Correction: Windows assumes only one extended partition and this is the last
partition. If you have hda3 as your extended partiton, Windows doesn't expect an
hda4.

Or just type it. The shell is intelligent enough (unless you use
command.com) to handle a for loop. This is why PS2 exists (man bash)
for example.

No they don't. I've used a large number of OSes in the last 20+ years,

performance, and security.

The other machine might be able to reach you with an address

Do you have the bin86 tools installed? On Redhat install
bin86-0.x-y.i386.rpm off of your instalation cdrom. On Debian
machines this should be bin87_0.14.3-1.deb. If you install this
package you shouldn't get the above error.

I tried to install linux mandrake. When I was going to resize my fat

Bad Fat: cluster $cluster is cross-linked for /WINDOWS /AMBNAPEK
Has anybody else run into this problem.
Whenever I use a windows boot disk I get the message that I don't have a
valid fat32 file structure. Could this have anything to do with it? Plus
when I press the ctrl key when Ez-Bios is starting up it says that my
hard-drive isn't 32-bit enabled. Could this have anything to do with it?

Because it's less convenient, that's why. If in all the time I've used
Linux, I've been able to log in as "myself" and not as root, why would I
want to settle for using sudo for ppp?

Most programs that I've seen permit non-root access.

Today I found out how to log in as a non-root user. Briefly, here's what
I did to make it work:

1) set up a file called "name" in the directory /etc/ppp/peers
2) inserted various pppd options in the name file, in the same format as
the /etc/ppp/options file.
3) made the name file readable by non-root users
4) inserted options in the /etc/options file, similar to those in the
"name" file.
5) replaced the ppp-on script with: pppd call name lock

If you'd like a copy(ies) of the files I've just referred to, please
write to me and I'll be happy to send them.

Hi,
I have just installed linux, and seem to have a small problem.
I think my path is setup correctly, but have some trouble
running some programs. If I write a program in a subdirectory
on my home directory and compile it, I have to type ./program
to run it as opposed to just "program". Is this a problem with
my path? Any ideas on how to correct it? Thank a lot for any

It has nothing to do with Linux. Your windows partition has errors on it.
This means that some parts of the filesystem belongs to two files.
Run scandisk to repair it.
