Hello all,
Can anyone recommend a good mail server for linux? It should provide
both IMAP and POP services. Any experiences you can relate to the
software would be greatly appreciated.
On a side note, my current mail server runs Netscape Messaging server on
AIX. I hoped that I would be able to copy over all existing messages
without a problem. But Netscape doesn't have any good documentation on
the storage format (AFAIK), so I wonder how much different they would
be?
Many Thanks,
Robert

I must authenticate, via RADIUS, users in an NT and Apple domain.
NT is a no-brainer. Apple, well, appears to be impossible.
Does anyone know if something exists for Linux to import the user names
and passwords from a Mac server / domain to Linux (and maybe from an NT
domain also)?
We will have Macintosh, Windows 9x/2000, and Linux laptops dial-up a
service provider who will send us the RADIUS challenge. We want to
authenticate this against their domain account..

If I remember correctly, this is a protection against the serialized Intel
processors. It's been awhile since I came accross this, but if you do some
searches on the net you can find the procedure for the kernel not to try
disabling serial numbers.
Then again I might be thinking of something totally different.

Subject: What's Here for the Lowly Speaker?
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Martin McCormick)
Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 21:14:41 GMT
Are there any sound libraries that use the P.C. speaker and
timer/counter so that one can write code that uses the P.C. speaker to
generate alarms or make musical sounds.
The Mix C compiler, for example, has a function called sound
whose syntax is almost exactly the same as the basica sound command
sound(frequency,duration);
The frequency is in Hertz and the duration is in 55-ms clock
ticks so if you want a 1-second beep at 1,000 HZ, the command looks
like:
sound(1000,18);
What's .2 seconds among a few friends?
Of course the Mix C PowerC compiler is for MS-DOS. I am just
using the sound function as an example of what I am looking for.
It should not be difficult as the noise maker pretty-much
seems to be built the same way on almost every P.C.
I have written sound routines in assembler under DOS and they
are simple. You just write a 16-bit divisor to the counter's latch
and then turn on the D.C. signal that allows the speaker or
piezo-buzzer to work.
I would even entertain the idea of building such routines, but
I don't yet know how to do that properly under Linux.
I know that the P.C. speaker isn't particularly glamorous
compared to the most basic sound card, but it has its uses.
So, what can anybody tell me about what is already out there?
Many thanks.

I want to get a video card that I can also use as a VCR. In my research on the
internet, I have discovered that the Marvel G400 and the All-in-Wonder are
both supported under Linux. The All-in-Wonder appears to be better supported,
but I really like the Marvel's ability to play video on the TV-out while I
continue to use the monitor for computer work.
What recommendations does anyone have for these two cards and their use under
Linux?

Not so..... Win2k is built from the NT platform & very few of the capture
devices I've looked at (Miro, Pinnacle, Dazzle, & Matrox) support any NT
platforms beyond 3.5.
Can't say about Linux though.

Try this at the lilo prompt
linux x86_serial_nr=1
It sets the kernel not to look for the Processor serial number. RH6.2's
default kernel was built for P3 and P2 chips that have this code. I
have only been able to get the above command to work with the boot disk
that I made during installation, so if you have one I would try it with
that if it doesn't work at first from the Hard Drive.

BCC is similar to LCC.
But when I use BCC and read the receiver of the message
reads it using pine she/he does not see her/his name in the
field To:, everery receiver sees the same eg. name if I put
there name:; (I mean To: name:;)
Any suggestion?

Before I start I'd like to say that I am not an expert and so anything I
have to say may be completely wrong.
It sounds like your machine is either overheading or overclocked. Best
thing to do is add a system fan and make sure that your case is arranged to
allow a good flow of air over the processor and PCI cards. If you are
clocking your machine don't. Set it back the way it was on purchase. I'm
running a 700Mhz Thunderbird and have had no problems in Linux. I'm
running kernel 2.4.0-test9.
Hope that helps

I've never used the Matrox, but I would probably go for that. The AIW has
decent 3D support (the AGP version, anyway), but currently has no support
for decent video recording. They're working on getting the Xv extension to
act as a regular v4l device, which means that, in theory, xawtv should be able
to record video with it. However, I believe the Matrox is already a supported
v4l device (you might want to double check this). Also, the AIW does not have
working TV-out.

Yep. Reboot the machine and check the BIOS setup to see whether you've
enabled any power saving options. Look for anything in the BIOS that puts
the CPU to sleep during long periods of inactivity.
I had the same problem as you've described and that's how I fixed it.
