Another hint is that all GUI applications usually begin with X or x.
Gnome apps usually have gnome at the start and KDE applications have
a `k' prepended. You could create an Icon that called mpg123, but
you have to give it a list of files to play. Here is a command line
I use,
        mpg123 -z -q /mp3/*/*.mp3 /mp3/*/*/*.mp3 &

This plays all of the MP3 files on my mp3 partition. This plays in
the background and I don't have to have the xmms program running.

With Gnome, you would right click on the gnome bar and select `add
new launcher'. Insert the command
`mpg123 -z -q /mp3/*/*.mp3 /mp3/*/*/*.mp3'.

hth,
Bill

Take a look at the 'ulimit' command. Use "ulimit -a" to see all limits
that are in effect, and read the manual page to see how you change
them.

This command works in bash, there might be differences if you use e.g.
csh or another shell.

This is the most ignorant question I have ever had to ask.

I have a dual-boot PC--linux and w2k. The old w2k partitions I had
mounted in linux ro with no problems.

I created a new partition on my linux hd, for bulk storage and
communication between the two OSes, and (using SAMBA) with my w95 box. I
created the partition and set the type to Win95 FAT32 (LBA) (as root, of
course). I then switched to w2k and formatted the partition as fat32.
Went back to linux, added the partition to fstab and mounted it. Then
used swat to make it available to SAMBA. It was visible, and mounted
fine--but could not be written to. I spent a lot of time fidling with
SAMBA before realizing that only root could write to the partition in
linux.

The mount point is rwx for all users when nothing is mounted. When I
mount the partition only root has w permission. And roo can write with
no problems. So the problem is permissions, not just rw vs. ro.

I feel sure the solution is simple, but I don't even know whether the
problem is in linux or in w2k.

Which FM do I need to R?

TIA, Gerry

For a complete bash shell under NT with all the standard gnu

There's also a nice NT port of xemacs.

Sounds like /etc/resolv.conf is not set up properly or at all. On the
first line, you should have the word "search". (Without quotes). On
second and succeeding lines, you should have the word "nameserver"
followed by a space and the address of your ISP's DNS server(s).
Mine looks like this:
search
nameserver 206.138.224.150
nameserver 206.66.10.46
nameserver 206.66.10.94
nameserver 206.66.12.36
nameserver 204.178.72.30
nameserver 204.178.72.1
In case those nice folks failed to tell you about their nameservers,
here's what whois returns for attglobal.net:
   Domain servers in listed order:

   NS1.US.PRSERV.NET 165.87.194.244
   NS4.US.PRSERV.NET 165.87.201.244
   NS3.US.PRSERV.NET 165.87.201.243

You run a kernel without CONFIG_FB, or CONFIG_FB=m and something
is misconfigured. Remember that there is no VGA text mode on LC :)

The line means what it says. The daemon labelled "1" in your /etc/inittab
has died and been restarted 10 times in the last 60s, and init is going
to give it a rest for 5 minutes.

I suggest you go take a look! Sounds like a corrupted rc.1 script.

You need the FM for mount. FAT32 has no idea about users or
permissions, so you have to set them when you mount the volume. Look
at the man page about uid=, gid=, and umask= for FAT.

Err, but that's not an equation above. An equation has a precise
meaning: two terms, separated by an equals sign (usually representing a
symmetric, reflexive, transitive relation). So whereas you can indeed
use an equal sign to represent things other than "identity" (which is
what I think you mean, because "equality represents equality" is a
tautology), that fact doesn't apply, since there is no equals sign, or
any other sign that can be construed as representing a reflexive,
symmetric, transitive relation.

Goodbye, loon. (and how do you know that there are an infinite number
of concepts?).

Yes, you need to worry about the size of your first partition. More to the
point, LILO can't handle booting from a partition that includes or starts
beyond cylinder 1024 (this is a documented limitation of the BIOS). You'll
probably have to re-partition to get this to work.

We are running Redhat 6.0 in a web hosting environment.
For increased security when using PHP, we create a group
containing the uid of the webserver and a system user.

This way, we can chgrp the file to this new group and the web server
process can still open the file, but it is not accessible from any other
user's PHP scripts.

This has worked great so far, but we have just run into a problem.

After adding a new group (number 518), a PHP application which we
installed for a user failed to work. Looking at the PHP logs, it was
reporting that it could not read the config file which was chgrp'd to
this new group. I changed the number of the new group and this
application started working correctly.

I changed the group # on a working user's application to 518 and
the application ceased working, so I am pretty sure this is pointing
to a limit in the group #. Now, I can understand if this was a number
like 256 or 512 (ie #FFF or #FFFF), but 517 makes no sense!

Is there a way to increase this??

VNC is NOT nm30.exe compatible.
It has VNC under DOS that compatible with linux VNC.
VNC cannot send VDO and sound but send totally your screen.
To send sound you need speak freely under linux.
To make VDO cam to work under linux you need SANE.
If you make 3 softwares run together then I will blow nm30.exe away
BUT as I said it is NOT nm30.exe compatible.
