Hi,

I've been trying to compile Dia 0.86 on Mandrake 7.1 but get reports of
missing config scripts during ./configure.

The last messages output by configure are:
*** The libart-config script installed by LIBART could not be found
*** If LIBART was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the LIBART_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to libart-config.

*** your path, or set the GDK_PIXBUF_CONFIG environment variable to the

*** If IMLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in

*** full path to imlib-config.

I can query the RPM database and see that the packages related to these
config scripts are installed, but I still can't find the actual scripts
themselves.

I'd appreciate some insight on how to resolve this situation.

Thanks,
- Jonathan

Suses Yast contains a LILO-Config-Tool, which you can use.
Manually it would something like:

/etc/lilo.conf:

boot=/dev/hda
read-only
prompt
timeout=100
# Suse 6.2
image=/boot/vmlinuz (use _your_ kernel-image file from Suse6.2 here!)
        root=/dev/hda1
        label=Suse6.2
# Suse 7
image=/mnt/path_to_mounted_suse7/boot/vmlinuz
        root=/dev/hda2
        label=Suse7

Note: Use _one_ version of Suse to configure LILO or adapt _both_
lilo.conf-files accordingly. Don't forget to run lilo after editing
/etc/lilo.conf.

Hope it helps,

  Lars

you would send it to local mailserver, and it would queue it and
send away when link comes up. You have two options - you may send it
directly to recipients (which may be time consuming and not recommended
for dialup hosts) or define SMART_HOST, i.e host which knows how to send
mail further in your mailserver configuration. Of course, you should use
SMTP server of your provider as smarthost.

First, you'll have to check the cylinder arrangements for the hard
drive while it's in LBA mode. My 10GB disks are reported as having
around 950 cylinders each, which effectively ends the "large disk
problems". Any really new and flashy BIOS should do the same for a
6GB disk (and that large a disk in a laptop in the first place
tells me the BIOS should be new enough).

If the BIOS _does_ list a ridiculously low number, then install
Windows 2000 as normal, and follow up with Linux. Else, you'll
have to use Redhat (as it's the only distro I can remember which
puts the kernel in /boot instead of /) to create a 20 MB partition
the beginning of the drive, exit setup and install Windows, and
then install linux, mounting the /dev/hda1 partition as /boot.

The first option might work anyway, if you use the redhat setup
I mention above, especially if the cylinders number in the low
to mid 1000's (1200-1500 cylinders). I have no clue as to how
this can be made to work with other distro's though, the slack-
ware box I'm using at home has Win2K on hda, general files on
hdb, linux on hdc, and a cdrom on hdd.

I guess You have to install the appropriate -devel rpms as well. They
have the same name as the other RPMs
(i.e. libart-<version>-<release>.<arch>.rpm), but with -devel appended to
the name (libart-develt-<version>-<release>.<arch>.rpm). Install those
and dia should compile.

I have got Apache and tomcat working together on a RH6.2 box but I was
wondering if I have done it correctly. I have used the FAQ's and
Manuals but I am not sure.

When I start Linux up Apache Starts and then I have to so start.sh
which starts up Tomcat, but I cannot the do anything else with that
session, I assumed it would start in the back ground as a process and
that I would get the session back, I would also like to automate the
start up but am having problems working out how to do it.

Has anyone out there managed this? It is my last sumbling block before
dumping NT and moving to Linux completely, which I am dying to do.

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes when I get too zealous playing with my procmail script, I mess

when I repair the script, and verify that mail delivery is working

rawtext, of course).

Is there any way to flush this mail into my nice lil Pine inbox again?
Or am I condemned forever to try and read through the header mess, hand

I would suspect a hardware problem or device conflict. If possible,
boot up on a DOS diskette and use HIMEM.SYS to test memory. (HIMEM's
built-in test is fairly good at spotting flaky memory.)

No, but possibly that will help. Unfortunately I couldn't verify it yet,
because at the end of the 3rd session of my new attempt (after which I
would have controlled it) a hardware error appeared during the eject and
the process wasn't finished properly. The CD-R wasn't ejected at the
end, and the writer won't open to give it back; looks like we will have
to reboot the machine :-(

You could try to use WinPopup in login and logout scripts to send a

I have this chipset. You must add Option "no_accel" to
your device section. Also it may not recognize all of your
video ram. Try adding the option for the video ram size
(can't recall what this is right off since my ISP is Windows-based).

If you are getting no readable display at all when you run
XConfigurator or the X portion of the RedHat install you
may have selected a video mode which your monitor does
not support. Try using 640x480 standard VGA to get your system up, then
trying higher resolutions that you know your monitor should support.

For the mouse cursor not working right also add the option "sw_cursor"

YMMV. My recent experience is framebuffer still is very "EXPERIMENTAL" when
it comes to simplifying my life keeping servers running full function.

I appreciate all the developer time costing me nothing to have these rather
sophisticated tools available. My complaint is that short of taking various
tedious kernel recompiles there seems to be no way at boot to opt out of it
to keep production systems running X on "obsolete" video hardware.

I just did two RPM kernel 2.2.16 upgrades on production Turbolinux boxes as
security measures for the lower kernel bugs. It went flawlessly, except for
bugs starting X services in both, apparently because framebuffer won't play
nice with the "obsolete" or "unsupported" ATI Mach video card in each. Some
of us in the real workaday world cannot run down to Fry's on the weekend to
see what might work with new "features" in kernel upgrades, or particularly
enjoy recompiling kernels on production machines just for the helluvit.

The framebuffer HOWTO I looked at notes ATI cards are a problem because the
developer(s) didn't have ready access to them. Ergo, that's at least a good
reason from the start to know there should be consideration for keeping the
kernel hooks in place for some minimal "obsolete" video/X functions.

It just seems it would have been a nice courtesy for a failsafe way to bail
out of framebuffer bleeding edge video development as a *stock* boot option
(as, vga=obsolete or whatever in lilo.conf or whatever) rather than another
tedious kernel recompile on production systems.

This would indicate that those memory chips are faulty. If true,

replace them as soon as possible if you want a functioning system.

Depends on the MTA you are using. For sendmail or postfix it would be
/usr/sbin/sendmail -q
which causes the MTA to try and deliver queued messages. This should
flush the queue when everything else is working.

You could respool the mail with formail, IIRC. The details and some
