I started using 'rxvt' instead of 'xterm' some time ago, and I found
that I could not see myself when issuing 'who' or 'w' (this was running
Solaris at work though).

Im installing RH 6.0 from CD on to an Intel machine. The process goes
smoothy until I reach the choose an installation class section. No
matter which one I choose sooner or later I get the error "failed to
open /tmp/syslog no such file or directory". One of the console
windows has the last message that says "no scsi devices are avaliable."
Any ideas how to solve this?

Hi,

Was the floppy formatted? Were you logged in as root? Does /mnt/floppy
exist? Mount won't like it if not. You may need to check the permissions
on /mnt/floppy otherwise non-root users won't be able to write to it.

Failing that have you tried the 'mtools' suite?

You should be able to do things like

mdir a:
mcopy file.* a:
mformat a:

Check man mtools

p.s

For formatting a floppy under Linux - there are easier ways such as
'kfloppy' ;-)

fdformat /dev/fd0H1440

which does a low level format of a 1.4M floppy...followed by (pick one)

mkfs -t msdos /dev/fd0

or

mformat a:

which write the filesystem

Why mainly RH? RH is not considered `THE' linux (at least not by me ;)
If you're more interested in easy and quality of sysadmin, suse may be a
good comparison. If technical ability of the system, DIY or slackware (i'm

But have fun, this kind of thing has never been done before :-)

This you can tell by looking at what modules you have loaded or have

Look at the .config file that came with your distros kernel source in

When I change to 6.2, this problem exists and I cannot solve it.

This rare problem does happens in my Tulip.o network cards.

I unplug the RJ45 for 150-200 seconds and replug the RJ45 again.

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade an SMP system with a Mylex Raid card from RH

error occurred because it can't read my partition table. What's strange
about this error is that I'm running RH 5.2 without any problem. I also
have NT installed. Do you think that this problem is caused by NT? Some
of my students believe that NT is locking the MBR. Do you think if I
removed NT that this problem would go away?
