The closest thing looks like the 'pegasus' module (Note: I am looking at
kernel 2.4.0 docs in SuSE 7.1). If usb support shows up in dmesg or
/var/log/messages when you boot, you might try 'insmod pegasus' and check
logs again to see if it is recognized. Otherwise check
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/Configure.help about this:

USB ADMtek Pegasus-based ethernet device support
CONFIG_USB_PEGASUS
Say Y if you want to use your USB ethernet device. Supported
  cards until now are:
    ADMtek AN986 Pegasus (eval. board)
ADMtek ADM8511 Pegasus II (eval. board)
    Accton 10/100
    Billington USB-100

Don't have one; I haven't set up DNS on this computer. I didn't
think it was necessary in order to go through hosts. I was
getting ready to set it up but never got around to it.

>Say try /etc/hosts first, then dns and the rest is documented

Yep. Two how-to's I've found so far.

I did something that got me back to startx and syslogd, not sure
what. I think it was lying via linuxconf and saying that dns was
necessary.

That's nice - I can get on with my work - but the ping issue
persists.

The book I have on this is : Operating Systems: Internals and Design

Good book, not about source, more about the working of the OS.

I am trying to replace the compiler packaged with redhat
7 (gcc 2.96) with the current stable release, 2.95.2.
But, the compile dies with what appears to be incorrect
code. I'm running a pentium2/300 w/ 192 MB.
Does anyone have suggestions? Or, are there RPMs
anywhere? (I've looked on gcc.gnu.org, but I didn't
see anything)

Any help is appreciated!

Here's the error dialog:

Audio in the second session? Er, what format is the audio in? If the
burner of the CD put regular CDDA tracks in the second session, they
should be whacked with a Clue Stick, because standard audio CD players
are not multi-session capable and so won't see the second session at
all. (The proper approach is to burn one session consisting of 1-98
CDDA tracks as the first session, then write an ISO9660 filesystem image
as the second session.)

cdparanoia is the thing to use for reading CDDA. If the first session
is data, it should be track 01, and the second session should consist of
track 02..whatever in standard CDDA format. Try using cdparanoia on
track 2 first and see what that gets you.

If that doesn't work, "readcd" takes a sector range. You can use
"cdrecord -msinfo" to find the sector range of the first session, then
use readcd to slurp in the entirety of the second session. I don't know
how well that will work if the second session consists of CDDA, but it's
something to try.

Subject: object DBMS with Internet access
Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 01:28:49 GMT

Take a look at http://www.unixspace.com/context

This is an object DBMS ConteXt with an Internet access. If you click on

"Live connection" -> "connect as guest" you will connect to a real
database application.

DBMS ConteXt has an interesting technology connecting the client (user)
and the application. The client is using a standard Web browser.
Connection is accomplished by means of a Java applet which is loaded
from the database server. Java applet emulates a SSH protocol.
Differences from a standard java SSH/Telnet applets include:

1. ConteXt uses only one port (80) both for loading of the applet and
for communication.
2. ConteXt has an ability of not only operating in the alphanumeric
mode, but is also capable of drawing lines, circles, outputting GIF and
JPG images, use a programmed graphic color palette (64 colors), etc.
3. The applet has an ability to activate some Java classes by means of
Esc sequences coming from an application written in C/C++.

Thus ConteXt implements a GUI interface without the increase of traffic
for transmission of graphic information and ability to use Java AWT
classes directly from C/C++ applications.
