The RedHat kernel distribution contains later RAID patches than the stock
kernel distribution, which explains why you're running into this
problem. Either use the RedHat kernel or obtain the latest RAID patches
for 2.2.16 (assuming they exist) and patch it yourself.

Hope this helps,

Mike.

Get Krabber. It uses cdparanoia, cdrecord, lame, bladeenc, gogo, mp3enc,

It's a freeware from Germany.

Subject: Serial port printer - flashing light on LaserWriter

What is the best way to permanently setup the serial port for an Apple
LaserWriter Pro 600 on a Linux system?

I'm using CUPS 1.1 for my print environment. I can print, but the
Ready/In_Use light continues to flash endlessly. This also prevents me
from sending jobs from my Windoze PC on the parallel port. Strangely,
if I send a Linux job, and then inspect the port using stty, the
printer light stops flashing and I can again send jobs from the
parallel port (whatever's causing the flashing doesn't prevent jobs
from RedHat 6.2). But another job from Linux results in flashing
again.

According to Apple, this LW will auto-switch from all three ports
(LocalTalk, Parallel, and serial)

A CUPS author suggested I edit the PPD file, but I don't agree -- the
last page of the job is printed, unlike where an EOF is needed when
the last page never doesn't eject.

Here's the output from stty (below). I'm not sure if I should try
CTS/RTS over XON/XOFF (the print docs don't list CTS/RTS, instead they
list ETX/ACK -- is that the same?).

Should I be attacking this at the PPD vs the serial port config?

Also, I would be using netatalk instead, except that I can't see the
printer through my LocalTalk bridge; and I definitly had netatalk
setup correctly -- I could see my Mac and it's shared printer, so I
beleive it was a problem with zones or phase1 vs phase2, ... (?)

Anyway, here's what happens. Any clues?

Thanx

        (Ready/In_Use stops flashing)
(can send a job from Windoze)

(send a single job from Windozes or Linux)

        (Ready/In_Use light remains flashing again)

...Repeat process... (sometimes -- other times I can't get the
flashing to stop at all until some timeout occurs, the jobs spill out,
and then I can halt the flashing with the stty command)

I found the answer. I use the linux driver for winradio
(www.linradio.com) and pump it into my sb pro 16, yarec to record (sox rec
doesnt have a timer function), sox to convert to DAT, then some perl to
parse the headers a bit, then gnuplot to throw up a graph. It works well.
I also found the wplot function in the wavetools package, but its not
sensitive enough for the signals I'm receiving (its darn fast though!).
You can see how it all came together to record a solar flare today at

Actually, I once had a similar problem - but with the original ssh.
A kill -HUP would give the same error messages (bind .... port already
in use ... etc.)
I tried to kill every possible ssh(d) and whatnot.
I decided that some kernel internals were screwed and rebooted.

I also do hate to reboot a linux box. And usually I can restart
sshd on that same machine without problems.

I *don't* think you can get an accurate figure from Squids. Squids is a
caching proxy, therefore , pages are send out from cache, and not the
actual hit on the httpd.

You *can* actually shut down your back end server if you have a large
enough cache in Squids, and all of the pages have been requested before,
and you haven't killed the cache. Pages will still be available for
access as long as the pages stayed in the cache alive.

There're several web logging utilities available. Check out freshmeat
for a run down, and see what you like.

All:
I just setup a new Redhat Linux 6.1 box, and I've been trying to run
netcfg so I can get it hooked up to my ISP. But I get an error
message. When I run netcfg I get about 13 lines of error desc, the
first 12 of which state line numbers in different files. The last one
says:
"TclError: no dsiplay name and no $DISPLAY environment variable"

I saw a reference on the redhat site to the DISPLAY variable. As
recommended I set it to (substituting my machine's name where it
says myhost):
DISPLAY=myhost:0.0

But I still get the error message when I run netcfg. What am I
doing wrong? Please advise.

use a linux installation that installs on to a dos (fat 12/16/32) partition.

such as caldera and mabey even redhat 6.2 plus possibly other distros.

check there docs on how to achieve this.

look at linux.org for distributions that may support this.

I am working on putting together a list of Linux friendly xDSL ISPs. By
'friendly', I mean not openly hostile. No hassles or hoop jumping during
pre-install or installation. Ethernet modem _must_ be an option. Tech
support should at least assist with line and modem problems, and not
come on with 'well we don't support Linux, so sorry'. Also would be
interested to know:

Static IP available?
PPPoX?
Server policy?
Timeouts or session limits (intentional ;)?
Bandwidth usage metered per month?
LAN/NAT supported?
Self install available?

And any other significant details or comments. If this is a local or regional
ISP, coverage area would be good to know also. If not obvious, a URL is good
too.

Feel free to email me at the Bellsouth address.

Be sure you have plenty of space on your hard disk (you
didn't say how big it is). After defragmenting, I tried
installing Linux along
with Win95 and it left Win95 with so little space it
would load, but not really run. This was on a 1-gig HD, which
of course is smallish, but be careful.

Make sure you are running X Windows (obviously!) and if you 'su' to
root, don't do it as 'su -' because that doesn't transfer the DISPLAY
setting. You can also do 'xhost myhost' if that fails.

While I may not know the answer, I highly doubt that is it. A more
appropriate answer could have gone something along the lines of;

Do you have an alternate kernel you could try booting from?
Do you have a rescue disk? I know that the (bootable) SuSE CDROMs come
with a rescue system boot option, which can be used to e2fsck your
partitions individually, and also come with a "Boot Installed System"
option which one could use to boot long enough to compile a new kernel
(in the event that the existing kernel was somehow damaged).

suppress it, hunh?
