpp, not to mention 24
bpp.
With 8 bpp, there were still some problems. I could not find the
pointer of my Logitech Serial mouse. It is Microsoft compatiable.
Although there was no pointer for the mouse, I could switch from one
xterm to another by moving my mouse. So, it was kind of a game in which
I had to guess where was my mouse actually pointed to.
Also, there seemed that it still had the same glitches as the previous
x server to SiS6326, such as the shades on the items after the
highlight moved away.
So, I don't know what is going wrong. Especially for my mouse. It was
said that XFree86 4.0 supports SiS6326 better than ever. But...
BTW, my hardwares worked just well in XFree86 3.3.6 except the slow
refresh rate in 24 bpp.
If there are anyone else who has done some work with XFree86 4.0 on
SiS6326, could you share your experience?
Davis,
