Well, i see great future on a server-only linux GPL version, but as long
as there will not Force Feedback under Linux i'll never play a
linux-GPL.

        Hi,

Where can I find sources of the /usr/lib/libpci.a library?
AFAIK it isn't part of glibc.

Thanks,

Ok, sounds like I was reading more into the process then it deserved! I
can compile & install kernels in my sleep, but thought that there might
be more to it to jump to the next generation of kernel.

Gotta minor problem here I was hpoing someone could help me with. I have
a RH6.2 system running on a Gateway 2000 P200MMX system. The system is
configured with a Diamond Fireport 40 SCSI adapter, 1 4.5GB IBM SCSI
drive, 32 MB RAM, a 4MB knockoff vid card, and 2 3COM 3c509 Ethernet
cards. The system's been mine since last November, running like a charm.

Recently, however, it's been having this annoying little problem of
randomyl shutting off. At completely random times, the machine will power
off, without going through shutdown process. There is no information in
the logs to tell me when this happens. If I don't happen to be sitting
right there when it happens, I have to guesstimate the shutdown time based
on when the logs stop.

I've had it happen during startup, while I'm logged in, and while I'm not
home. I've come up with several possible scenarios:

1. Power problems in my apartment. POssibility, but unlikely - I have
several other pieces of equipment plugged into the same outlet, and they
have no trouble.

2. Problem with the power supply. Distinct possibility.

3. Problem with a daemon that causes shutdown. Doubtful, because the
machine SHOULDN'T power off then. If I do a 'shutdown -h now, when
shutdown is complete, it will shut itself off. However, in terms of a
system freeze or crash, I wouldn't think it would do so.

4. Problem with apmd(or other power management that causes the power
supply to cycle off. I don't know enough about apmd to make a valid guess
here.

5. SOme other random problem.

Has anyone seen this behavior before? Mainly, I'm looking to see if
anyone has heard of this problem occuring with RH6.2. If it's a hardware
problem, which I'm investigating, I'll take my q somewhere else. Has
anyone heard of this behavior before?

Hmmm, hope you don't mind me saying this Gordon, but IMO you're running
behind the times.

Linux and BeOS pee on Win98 as a desktop OS, but the problem is that's sort
of it. They're very powerfull and performant OS's, but don't get support
from major hardware/software developers, so there's a shortage of drivers
and well rounder applications for them. Linux is getting there though, if MS
isn't worried yet, they should be.

Filesystems have a reserve of about 5% that only root can write into.
Hence, for a 3G partition, there's about 150MB that is usable only by
root.

This amount is changeable with tune2fs.

How could I change, eg. from a 80x25 text display to a 80X43 to fit more
characters onto the screen? If I want to make this change affect all users,
which files do I edit? What about the other modes? Where could I find them?
I'm using RH6.1.

I really do not want to use a web interface for this.

I also installed Mandrake 7.1 on another system. It works fine on that
one. The difference is that in thes case I chose to start X at boot time
and on the other system (which usually runs headless) I didn't. This
might have something to do with it. Maybe the different runlevel...

Help!

I've just installed mirrordir on our HP-UX 10.20. I got the binary
archive from the HP-UX porting archive. Installation went without any
problems.

I have set up the .netrc file on my system and I can FTP to the system

think that side works fine.

My problem is that when I try and run "copydir" as below, I don't get a
connection the system just loops

./copydir -v --netrc /Universal.MIB ftp://serverfred/data/mirror

I use CTRL C to stop

Has anyone got this to work on HP-UX I am using version 0.10.45

Could try a UPS. It keep my machines up when we just lose power for a few
seconds. Very nice.

Possibley, but usually my problems with power supplies have been when
turning them on, not while it is running.

I can't think of anything that would just randomly shut a machine down...

I wouldn't think so. But you could do a ps aux | grep apmd, and see if it
is running. I wouldn't think this would be the case though.

I have had a similar problem before. It was the chip over heating. Try
looking at the fans on the chip. See if they are spinning of dust

You would be better off asking in one of the emacs forums, e.g.
comp.emacs or gnu.emacs.help... I have seen this question asked before
and I seem to recall that you can if you use xemacs but can not if you
use the current version of fsf emacs. I use the standard fsf emacs so I
can not tell you how to set-up xemacs to display color in the console.

Yes I had this exact same problem under SuSE 6.4 when I changed the default
inode size (thinking I would get better performance).
If all the inodes are used for a partition no matter what the size
you will always get "partition full" messages.

My solution was to revert the partition inodes size to the default(s) under SuSE

Not entirely when the set of wine APIs is already available.

Besides AIUI quite a lot of games software development is done across
platforms with shared libraries etc being used. Of course I have no
idea whether or not this is true of the game in question.
