The "ed" command will accept such an edit statement via stdin, and
allow saving to the file loaded. You'd have to put it in a script
which would load the file into an ed process, pipe the "g/^ *$/d"
command, along with a "wq" command, then loop.

Something like:

 echo -e "g/^ *$/d \n wq" | ed file_being_fixed

put this in a loop where the file_being_fixed changes for each loop
and is supplied by the pattern of filenames you want to process.
(The version of echo above must allow the "\n" to be interpreted as
a newline character. Depending upon your "echo", the -e option will.)

I have an account named 'mux' that i want people to work from, but in
order to keep track of who's on, I want them to log in as their user and
su to mux. I've been trying to use '/etc/security/access.conf' to block
all true login access and it's not working. I added the following line
to it:
-:mux:ALL
As far as i can tell, that should do it, but you can still log in from
telnet, ftp, and the console. The system is running RH 6.0 w/ PAM
upgraded to 0.72-7. If anybody has any ideas I would greatly appreciate
them.

Date: Mon, 17 Apr 2000 02:20:23 GMT

Newbie question here. Is it possible to upgrade a RH 6.0 install (that is
working perfectly) to a RH 6.2 version without having to do a re-install and
reconfigure? Are there a group of RPMs I can download to do the upgrade, or do
I have to download the ISO image of 6.2, burn it onto CD and then do an upgrade
install that way?

Email replies appreciated.

Thank you.

In my /etc/fstab, my DOS drives are set to user and noauto. In my
{HOME}/.profile file I have added 'mount /mnt/win98' , 'mount /mnt/zip',
etc to make my DOS drives READ/WRITE able to me after I login. It works
great, with one minor problem: If I logout and login again I get a error
message for each drive telling me that they are all ready mounted or
busy.

This doesn't really cause a problem other than an error message, but I
got to thinking..there must be some way to check if a drive is mounted
before trying to mount it again, like an 'if...else' statement. What
would that script lool like?

Hi,

I recently installed RedHat 6.1. We adopted a printer, Apple LaserWriter
IIg, but it doesn't seem to be supported by RH 6.1. Does anyone happen
to have an idea how to get around to being able to use this printer with
Linux?

Thanks!

You can get a 'Direct Serial' modem driver from
http://www.mindspring.com/~kewells/net/.

Why M$ doesn't include one I don't know...

Jeff,

You need WavPlugin-0.8.tar.gz from the Netscape site (I think that is
where I got it). This contains both WAV and MIDI plugins. They work fine
with the hamspterdance site.

Well, or a bunch of xterms running vim - I've come to like both the
same.

I don't have that many mailboxes to check. I just run fetchmail with
the following command:

fetchmail -d 900

Fifteen minute intervals to get all my mail is frequent enough with
the low volume that I deal with.
