=================================================================
This is the Linux Counter summary as of Fri Mar 31 17:10:26 2000
There are 140126 persons registerd.
3023 users have been registered by friends.
There are 73424 machines registered.
I guesstimate that between 0.2% and 5% of all Linux users have
registered with the Linux Counter.
So the total number of Linux users is probably between
2,802,520 and 70,063,000 people.

Are you sure that's exactly right? Typing "mount root=/dev/hdc2" at the
boot: prompt said something like can't find image "mount".

"debugfs" is your friend, if you haven't tried that already. (you didn't
mention it, though the "immutable" bit made me think.) Sounds like
something... weird happened at some point; might want to e2fsck the
partition after terminating the file with extreme prejudice. HTH,

Thanks, that's a solid point to make. I should reconsider more about
since most of my comrades are Microsoft syscophant only because of its
variety of softwares. For me, I want a stable OS to do what normal people
do on computer w/o crashing unexpected. It's a bad habit to restart the
computer--at least--for me. Or perhaps I can get my friends to use Linux,
there gotta be a first person right? Anyways thanks.

I've been playing about with WINE for the past few days.
That does work. (I've only managed to get two LARGE apps working under it so
far though... A paint prog... And a 3D renderer. And they failed on some
things)
Mind you, WINE is one of the things currently in concentrated developement,
and the version I tried was from Dec '99... It's probably improved a lot
since then.

Node locked? Does that mean it fixes itself to one individual computers IP
address and won't work on any other???
GOD that's bad... (If that's what node locking means... Never heard of it
before)

I don't know if it's supplied as a standard module, but you could just
recompile the kernel for it. There's no need to download anything, I don't
think. It's one of the kernel config options.

Look at your modems manual. There's an AT code that forces it to wait longer
for the dial tone. (I had to use it myself when I was in University halls of
residence, because the phone system "blipped" the dial tone 6 times when you
had a message waiting.
