Does anyone know if Macromedia has any such plans?

Dreamweaver is an incredibly good program, but
I think it only runs on Windows and Mac at the
moment.

I'm a new user for Linux. Currently, I have a problem with to view the
wedsite. It's sound strange because my system can detect my modem but when I
use Netscape to search the particular website then it will pop up a message
like "Unable to locate the server nam(eg:http://www.hotmail.com) comand
check it and try again. Somemore like hosts are unknown and some of the
hosts unreachable.

And I need to be online ASAP. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hope you made a boot disk, 'cuz you're gonna need it. Boot off your floppy
and look at /etc/lilo.conf.

When LILO hangs at LI, that means that it lost the secondary boot loader,
which should be /boot/chain.b, or maybe /boot/boot.b - I don't know which RH
uses. This secondary boot loader is what reads and uncompresses the kernel.
It should be listed in the first section of /etc/lilo.conf and say something
like install = /boot/boot.b. If it doesn't, that's why LILO can't find the
secondary loader.

If it does have the install line, then about the only thing you can do is
make a separate boot partition - about 10 MB is plenty - and copy everything
in /boot over to it. Then edit /etc/lilo.conf to reflect the new location of
the boot image and type "lilo" at a command line. You should get some sort
of a message reflecting the changes you made. Then try rebooting off your
hard drive, and it should work. Sometimes your problem happens with an older
BIOS, so this could be a sign you need to upgrade.

Good luck.

tty1 is perfectly normal, that is just the last console you logged onto,
has nothing to do with the serial devices ttySx. You're looking for a
file called /var/log/messages or try typing the command 'dmesg' at the
console prompt.

If you can't get into your BIOS I would say your machine is hosed. I do
remember something about some compaq models that stored part their BIOS
on the HD, something like BM or PM might hose them. When you boot the
machine you should get a message telling you what key sequence to press
to enter setup ( BIOS ) , many use the delete key of F2

I have not used WinLinux, but when I had this problem it meant the file
/etc/resolv.conf did not contain my ISP's DNS server numbers. If you do
not know how to edit files by hand, first try to find where in WinLinux
those numbers should have been entered in the graphic user interface, and
be sure to put them in.

Hi all
I'm trying to configure powerd 2.0 to work with my sola 520 ups. As far as I
can tell the sola 520 is a best power ups of some kind.
I can get the best checkups advanced ups monitoring software working under
linux. But I want to use powerd 2.0 so I can use its network notification
feature to tell my other linux machine about power status.

Has anyone got a working powerd.conf that works with their best or sola ups?

Thanks for the clue on the /var/log/messages. That is what I typed and got
back a "permission denied" <8-<.. As for the BIOS mess.. I have never NOT
been able to get in.. on any computer that I have owned or any that I have
fixed for other folks. I think that it is boot magic that is keeping the
option to enter BIOS out of the picture. The machine wakes up and goes out
to feel the peripherals takes count and then jumps directly to the boot
option. I have tried F2 and DEL. I have also tried some others that I have
used in the past to get into BIOS. The not so funny thing here is that I
have never had to go into BIOS on this machine. I am thinking about
uninstalling BM and see if I can get to BIOS after that. I tend to think
that your are right about a conflict at the BIOS level. IF that is the case.
I might just build up another machine for Linux and the net and just use
this one for writing ( I write fiction and Star Office is the nuts for a
writer) As a point of interest, Rockwell-Collins has changed to Star Office
for all of it's writing of tech manuals. I don't know if you have seen the
data that says Word Perfect looses config after about 150 pages of data and
MS Word looses them at about 200+ pages. That is in one document. I could
save smaller units , like a chapter at a time, but, that is not what I want
to do and besides I really, really dislike using MS stuff. That platform
just keeps eating my lunch and takes all day to do it.
Okay, Bob, I am back into Linux and will try your latest advice.. dmesg. I
will give you a report.
Thanks a lot for the help.

May be that you're just not pointing to a valid DNS server. Look at
/etc/resolv.con (that's where it is on my system, at any rate). What you
see there should match the DNS server that your ISP makes available (or any
other valid nameserver).

Don't sweat the language - your english is MUCH better than my mexican! For
your first shot at Linux, I STRONGLY recommend getting a distribution on
CD-ROM, preferably one with a good intro book attached. Good luck!

I'm currently mounting some filesystems automatically using samba.
I've specified the username/password in /etc/fstab.
As this is obviously not such a good idea, is there another way to do it, so
that they are automatically mounted?

Thanks,

The book is a really good idea, but if you really can't aford it, go to
www.linuxmall.com (or www.cheapbytes.com), where you can get Linux CDs for
under $2 US.

You're off by an order of magnitude or two. Though the typical daily
vocabulary is less than 10k words.

Of course, most are stolen from other languages, which is the great
power of English.

The way English works is certainly ugly, with irregularites and
bastardizations galore.... but, then, it also works. The same things
that make English ugly from a linguistic point of view are what make it
so flexible that it can adapt to the modern 'global' world.

I'll agree with that.

Much like English, the good old command prompt may (from a strict "user
interface" perspective) look as bizarre as English... but there's also
nothing that works as well when you need flexibility.

Go back to KPPP and edit your ISP set up.
Enter the DNS entries (primary and secondary DNS) from your ISP.
If you don't know the DNS entries call your ISP for them.
That should solve your problem.
