To find out what's running them , you could try:
ps fax
this will give you a 'tree view' thing, showing you what process
started what, all the way up to init, kswapd and the others.
This will at least tell you what is starting those terminals.

Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2000 13:58:37 GMT
Hello there,
I read an article "X must die." in www.linux.com.
Is there X-Window alternative?
Cause KDE or GNOME environment is not better than compared with M$
Windows 9x. They are the clones of M$ Windows 9x. At least Pentium II
with 128M ram manages KDE application smoothly in my experience. I feel
Linux in GUI environment seems to go backwards. For example, when I do
'startx', run Netscape then I suddenly return 1995 before using Windows
95.
Using Linux in text mode is very nice. I like it. Its Kernel is compact,
fast, provides manys ways of doing a job (Network, Local, Cluster.)
under low cost. :)
Is there X-Window alternative?

It also seems that the queue blocks when there is a 0 byte job.

Subject: [HELP]: Driver/Module Compilation Using GNU Automake/Autoconf
Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2000 10:16:15 -0400
Hi,
Does anyone know how to write the GNU automake (Makefile.am) script to just
compile a source code (C programs) as a linux driver/module? Here is the
scenario:
I have created several files, i.e. file1.c, file2.c, file.h. These files
when
et compiled will produce a Linux driver for some I/O devices. So far, I have
the configure.in made from issuing the "autoscan". I also have created the
Makefile.am which consists of the following lines:
bin_PROGRAMS = file
file_SOURCES = file1.c file2.c file.h
I also have executed "aclocal; automake; autoconf" to generate the
configuration files, Makefile.in, and Makefile. When I typed "make", it
compiled file1.c, file2.c, and created the "file" program. What I want is to
create a driver/module "file.o" for Linux kernel. Does anyone have any idea
what I should include in the Makefile.am to tell the GNU automake and
autoconf
just to compile and create a driver/module for Linux kernel?

Yeah, tough. Sorry to say I think you have a hardware conflict, especially
if you tried installing 4 different distributions and they stop at the same
spot. Personally I think it might be a problem with the CD-RW. Can you
disable it in bios then until you load Linux? My second choice is the
cable modem.

Hi,
I don't know word perfect, but for Star Office (I'm using 5.1a) it's not
possible to change the lpr command from inside SO, so you can't enter
the fax number this way. I use the builtin fax printer of SO. You can
install it via the spadmin command (you have to be root for this).
spadmin is located in the SO bin directory, so it may not be in your
$PATH.
In spadmin create a new printer "Generic printer", rename it to "Fax
printer" and connect it to the fax_queue. Then configure the fax command
string. You can use the efax send command here, but it should be
possible to use your lpr command like "lpr -P fax -J (PHONE) (TMP)".
(PHONE) is the placeholder for the fax number, (TMP) for the fax file.
You may try the pipe option; remove the "(TMP)" in this case.
To send a fax from SO, choose "Fax printer" and start printing. A small
window pops up and asks for the fax number. Works nice for me (I'm
running HylaFAX BTW).

You may wish to check out ReiserFS. ATM, it's the most mature
journaling filesystem for Linux, and it has some nice speed benefits if
you're working with tons of files. Also, no more time-consuming fscks
since the journal keeps track of filesystem integrity... rebuilding a
trashed partition should take 1 minute instead of 10.

Figure out what in /usr is using up the most space -- then use your 2 gig
partition for that. ie -- if /usr/share is eating up most of the space in
/usr, mount the 2gig partition on /usr/share (after moving all your data

Thanks Andrew for the link to the "56k=V.unreliable" site, now I know a

I don't think that the problem is with ISP or modem incompatibility. The
modem performs well on a Windows98 environment. I get a nice download
rate(or throughput) et it never stalls and this dialing the same ISP as I
would with Linux. I'm sure that my problem has something to do with my linux
