It HAS to be a number... The DNS derives the IP number from the name.
If you enter the name of the DNS, then how can it resolve itself ? Try
205.200.16.65 for starters, then e-mail freeserve.net for the other..

With Red Hat 6.1 telnet is most likely running. It is not a demon by
itself but run out of inetd. Check for a 'telnet' entry in /etc/services
and /etc/inetd.conf
It is easily tested from your local machine by typing 'telnet
localhost'. You should get a login prompt. If you do not and telnet is
listed in /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf chances are that inetd is not
running. You can confirn this by typing /etc/rc.d/init.d/inetd status.
You can start it by typing /etc/rc.d/init.d/inetd start
I hope this helps.

One or two options:
1) who's been sleeping in MY machine? (the unlikely option)
2) icky filesystem - what is this, NTFS or something? What state
are the 'rm' processes stuck in, "D" or something more polite?
(Big tip I picked up here: if you've got 30 processes stuck in
state 'D', each one adds 1.0 to your "load".)
3) icky hardware - overheating HDs?
4) another *very* strange option, syslogd bombing out - is that
occupying lots of CPU and is /var/log/messages still being
written to?
(OK so I can't count either ;)

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember from my last dual-boot experience
that Win98 has to be on the first partition of the first drive for it to

Thanks so far, I seem to be getting a bit closer. A problem that is
happening now is that when I try to get messages I'm prompted for a password
that I don't know. It isnt my root login and it isn't my internet logon

Hi,
A crc error is usually associated with a bad spot of your hard disk. If
possible, try a different hard disk, or try a different version of a linux
distro, so as to place the boot image in a slightly different location.
During disk formating, be sure to ask the distro install to check the sectors
during format.

You don't say what kind of tape drive you have. But if it is an SCSI
tape then check out http://www.arkeia.com they have a free one you can
use for personal use or try it to see if it will do what you want. I use
it and it works great once it is configured.
