I only tried this the other way around: SuSe rpms on RH. It does occasionally
complains about some dependencies, but then I just look up RH's equivalent,
install it and then force the SuSe rpm to install without regarding
dependencies.
So far it works great.

Then again, InstallSheild, possibly the best installer in Windows
land, is even worse. Go figure.
Do people really have trouble with ./configure, make, make install?
It has _never_ been a problem for me. Maybe I am just lucky. Even
though I changed my compiler, libc, and libtools.

It makes no difference to an end user what the source license is.
The Regents of University of California, Berkley choose their
license. I get to choose mine.
If you want something that makes no sense, go to an NT box and look at
the file \\WINNT\System32\etc\SERVICES. You will see a document from
IANA that Microsoft has slapped their copyright on. They didn't
change a single character in the file. Tell me that makes sense.

The right is non-exlusive. That means everyone can get that right. I
think TrollTech is just trying to prevent forking of the Qt library
here.
' And section 5c) (on linking to QT)

I believe you mean 6c here. Sounds a lot like GPL to me. How is
TrollTech going to find out about internal code? As far as they are
concerned, it doesn't exist. Remember, GPL requires that you make the
source code to derivitive works available.
If you create extensions and place them under GPL, the QPL can not
remove the GPL from those extensions. If TrollTech were to do that,
there would certainly be quite an outcry from the publishers of free
software.
As I said previously, if you don't like the Qt license, you can create
your own library. There is no one to stop you. You can also use one
of the other available libraries.

1. You have to use YaST, not Yast2. The manual does say something about
it, a whole chapter, if I'm not totally mistaken!!
2. Installing SuSE Linux has never been so easy. SuSE 6.4 is
definitively my favorite Linux distribution as most hardware is
automatically recognized, it comes with plenty of software and the
support database is great.
Sorry, just had to get if off my chest... I felt I had to express my
enthusiasm about the new SuSE after I upgraded my Linux system

Subject: Different Win/Linux Macromedia Flash behaviour
Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 09:18:55 GMT
I've just published a Flash site for a firm. I require the user to have
Flash version 4 or higher, so the index.html contains:
1) a small Flash applet that uses some special functions of version 4,
and if these functions are successful it loads the real site
(flash.html).
2) a refresh meta tag: it waits 10 seconds, and if the flash applet was
not successful (i.e. user has version lower than 4) it loads a warning
page (noflash.html).
The problem is that this stuff works perfectly using Windows Netscape
version but not with the Linux one! It always loads the warning page!
Address of the site is http://www.cosmecsrl.com
Any hint?!? Thanks!
PS: you will notice that flash.html is a two frame page: one empty.html
(really empty) frame and one intro.html. This is to avoid Netscape from
showing vertical scroll bar.

Just put "rdate -s tock.usno.navy.mil" in root's crontab and it
will synchronize with the atomic clock at the US Naval
Observatory. Or substitute and other public time server instead.

This differnce from distribution to distribution. That works is:
starting linux with init=/bin/bash at the lilo-prompt. after booting you have a
root shell, but your root device is read only, so you must involke the command:
mount -o remount,rw /
and than a mount -a
now you can change your password !

How about x3270
ftp://crl.dec.com/pub/X11/contrib/applications/
ftp://ftp.eu.net/X11/contrib/applications/
is two sites that should have.
x3270 is included in the "ports" tree in freebsd, and yes i have
used it. It works.
At least 2 terminal based 3270/telnet emulators is also 'out there'
i might have a copy at home.

the problem isn't with the install, it's when you go to remove or
upgrade. sometimes it's hard (or at least tedious) to figure out what
all things went where. then when you find a random file, you wonder
where it came from. rpm doesn't really solve the shared config
tweaks very well (like editing an init script to set something up
while leaving setup for other stuff). rpm is clunky and sometimes a
pain in the ass, but it's not completely useless to me.
