Hello,

Perhap there are solution for the problem described in the subject. I
think the transfer can be for example via ftp. But my Linux PC have no
NW card, so can I config the access via serial or paralel port? If yes,
how can it be done?

Thanks

DON'T buy the Lexmark Z-series stuff. They're Windows-only printers.

When the IBMPC first came out there were three operating systems
available
for it, DOS 1.0, CP/M-86 and the UCSD P-system

However, DOS was the cheapest so the others faded away.

Did you turn off anacron as well as cron? And atd?

You can find out who is starting the process by doing "pstree -p" and seeing
who the parent of the find is.

The job is indexing the files on your system. When you run the "locate"
command to find a file on your system it will check the index, so you
don't have to wait so long.

Are you sure you have installed the "telnet-server" RPM on the host? If
not, you'll get the error message you describe above.

"rpm -q telnet-server" will tell you if you have it.

What's happening is that inetd is allowing you to connect to the telnet
port but then it can't run the telnetd program. You will see this in
either /var/log/messages or /var/log/secure.

From: David Taylor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Lpr printers halting on me!!!!!
Date: Fri, 14 Apr 2000 16:45:51 +0100

I have set up lpr printing on my linux server, printing to both network
printers and standard printers via a network print server. This all
appears to work wonderfully ... for a while, and then all of a sudden,
without warning, every printer stops printing any more jobs and they
just end up filling the spooler directories.

I have set up the printers in the printcap file as follows:
Network Printers....
CBS_NP_01|HP Laserjet (Support):\
        :lp=:\
        :rm=CBS_NP_01:\
        :rp=raw:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/CBS_NP_01:\
        :mx#0:

Network Print Servers (D-Link DP100s)
CBS_01_COM1|Epson TM-U950:\
        :lp=:\
        :rm=CBS_PS_01:\
        :rp=CBS_01_COM1:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/CBS_01_COM1:\
        :mx#0:

The directories in /var/spool/lpd have all ben created with a mod of
775, owner daemon and group daemon.
The remote machines have all been setup correctly in /etc/hosts.
there is no password setup on the D-Link DP100 print servers.
The lpd process starts at bootup and atr this point works correctly,
but as I said after a while the printers stop, and I have been
re-starting them as follows:
lpc stop all (Stops the lpr printers)
ps -ax | grep lpd (to find out which lpd processes are running)
kill <pid> (Kill all the lpd processes)
lpd (re-start the lpd process)
lpc start all (re-start the lpr printers)
once I have done this all the printers then burst back into life,
printing all the jobs that have been queued, and then continues to print
without problems.... until it stops again.
Please help as this is driving me nuts and I am getting grief from
everyone... :o(

That's not how I remember it. From what I remember the CP/M version
wasn't available on day 1 but came out somewhat later.

Nonsense. I too remember articles about this mouse, although it may
have appeared in the very early 90s. I was at Sun from 1988 and using a
more traditional optical mouse at the time. So your statement about
"nobody else in the universe" is now demonstrably false.

Hi guys, I'm using kppp to dialup with my v.90 modem. I wonder if there's way to
downgrade my modem to v.34 so that I can connect to a 33.6 line. I tried the init
string AT&F+MS=11, but it didn't work. Please help me. Thanks.

Kenny

Don't answer messages like this.

I would be willing to bet that these e-mail addresses don't belong
to the person who posted this message.

They just want to make trouble for someone else.

To add to what others have said: there is a HOW-TO on combinging
Linux with Win9x. Read it, since it contains helpful information.
To add to the how-tos: before you do anything else, make a win98
boot disk and make sure you can boot from it. Write down your current
partition table, too, if you are on the paranoid side. Back up any
critical data (you should do this anyway, right?). Make a list of the
hardware on your system. Win98SE can help you, there. Check the
install manual for your distro to see what you are likely to need.

Hello All!
I have a problem. I have two operating systems on my computer - Linux and
Windows 98. After some incorrect operations, which has made one a crazy man,
I have some disk errors. He (crazy) changed files /etc/lilo.conf and
/etc/fstab. And Extended Windows partition has vanished! But Windows
see drive(D), but say - device not ready, size of space equal 0 bytes. Fdisk
of Linux see this partition, defined it as FAT16. May be loader of logical
partition is dead?
Tell me please, do I can to recover my disk?
Thanks! Dima.

Old joke: Windoze is "Where do you want to go today", OS/2 was "Where do you
want to run today", and linux is "Where do you want to fly today".

You may be right about day 1, but I think all three were available
within the first year.

This is a point worth noting. Microsoft has not been innovative
in regard to computer technology itself, and finding a few rare
examples where it has merely proves the point... but Microsoft
has been *exceedingly* innovative at making money in the
computer field. Many other companies have come, and gone. A few
others have done relatively well for a while, but only very few
have consistently done well.

Bill Gates has not only consistently done well, he has
consistently been the best at doing well! The man has
*repeatedly* been able to find a way to remain on top in a
business where the usual experience is like a flare: a burst of
heat and light that is only temporary.

I do not use Microsoft products, but I am not about to dismiss
Gates or his company as insignificant or inferior. Even though
I have no use for what they make and sell, they *are* impressive.

Subject: Deleting Linux partition...
Date: Fri, 14 Apr 2000 19:05:31 +0200

I'm having a problem with my linux partition, and need to get it erased.
The big problem is that for the moment I can't run anything on this
partition - don't know why.

So I have to delete it from M$-win98.
How do I get Fdisk to recognize this partition, and how do I delete it???

Do I need partition magic, or???

Please someone reply, I've lost 4Gb HD, and 4 nights trying to solve this.

Regards

Lars
