Subject: Gnome Panel Crash in RH 6.2

I have a really annoying crash of the gnome control panel. THis does
not take the X-Server down but will hang some of the apps I may have
running (example is running BlueJ java IDE which was started through the
GNOME menu). I usually have the start panel set to auto hide and when
it crashes it remains visible and I can kill the panel by right clicking
and choosing annihilate. So far looking through the processes (ps -ef)
I have not identified the process which is crashing so I can restart it.
Any ideas on where I should look? Thanks Ray

How to gauge Linux stability?
Of course we know that Linux can run for weeks without reboot,... but
exactly what does that mean?
If I log onto one of the user accounts, and run for a week, then log out
and log onto another acconut, e.g., root, and run for another week, is
that considered two consecutive weeks, or is that two sessions of one
week each?

It means what it says. Week = week. "without reboot" = "without
reboot".

No, it's two breakfasts of banana and rye. What do you THINK?
Time is time. If you want to multiply time by the number of people
who came into the room while you were counting, that's your business.
Other people will just laugh.
If, OTOH, you are thinking of integrating time elapsed against the
number of users or processes running, or by the % cpu use, then those
would yield sensible measures. Just not "time". They would be loadhours
and cpuhours respectively.

I can not configure my qmail server. I can log to it if I telnet
127.0.0.1 25 , but when I telnet using IP address (ex. telnet

In Host.allow I write down my IP, what I should configure to get my SMTP

I tried to download the new version of the most excellent newsreader Pan.
However it said I needed GTK+ version 1.2.8-7, which I downloaded. When I
try to run this RPM in KPackage it says that only major version numbers
<=3 are supported by this version of KPackage. This also applies to to
the Pan update rpm aswell. I have Mandrake 7.1 installed. Any help out
here.

Slight error, it should say "major version <=3 are supported by this
version of RPM", not KPackage.

Not to mention that there is no consistency in the way things are

I think the main reason why windows is 'easy' to use is that on
standalones, in effect, eveyone runs as root!
Linux maintains security regardless of the user or environment.

Linux is running whether you are logged in or not. Most servers have no
one logged in most of the time.
