Hmm.. I did mean to write 128 Kilo bits per second and not bytes per

Subject: Linux kernel builds on different platforms
Date: Thu, 08 Jun 2000 20:11:04 GMT
Hi! I'm in the process of upgrading my RedHat 6.0 box to the latest
2.2.16 kernel and I asked myself: has does the Linux kernel
configuration process (I'm using xconfig and Tcl/Tk) know what hardware
platform I'm running on?
When I choose the processor I have, I only get Intel x86/Pentium
choices. No PPC. No MIPS. No Sparc. Does these platforms have
different source trees from which those kernels are built or is the CPU
type info dynamically determined somehow.
Does anybody know?
Thanks in advance for your time.
Peace....

These are not "files", 'preamble.mk' is a "character special file" and
'srt_super.mk' is a "block special file". They were created using the
'mknod' command.
Hmmm... can you change the permissions on them?
Try "chmod a+rw preamble.mk srt_super.mk" and then rm'ing them.
...but I'm not at all sure it works.

Well, yes, if you're booting off of a device that doesn't need a module.
If you have a SCSI drive that needs a module, there's no place to store
an initrd file and have it accessible at boot time. But modules installed
from an initrd still don't have access to parameters passed by lilo to
the kernel (as far as I can tell).

Perhaps it's the soundcard itself. Check by putting the card on your other machine. It
seems there is a leaky capacitor somewhere. It might also be a problem with
initialisation, check if the card is being initialised properly if it is an ISA one.

Show a part of your /etc/crontab Basically you have to do
0 1 * * * <command> <arguments>
see=20
man cron
Also you can use=20
crontab -e
to edit and place your cronjobs (you do need to know how to set up cronjob=
s for that) if the jobs are done by users. System cronjobs are defined in =

Unfortunately, I didn't realize that RealJukeBox was soooo proprietary.
Unfortunately I had already scanned in all my CD's! I *ASS*umed that
RJB would store the files in a somewhat standard format. I *ASS*umed
incorrectly. 8^)

Hello!
I have a XEROX DocuPrint 4517 printer which is connected to my linux box

I just want to know what to do to get it to work.
I've used xpadmin to set up the queue and selected tcp/ip and gave it a

select an ip-port. I don't know if that should be necessary in this
case.
The printer works fine with windows and tcp/ip but in windows I need to
specify a port named "PASSTHRU'"
Can anyone help me?
Hopefully

Lowercase b stands for bit, uppercase B stands for byte. In SI-like
standards, B stands for byte, but there is no abbreviation for bit, so
yu'd just write 128 kbit/s, or, if the k was meant to mean 1024 and not
100, 128 Kibit/s.

Your perl script will receive any input from the TCP connection on its
standard input and any feed to its standard output will go back
through the TCP connection.
Therefore, just treat/test the script by typing what should go in, and
it'll print what comes out. Then put it into /etc/inet.conf and it's
all done!
Socket programming is _so_ much easier than in Windows :-)

Try typing 'spell' and type a misspelt word, and see if it repeats it,
and then a correctly spelt word, and it shouldn't - I spent ages
