I don't know Illustrator.

For vector editing, I use xfig. GYVE is also supposedly good though
I've never used it. See http://www.maru.cs.ritsumei.ac.jp/~sanchan/gyve/

I had the same problem after upgrading from Mandrake 6.1 to 7.0. So I
downgraded to the ghostscript rpm on the Mandrake 6.1 cd and that fixed it.

KIllustrator (a KDE program) is vary nice though nowhere as featureful
as
Adobe Illustrator might be. Deneba came out with Canvas for Linux in
beta
form recently. It is still a little buggy since they are using the
Winelib
like Corel. Also there is CorelDraw from Corel.

Maybe you should use junkbuster which blocks cookies, graphics, etc
based on
the URL. It acts like a proxy server to which your browser connects to
and so
is fairly transparent. You do need to add the block list yourself though
though
there might be some sample ones around the net.

I'd much rather spend my time posting publicly as that can have some public
value.

The URL below recounts a presentation I did on Internet filtering
technologies a couple years ago.

Most relevant to your needs would likely be one of the filtering web
proxies like JunkBuster. <http://www.junkbusters.com/> Runs nicely
on Linux and Other Fine Computing Platforms.

In a vt, 'setup' is your friend. (this assumes Mandrake left Red Hat sw

Hitting [ctrl][alt][numpad +] or [numpad -] will not reel thru X colors,

I havent setup rdist but the man page says that there are two cmds
it might use (compile options) one being rsh ... and if so then it runs

    rsh host -l remuser rdistd -S

and man rsh implies it might use rlogin ... I'm guessing that
it might use the /etc/pam.d/rlogin file ... could check by attaching
strace to the inetd (using the -p<inetd_pid> option) , fire in the
the rdist and see which inetd client is invoked (if any) and which
pam files it uses ... and mangle them (pam is on my todo list) .
The Security-HOWTO contains some info and there is a
Linux-PAM-0.71-docs.tar.gz somewhere out there.

I guess that this is the security aspect of not allowing remote
root logins and you will need to consider whether you are happy
with that ... if so then probably the /etc/securetty file figures
in it somewhere ... perhaps also as the pam_securetty option.
Sorry I havent dabbled there yet.

Cheers,

Fortunately, that's right. That's why most employers who adopt your
"little caesar" line have high turnover and poor productivity.
They're miserable places to work.

This attitude is typical of the small businessman, who frequently
exudes this contempt for his employees. Just as he assumes that all
his employees are lying thieves, so the employees correctly assume
that he is himself a lying thief; one who will cheat them and lie to
them whenever it suits him. The result is a tense, unpleasant
workplace where everybody is on the lookout for opportunities to screw
someone, while at the same time being hyper-paranoid about the
possibility of being screwed themselves.

No thanks, I don't want to work for you. Been there, done that. I
prefer to work for an employer who treats me with the respect I
deserve.

Chances are, you are d/l'ing in ascii mode. This will usually cause
the file to be corrupted. Be sure to set `type binary' before
starting the d/l.

Here's what I do. When you compile a new kernel, one of the
newly-made files will be System.map. I name this to
/boot/System.map-<kernel_number>.  I then make a softlink
/boot/System.map->System.map-<kernel_number>. Each time I make a new
kernel, I can then simply upgrade the softlink to point to the new
file. I do this for the kernel, also. So, I have a /boot directory
that looks something like this:

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root  root      18 Feb 26 20:47 System.map -> \
                                               System.map-2.2.12a
- -rw-rw-r--   1 root  root  177548 Dec  1 05:13 System.map-2.2.12a
- -rw-rw-r--   1 root  root  361850 Feb 26 11:20 System.map-2.3.47

        [ ... ]

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root  root      15 Feb 26 20:47 vmlinuz -> vmlinuz-2.2.12a
- -rw-rw-r--   1 root  root  478120 Dec  1 05:11 vmlinuz-2.2.12a
- -rw-rw-r--   1 root  root  661331 Feb 26 11:21 vmlinuz-2.3.47

Then /etc/lilo.conf looks like this:

# Wed Oct 13 1999 12:45 am
image=/boot/vmlinuz
        label=2.12
        read-only
        root=/dev/hda1
        append="parport=0x378,7"
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.3.47
        label=2.3
        read-only
        root=/dev/hda1
        append="parport=0x378,7"

The outcome is that you can always have a backup kernel to boot to and
keep track of which kernel versions you're using without a lot of
hassle.

Which distro? Probably a PAM problem. Try this change to first line in
/etc/pam.d/rsh, rlogin, rexec. This should let you in with only rhost
type authentication. Note that this probably is not a good idea unless
the network is pretty secure, as you are bypassing quite a bit of
security checks.

Subject: help with dual Win98 and Linux6.1
Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 21:30:05 GMT

Hi:
   I have a AMD K6 II computer. I partitioned the hard drive(4 GB) into C:
(2 GB) and D: (1.79 GB). Actually I installed Win98 on C drive and Linux6.1
on the D drive, but when I tried to reboot my PC, it only boot Linux6.1.
So, I decided to Format Win98 (on C drive). Now I only have Linux6.1 on my
system and C drive is empty.So , my question is how I should reinstall
win98, which can dual boot with Linux6.1. please more specific with
steps.....thank you very much....

Yeah, there's a bunch of text-mode or command line utilities
like Archie, gopher, lynx etc.. but ftp is probably the easiest and
one of most widely used.

Just type ftp and at the
'>' prompt type 'help' for a list of commands(you can get by
pretty well with just 'open' 'cd' 'pwd' 'get' and 'put' for starters
(and don't forget 'bye' to disconnect.)

man ftp
