Is there a scientific visualization software that is almost
similar to Origin for Windows. IDL/pv~wave is a monster
rather than Origin-like. Especially, I am looking for a
plotting program that does insets easily.

Thanks.

Subject: [Q] sound mixing & EsounD Compatible S/W
Date: Fri, 02 Jun 2000 21:20:25 +0900

Hello

I want to know how to mix two sound source(16 bit PCM) concurrently.
I receive two voice data sent by two different people via packet.
so If two people send voice data simultaneously, I received the data
from both A person and B person, and them mix them to one sound
play back /dev/dsp.

In order to make two sound sources to be felt one sound,
how to mix them ???
As the data were sent by UDP packet, the receiving data are saved to
string
(characters buffer) with very odd character. So I don't know how to
treat them.

and.. One more question.
How to make the ESD compatible S/W.
ESD support sound mixing which means you can play game with its own
sound and
listen music from mp3 concurrently.
You can get ESD from http://www.tux.org/~ricdude/EsounD.html.
In that page, they do not describe the method to develope ESD compatible
S/W.

Cheers..

@Thanx in advance

We're selling Abit motherboards for a while (I currently work in sales
dept of a small computer firm),
and recently I've noticed a very interesting CD along with Abit BE6-II
MoBo - Gentus Linux.
It's Abit version of RH6.0 with patched kernel with support of UDMA66
HPT controller and packages for PC health monitoring.
Maybe, this info will be useful. Look at Abit homepage.
Personally I think Abit makes very good MBs, and BIOS updates ain't that
bad.

I'm running GNU Emacs 20.5.1 in Linux Mandrake 7.0 with the Helix GNOME 1.2
desktop. One of the configurable options in the GNOME Control Centre is the
selection of a default editor, from a drop down list box. I've selected "Emacs"
as my default editor, but right-clicking on any file in the GNOME file manager
and selecting "edit" fires up a new instance of emacs, whether or not one is
already running, and WITHOUT the file loaded.

I have (server-start) in my .emacs, and my .bash_profile has EDITOR=emacsclient
in it.

Note: the problem is NOT simply that a new instance of emacs is always started,
but more importantly that the file to be editted is NEVER opened.

Has anyone got this working in GNOME?

Thanks in advance,

Darren

That file contains what is called a "core dump".I am sure you have seen in
Windows messages like "This program has performed an illegal operation and
will be terminated ".
Well, something similar happened in some program you are running, and the OS
captured all the memory in use at the time and saved it to this "core" file
after halting the program. It would be useful to someone who knows how to
use a "core" file to determine the cause. Otherwise , you can safely remove
it.

I noticed someting funny about GNOME on RH 6.0 : The first time I start it
up ( after a fresh install ) it generates a core dump. Thereafter, things
are just fine....

also run "locate -u" as root and look for core files lying around in other
directories.

man locate for info on it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a _console_-based app
that has various calendar/scheduling facilities?

Under X, I have tried KOrganizer, which is OK, but I want to run
the app on a system _without_ X ...

Two partitions, hda6 and hdc7, are listed as ext2 partitions in the
partition tables. They are actually FAT32 partitions. Does this ring
any bells? Try to mount them as vfat, and if you feel like it, change
the type (ID) from 83 to 0B using Linux fdisk.

Also, due to Windows bugs, you should change the ID of the extended
partition on disk 1 (hda2) from type 05 to type 0F.

Tell about the result, and ask if there are any problems.

Subject: kickstart problem
Date: Fri, 02 Jun 2000 14:04:58 +0000

Hi,

After floppy boots, I get the message: Error opening: kickstart file
/tmp/ks.cfg: No such file or directory
Eventhough the entry for my PC in the dhcpd.conf is set but still it
couldn't find the kickstart file. No error logs from the dhcp server.

In the dhcpd.conf, the entry of my pc looks like:

        next-server 145.122.2.31;
       filename "/dist/kickstart/";
        option routers 145.122.7.59;
        hardware ethernet 00:e0:29:55:9f:dc ;
        fixed-address  145.122.7.59;

My ks.cfg looks like:
(/dist/kickstart/145.122.7.59-kickstart)

    lang en
    network --bootproto dhcp
    nfs --server inst.cmc.ec.ca /sw/RedHat62
    keyboard us
    install
    timezone --utc US/Pacific
    .................................

Can someone help me please?

Thanks in advance,

Binh Ngo.

Subject: running checkergcc on i686 + mandrake 6.0 + pgcc-2.91.66 ?
Date: Fri, 02 Jun 2000 14:03:28 +0000

Hey!
Dont know if this is the right group... Nevertheless :
My team encounters pb in developpong a huge software and I suspect
overstepping of arrays :=(
We spent three days trying several memory checking products : Electric Fence,
dbmalloc, ccmalloc, ...
The most promising (on the paper) is a GNU product : Checker,
the others dont give us the requested information.
Current version of checker is 0.9.9.1 for i386.
Unfortunately, the original sources do not compile on my platform
(i686 + mandrake 6.0 + pgcc-2.91.66)
Wilson patches (http://www.fitz.cam.ac.uk/~cmw32) make it compilable,
but not runnable (segmentation fault on startup).

My question : does anyone know how to make Checker runnable on a platform
like mine ?

Thanks to Cc to my own address.
