I'm not sure why what you are trying won't work, but I suggest
making your three primary partitions hdb1, hdb2, and hdb3. Then
make hdb4 your extended partitions and put hda5 and hda6 in it.
That is certainly the way I've always done it and the way I've
always seen it done. It is possible that there is some sort of
requirement that you do it that way.

I thought they now have an rpm file for realplayer 7. Check their web
site again.
But at one point I downloaded that file, and used it to install
the program. There may have been some documentation on the
web site, but I think all I did was execute the program.

When I run "ps h pid" it always return 0, it does matter if the pid
exist or not. What the problem it is. How it should be solved.
Where to look for solution?

If you only plan to network two boxes, then you can do it
easily. Just get two *cheap* 10BaseT ethernet cards. Read
/usr/doc/LinuxHOWTOs/Ethernet-HOWTO for a list of different
cards that work with Linux. Don't pay extra for a 10/100
card, it's a waste of money for a home network. You will need
a crossover cat 5 cable to connect without a hub. Go to a
networking expert for this, many bozos in computer stores
don't know the difference.
Install your ethernet cards and connect the cable. uncomment
the line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules that applies to your card.
Enter the commands in that line from the keyboard and you
should get a message confirming that the ethernet card was
found.
Now, if you are using Slackware, (and you *should*) , run the
netconfig command and answer the questions. Give ip numbers
starting at 192.168.0.1 and masks of 255.255.255.0. Once
netconfig is done, you are ready to network.
Use the ping command to see if you have a connection, ie, if
you are on machine 192.168.0.1, enter:
ping 192.168.0.2
you will get a series of messages telling you the round trip
time.
Read up on telnet, ftp, NFS, X, etc. Happy Networking.

0. Recompile your kernel, making sure to include framebuffer support.
It's under Console Drivers->Support for framebuffer devices->VESA VGA
framebuffer support.
1. Boot this new kernel, and put "vga=771" in the LILO: bootprompt line.
You can edit /etc/lilo.conf to put that line in with the new kernel
image (vga=771 in the image= section for the new kernel)
That will give you about 100x37, plus a bootup penguin logo, and it will
most likely work around that graphics bug. vga=773 will give you more
resolution, but the font gets small and hard to read there.
The SVGATextMode stuff doesn't work very well and seems to be
unmaintained... I don't suggest using it. If you want the most
flexibility possible, of course, use X. xterms can be dynamically
resized and you can have lots of them on the screen at once, which can
actually be nicer than "screen". Plus, there's that GUI thing... try as
you might, it's difficult to use GIMP on the console.

Hi there,
I am currently setting up a RedHat 6.2 as a server which serves as both a
firewall and a RAS(Remote Access Server). Is it possible for Linux server to
act like a RAS server(similar to NT concept) if i do not have a ISP but
purely to a modem connecting to a PSTN line thus allowing users with other
OS(Win98 or NT platform) to dial into the Linux server. If possible can
someone tell me the procedure or steps in configuring my Linux server as a
RAS. Thanks!

it always gets set up automatically under SuSE and Mandrake. Haven't tried

Hi,
thanks for your help.
I have already Solaris 7 and Linux running on the same system.
I prefer to use Linux, because it runs significantly faster on my
old mashine.
Lxrun only runs under Solaris for x86. I'm using a old Sparcstation 10
mashine.
The only programs I'm missing under Linux are Java studio und Java
Workshop. To run these programs under Linux I wanted to use solemul, wich
is delivered with
red hat 6.1.
Unfortunately the needed kernel module seems to be missing. It must be a
module called solaris.
Does someone know where to find it ?
Greetings,
Daniel

Do you have a SCSI harddrive? you may need to use the initrd feature of
LILO:
image = /boot/vmlinuz
label = linux
root = /dev/sda7
initrd = /boot/initrd
In the BIOS, did you set an option like boot from SCSI drive first (or
swap IDE/SCSI, etc)? If so, you must tell that to LILO as well:
disk = /dev/sda
bios = 0x80
disk = /dev/hda
bios = 0x81
Alternative: use loadlin, my personal favourite as LILO is
so intuitive to use....>-)
loadlin vmlinuz initrd=initrd root=/dev/hda7 ro
