Hello,
I'm having a pretty stupid problem, I agree, but please help me, please !!
In order to execute a Linux command (executable file) I have to type indeed
the whole path and the name of the executable file EVEN IF I AM IN THE SAME
DIRECTORY AS THE EXECUTABLE FILE.
I need badly to get rid to the whole rest ofhe path and to be able to type
only the name of the executable.
What should I set in the Linux system in order to get rid of the path
when I type a command? (I have root rigths) !!
Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!

Do I need to keep the linux-2.2.13mdk source in /usr/src? I see a bunch
of subdirectories, and some *.h files in there that are taking up space.
Is it common to keep it in expanded form for say, compiling purposes or
something? Like the includes?

Yes, but dpkg/apt (the system used by Debian, Caldera, and Storm) is
*superior* to Windows' InstallShield in every way except user
interface. If you don't like the interface, write a better one.

Have you installed XFree86 4.0, which uses TrueType fonts? I haven't
either (don't use many fonts), but it's supposedly enormously easier
to handle.

Hi,

It is because you are browsing the mounted file system in
either a terminal or filebrowser.
Make sure that you close all programs or change to a different
directory in your terminal before you try to unmount.

example...

Let us say I mount my CD-ROM and I browse it in an xterm.

(I issue the following command to mount it)

[root&localhost]# mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom

(I then change to the directory I have mounted my cdrom)

[root@localhost]# cd /mnt/cdrom

(I then do an "ls" command)

[root@localhost cdrom] ls

It will then list all the files on that particular cdrom.

Now if I try and "unmount" my CD-ROM, it will tell me
that it is busy because I am "theoretically
still using my CD-ROM . All you have to do is change to
another directory and then issue the
"unmount command.

Cheers

in the PATH variable, the current directory isn't included (i think it was
for security reasons?). So if you are in /usr/bin/ and you want to execute
the 'myfile' executable, then type: './myfile'. If you are in /usr/bin and
you want to execute /bin/myfile2, then type '/bin/myfile2'. I think you can
change the path variable in /root/.bashrc or for other users:
/home/user/.bashrc .. Tip: if you have typed /bi, then press the TAB key..
the n will appear.. For longer names this can be very fast ;-)

You need to install some modules for php3/apache...
in my case it was:
mod_php-.0.3-1.i386.rpm
mod_php3-mysql-3.0.12-1.i386.rpm

When you type a command in at the shell prompt, it starts going
through your PATH environmental variable and looking for the
executable. If your current directory is not in the PATH, then it will
not find the executable. Add a . (period signifies the current
directory) at the end of your path, then after checking all the other
directories in the PATH, it will look in the current directory. If you
want it to look in your current directory first, put it at the begging
of the path

KSH and BASH:
'export PATH=$PATH:.'
or
'export PATH=.:$PATH'

put this in your .profile or .bashrc or whatever to get it in your
environment every time you log in.

You need to setup your PATH variable:

csh/tcsh:

in ~/.login:

set path=(directory1 directory2 ... $path)
(or
setenv PATH directory1:directory2:...:$PATH
)

for sh/bash/ksh/zsh:

PATH=directory1:directory2:...:$PATH
export PATH

You *could* include '.' in your path, to allow you to run programs in
the current directory, but this is no really a good idea. You should
put the programs you use regularly into some 'standard' place.
Normally, most user programs are in /bin, /usr/bin, and /usr/X11R6/bin.
Locally installed optional software is usually in /usr/local/bin. Many
users create a directory off their home directory named 'bin' and put
personal utilities and scripts there and include ~/bin in their path.

If you need to run a random program on a one or occasional basis and the
program is in the current directory, you can type ./program to run it.
This is commonly done for one-time 'throw away' scripts.

I use fvwm2 on my Mac and my compaq laptop. I have KDE and GNOME
installed on both. In fact, on separate accounts, I have
Enlightenment/GNOME and KDE/KWM runing. But, for my everyday syuuf. I
use fvwm and both KDE and GNOME apps. This lets me use whatever app
works best.

There can be other reasons. Say you launch a program while your PWD is
in a partition that later you want to umnount, and then CD off that
partition. The filesystem is tracking where it was launched from, and
this will cause it to be busy also. Use something like:

 lsof | grep <DIR_NAME>

may turn it up. Also, a corrupted filesystem can leave things messy and
report a FS busy when it is not. Been there, learned the hard way.

What IP is assigned to your end of the ppp connection and what name does
nslookup return for that IP? That is the only IP and name you could
receive mail directly through at this time, but would NOT work in the
private IP ranges 10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x or 192.168.x.x. And that would
only work reliably if that IP was static (same every time).

216.34.13.231 is also a nameserver green.idirections.com and (future I
guess) virtual web host for www.under1sun.com and others. There is no
reverse lookup at all for that IP. Regardless of which name is used, port
25 there answers as: 220 Milk Run SMTP Server Mail ready. You could
probably send mail from there using CGI, but not receive it at that IP.

>4.) Can i set my Linux Box IP to 216.34.13.231, which is same as

You cannot use that IP on your box, because it is a different box on the
internet for web hosting. You could call your box 'mail.under1sun.com' or
any other hostname.under1sun.com and still could NOT directly receive mail
there. But you could set your smtp server to masquerade as
'under1sun.com' so replies to outgoing mail would come to your POP server
at your ISP.

That is just because it is looping back through 192.168.100.50 on your
box, but that IP is not accessible from the internet.

Like the other reply said, see 'man fetchmail'. If it is not installed,
install it, and there is a fetchmail configuration tool available. The
.fetchmailrc would be something like:

poll mail.namezero.com with proto POP3
user <user> there with password "<password>" is <user> here

Don't put < > in there, just substitute actual values.
