Check out Bayonne at:
http://bayonne.sourceforge.net
Bayonne is more likely to be a telecommunication application server that is
scallable and media independent software evironment. You may want to check
the above site to see if voicemail is part of the package.

is it possible to run progeny linux reliably on a Toshiba Portege 7020CT?
Does it support PCMCIA, Docking stations, and ACPI? Also, are KDE 2.1.1
package availabe for Progeny?

StarOffice 5.2 has never crashed on me in months of occasional use on Debian

New class action against Red Hat undertaken by Stull, Stull & Brody.
Former by Sirota & Sirota and Lovell & Stewart for the same reasons.
The complaint alleges that Red Hat, Robert F. Young, Red Hat's
Chairman, Matthew J. Szulik, Red Hat's Chief Executive Officer, and
Marc Ewing, one of Red Hat's directors, violated the federal
securities laws by issuing and selling Red Hat common stock pursuant
to the August 11, 1999 IPO without disclosing to investors that at
least one of the lead underwriters and two of the other underwriters
in the offering had solicited and received excessive and undisclosed
commissions from certain investors.

Hi,
I'm having a confusing problem with permissions for kmidi. It started off
working but now gives 'permission refused' message. I then "chmod 755
/usr/bin/kmidi" and everything works great. However when I log out and back
in or reboot kmidi is no longer executable and I have to repeat the process
(does it everytime).
I have tried doing the chmod both as usr and root. I am the owner of the
file.
Could someone explain what is happening here?
thanks,

Did you get the instrument files for Timidity. And configure the timidity.cfg
file to point to them. It's been a while but I think my system installed
Timidity but it had no instruments. It's a real big file so you should remember.
Look at your config file and make sure it's set up right.
Your intrument patches and maybe your timidity.cfg should be int /usr/lib/timidity.

your problem is that your /boot partition is beyond 1024 cylinders which
your BIOS can't handle nor can your version of LILO.
U will either need to repartition your drive so that /boot is under the
1024th cylinder or upgrade your BIOS and LILO so that they can address a
kernel image beyond 1024 cylinders
the error says ur kernel is on cylinder 1388 and that it is beyond
1023th cylinder (common sense)

Thanks for the pointer. This looks like a full-fledged telephony
system, and it's definitely interesting. Unfortunately, it's a bit
high-powered for what I'm trying to do -- it requires a dedicated
telephony adapter (e.g. Dialogic).

Hi all,
There is a feeling of weirdness in my experience with recompiling the
kernel.
The first time I recompiled it about just a little more than a week ago, I
was
nervous, reading here and there that it might not work, and the system might
not boot. Yet, it booted perfectly.
However, as I go on reading further, experimenting further with each item in
the xconfig menu, the result is more unstable system. More often, the
recompilation
ends with no boot, or flickering every one or two seconds, or suddenly
loosing
support for mouse, cannot mount floppy, other hard disk even all fiesystems
intended to be supported are selected in the process.
Is this all too accidental ? Or some selection may have conflict with other
options ?
Playing around is fun, but sometimes the time cost is quite much more than
expected.

Before you run the configure script run
# ./configure --help
and then determine which options should be added to the ./configure command.
Try it again after removing config.cache and make clean.

Did you try to use the lucidatypewriter font which is there? And did you
check /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/fonts.alias to see what your preferred
font really is?

I have a few notes here. I am running an Athlon 1g system with 384mb of
memory and found that the default 2.2.18pre21 kernel causes all kinds of
issues for me including sporadic sig11's and other wierd stuff. I took this
box to the 2.4.4 kernel recently and compiled it with athlon/duron support.
The problems from before are completely gone now.
One other thing was that I went from debian potato to unstable and still had
problems with things like netscape in X, staroffice, etc with even a new
2.2.18 kernel. After going to 2.4.4, these problems went away; but on my
other box support for my adaptec 2940 u2w card seems kinda strange.
Oh well, I don't boot off of scsi anymore.
