Hello, This may be wrong news group for printer Questions.. -And i know
ziltch about printing.
---I am having trouble with the rpm package CUPS, I have installed it,
but all the print jobs are going to the cups spool directory, and the
printer is only taking jobs from the old spool dir.? (i think).
So, How do i get the cups/spool dir. contents to the printer?
I have RedHat 6.2 on an i686. and a HP deskjet.

Just from some random servers:
3:47pm up 139 days, 23:34, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
3:48pm up 115 days, 22:39, 1 user, load average: 0.07, 0.05, 0.02
3:49pm up 106 days, 21:33, 1 user, load average: 0.06, 0.07, 0.06
3:52pm up 175 days, 22:44, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
3:53pm up 175 days, 22:07, 1 user, load average: 0.04, 0.05, 0.00
Due to a relocation, I had to take some machines down, was a somewhat
odd feeling to type init 0, as I had looked at the uptime before and
it was well > 400 days.

Uptime isn't really that important (to me), but shows the ability Linux
has and gives you somehow

does yppasswd follow normal file locking conventions? meaning if there is
a *.lock file in the directory or in the /var/lock dir it will obey it? if
not is there any work-around for this? thank you for your time and if there
is a more appropiate ng then please let me know.

Can anybody point me in the right direction? I want to program some huge

GCC I have one from MIRACL that I want to add to GCC. I just don't know how.
Has anyone added a library to a compiler before?
Much appreciated.

Hi,
For some strange reason the problem now seems to be solved I still don't
know what exactly was the problem but now it works :)
Thanks to everyone who helped me.
One thing remains: I still can't telnet my local host. Is there something
wrong in /etc/services perhaps? The telnet lines look like this
[bv@tornado bv]# cat /etc/services | grep telnet
telnet 23/tcp
rtelnet 107/tcp #remote telnet
rtelnet 107/udp

This familiarity will pay off later when you decide to upgrade (grafix

what you can do is to do a " ps -ef | grep httpd", which should list out
the httpd process running. If you see that the process is post-fixed
with module names as SSL and other stuff. you can kill all the httpd
process, and then restart them with hand by typing "httpd" and then try
. if this works , fine but can be a security related issue. it is better
to properly configure the file. command as follows.
bash% killall httpd
bash% <path>/httpd

Ok, due to a misshipment I have available to me an internal DLT1 drive
from Dell. I want to put this in our Dell Poweredge 2400 streaming media
server (Real 7) running RedHat 6.2. According to the Redhat site DLT1
drives only work under RedHat 7, but due to some issues with 7 we'd
rather not upgrade. Also, Real doesn't recommend going to the 2.4 kernel
yet since it hasn't been tested.
So, finally to what I'm after. Has anyone here gotten a DLT1 drive to
work under RedHat 6.2 and if so how did you go about doing it? Thanks in
advance for the help.

For some reason the parallel port does not seem to work for me in
either the 2.4.0 or the 2.4.1 kernels. It did in the 2.2.18 kernel,
but does not seem to be doing so now ( possibly just some
configuration stuff that the system blew away ).
Right now I am in the 2.4.0 kernel.
I've checked /var/log/messages file
the only lp0 in there is usblp0 ( btw I have both a parallel printer
and a usb printer, they worked under 2.2.18 but the usb was flakey ),
but there is a parport.
In /proc/ioports parport0 appears.
I have no idea how to check irqs.
Any ideas?
One more question.
In my bios it gives me a choice of modes Normal,BiDir, ECP,EPP 1.9-17
ehich would be best forme to use at this time ( printer hp ljet II can
handle at lest bidir, but I think it can handle all modes)?
One thing I just noticed:
in /etc/modules.conf
preinstall plip modprobe parport_pc; echo 7 >/proc/parport/0/irq
but there is no /proc/parport directory, an important hint?

Your real problem is probably trying to run Squid on a system with 16MB of
RAM. Increase the RAM to 32MB or kill Squid.

Try "/dev/nst0"; no 'r'.
st = Scsi Tape, 0 = 1st device, prepended 'n' = non-rewinding
You may also have a symlink from tape-device to '/dev/tape'.

When configuring your kernel for compiling, in addition to enabling the
parallel port support in the parallel port section, did you also enable
parallel port printing support in the "character mode device" section?
Without both enabled, your LJetII becomes a large doorstop, regardless of
bios settings.
Cheers,
