Thanks for the pointers to sc-7.X in Slackware and Debian. Both
of these compile fine on my Mandrake 7.02 system. Both of these
have the same trouble on my system as the old Redhat 5.1 binary
(which I built a couple years ago).
My trouble with sc is that the displayed cursor movement doesn't
work very well in the up/down directions. When actually moving
the cursor up or down one cell at a time, either with the arrow
keys or the j/k keys, the displayed cursor will appear to shift
left or right. The actual cursor position, as determined by sc's
top line, is correct, but the reverse video cursor doesn't follow
it.
Does anyone have any idea what the solution might be? Advise on
troubleshooting this would be very appreciated as well. If it
matters, rpm tells me that the libraries that sc is linked
against are:
ld-linux.so.2
libc.so.6
libm.so.6
libncurses.so.4
Thanks....

A carry over from the small disk era? I do, however, see the
benefits to fsck (especially here in South Florida!) yet with the
udma66 drives and mobo's my 13 gig drive checks in less than a
minute. My 6.4 gig udma33 takes longer!

The book "Maximum RPM" can be downloaded from here (free) plus there
is a lot of other info on RPM: its the definitive site.

Unfortunately, these are only the major version numbers.
For example, my libc.so.6 is actually libc-2.1.3, also known as
GLibc-2.1.3. And why is it telling you that it is linked with
libncurses 4; didn't you say before you were using 5? No, I guess
that was me... Can you try linking it with libncurses 5? The
one Slackware-7.1 has is "ncurses-5.0". Another thing to look into
is your termcap/terminfo databases.

I'm programming in tcltk and I have a problem with command fileevent .
I want to know what can I do to avoid a infinite loop.
I use fileevent command to read a line of a file but when I found the
final of a file I want to wait to read a new line when its is ready to
be read, but fileevent always is looking a new line.

(1) /dev/hdc would be an IDE (ATAPI) ZIP drive, the master device on your
secondary IDE channel. If that's what you have, that is the right device.
(2) Make sure you have a recent kernel. I know there was a problem
which caused this error in 2.2.6 and later; it was fixed in 2.2.11.
(There are work-arounds if you are stuck with an older kernel.)

You may have a hard disk or cdrom on the same channel or you forgot to
REMOVE the support for the ATAPI cdrom from the kernel.

You are having color dreams, the usual answer is :"We do not support Linux"
The solution I have found was to buy an Epson 660 printer which works very well
and the color cartridge are actually so much cheaper than the Cannon that the printer
pays itself just with the savings on the ink cartridges.

It sounds like a graphic install problem. Go in text mode install, read in the book,
you should
be able to type text or something of the sort. The easiest distribution installation I
found for
that problem was SuSE. On my son's computer there was no way I could install
graphically and I
even had to type in stuff in run and crash method until I got the right installation.
If you have
a similar problem there is no way you could install Linux with any distribution as
long as you
insist on a graphic install.
With SuSE you just put in the text install diskette and you got it made.

Security fixes are always promptly backported to Debian-stable: The version
on the net includes them. A simple 'apt-get update; apt-get upgrade' in a
cron job will keep you up to date. If that is too slow for you, you can
track proposed-updates at a slight risk of breakage.

log as root
rpm -e -vv plugger
rpm -e -vv netscape
rm -R -f ~/.netscape
rm -R -f /home/___your_user___/.netscape
reinstall both plugger
and netscape
It looks to me like by trying to get it to work you may have changed a few user
ownership
and messed things up. The easiest is just to reinstall netscape.
Don't forget to enter the mail. Make sure you have dns numbers in /etc/resolv

What distribution? What version? What happens when you try to
telnet in? Do you get connection refused? Connection closed by
foreign host? No response?
Depending on the distribution (and/or installation method), you
may not have the ftp daemon installed.

Mike, do I need two nic's to run squid?
I tried adding the line "http_access allow all", then it asked for a group
name so I used root (I did not know what else to do). It runs but when I go to
my wife's winbox netscape cannot access the net. I have all the proxy settings
set up right bec when I run win98 on my comp and use a win proxy server my
wifes box can access the net w/ netscape.
I don't know anything about the firewall that is running. It must have came w/
my RH 6.1. I see it being shutdown when I shutdown but I don't how to mess with
it. Maybe it is stopping squid from working?
