Well, Linux depends on BIOS routines for memory recognition.
There are three variants of these in use :
int 15h, ah=088h is the old call, , which is available in all BIOSses,
but limited to 64M ( 16 bit return value) .
This is also used as fallback , if the other calls doesn't seen to work.
int 15 ax=0e801h is used by Kernel-2.2 for recognition of more than 64M
But now more and more modern BIOSses tend to provide only int 15h,
ax=0e820h,
, which is used by Windows. This isn't supported by the 2.2 kernel ( 2.4
will support it) .
But you can allwaqys overide the value that is given by memory
recognition routines with the mem= kernel parameter.

If you read the CHANGES file on kernelnote.org you will find it
recommends upgrading to pppd ver 2.4.0b1. I certainly have had
no trouble.

Errr, repartition your hard drive, format and install windows.
You DO have a DOS boot disk with CDROM drivers?!? If not e-mail me and I
can send you a 1.44 Mb disk image that boots Win95 DOS mode with a generic
CDROM driver and has fdisk etc......

I got this error a little while ago doing exactly the same thing on a RH6.1
box. I thought the error was in reference to version of RPM, not sendmail.
I have since done a rom -Uvh rpm.latest.i686.rpm (I build my own from the
src.rpm). Then tried sendmail again - voila! Try http://rufus.w3.org for
the latest RPM's et al.
Of course, if this is a different error.......can't help :-(

I tried that and did get a list of mails at Pac Bell. I am
therefore assuming that Netscape, or some other part of my system
is at fault. Before I remove Netscape, do you know of any place
else on my system where information about my connection to Pac
Bell, such as DNS numbers and/or name/password information should
exist?
Thanks for your help.

Dear oh dear. Mandrake must definitely be on its last legs. First they list
their man version (man -v) as 1.5f when it is really 1.5g, and now they have a
misprint, putting in "test" rather than "text". Definitely a complete
disaster-- the whole operating system no longer works-- noone can do
anything, no program runs. The Horror, The Horror.
And oh dear, it is worse than that. That Mandrake did not write "file"
and uses the same source as does Slackware is irrelevant. Mandrake has managed to
infect
Ian Darwin, the author of "file", so that the version 3.30 (the one
included in Mandrake) on the file page ftp.astron.com/pub/file also contains
the same error. I can see it now. Soon even Slackware will be infected,
and the world will end.

Red Hat is making a transition to RPM 4.0 very soon so some of the
packages out there were built to this new format which is not backward
compatible unless you get the latest and greatest RPM 3.0.5 which add
in the compatibility. So either use the proper sendmail RPM, update to
RPM 3.0.5 or recompile sendmail manually.

I do not have plugger on my system or on the free CD that my
Mandrake Linux came on. What is plugger, where can I get it, and
why do I need it?
>Don't forget to enter the mail. Make sure you have dns numbers

I don't have an /etc/resolv. I do have an /etc/resolv.conf, which
I presume to be the same file under a slightly different name.
The only information it contains is a line with my system's name
in it. How should the DNS be specified in this file? Does the
file need any other information, such as my login or password, or
the name of my mail server at Pac Bell?
Also, I don't know what you mean by "Don't forget to enter the
mail."
Thanks in advance for you hwlp.

The 'sleep' command works excellent!!! Far superior to 'at'. Thanks very
much.
However, I am still curious to know why the 'at' command, when run from
rc.local, will launch a job for a future time, and when that time arrives
the job just sits there (forever) and does nothing!
