Well, then your display is fine. What happens after the COMPAQ logo?
In any case, check your BIOS settings. Make sure your floppy, HDD, CD,
and boot settings are correct. There should also be a setting that
toggles the display of boot information. Make sure its on. When you
restart, try and read the boot information as it scrolls by on the
screen and see if there are any error messages. If you have problems
finding any of this stuff, refer to your manual.
I think you need to press <F2> during boot to get into a COMPAQ BIOS.

When you start your PPP connection, the hostname of your machine is
getting switched to something like "12.13.145.178-ppp.isp.blah". This
makes X all confused, because X uses the hostname of your machine (among
other things) to determine whether or not a client program like xsky can
connect to the X server. (Had a similar problem when hot-plugging a
PCMCIA card into my laptop and connecting to a LAN...)
You can most likely fix this by unchecking the "Auto-COnfigure hostname
from this IP" option in kppp. If that doesn't work for some reason, you
can try doing "xhost +" from a command-line. That isn't really
reccommended for security reasons, though.

What he said.
modprobe scsi_mod (may be unneccessary if SCSI support is built in)
modprobe sg
*THAT* information you posted above is the reason I made about 4
references to "cdrecord -scanbus" in my original post. The info that
command gives is almost always essential to get cdrecord working right.

Hi,
My swapfile is not hidden. I create the swap file in /tmp. I think the
inode structure was refreshed during the periodic cleanup operation of
/tmp.
When I run "swapon -s", I get
wkfung@maemb3:/tmp>swapon -s
swapon: /proc/swaps: No such file or directory
wkfung@maemb3:/tmp>su root
Password:
root@maemb3:/tmp>swapon -s
swapon: /proc/swaps: No such file or directory
root@maemb3:/tmp>
: The file should still be where you left it... I assume you did something
: like this:
: # dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1024 count=65536 (64M swap)
: # sync
: # mkswap /swapfile
: # swapon /swapfile
: ...so the file should just be in /swapfile and you should be able to
: just rm it. If you called the swapfile something like "/.swapfile" then
: it naturally won't show up in a normal ls command ("ls -a" will show all
: files) What does "swapon -s" show?

Very similar, just saving the sed invocation (let the shell do

for n in *; do mv "$n" ${n%% *}; done

Hi all,
I would like to be able to write a label to a tape so that I know if the
right tape is in the drive with out having to use tar to display all the
files on the tape. I was hoping that I could just echo a label to the device
but it doesn't seem to work. It doesn't report any errors but cat will not
get the label back. Here is what i tried
#Write label
echo "Label" > /dev/nst0
mt -f /dev/nst0 weof
#now you can do backup
#Read label
mt -f /dev/st0 rewind
cat /dev/nst0
Neither return errors cat just doesn't display anything at all.

Hello Jean-David,
Thanks a lot for your reply. The problem is not, however, that the
monitor clicks off
the power and flicks off for a moment, that's ok when the X-Server is
turned off, but
I cannot read the screen since everything is flickering and flying
around on
the monitor. I always turn it off immediately and shut down my machine
as fast
as I can. AND: It doesn't happen every time.
So, any more clues?
Thanks a lot,
Marc.

Redhat;s version does not run on Mandrake for some reason ( the title bar buttons or
any mouse clicks on them do not work)
]Can't help you there, but check http://freshmeat.net/ for "pager" and
]see if someone's ported it. Any application can run under KDE if the
]proper libraries are present; the old fvwm pager may work if you just
]start it up using the Alt-F2 command line or ~/Desktop/Autostart ....
Not sure if "pager " is the right term. Anyway freshmeat was of no help.

This log tells you exactly what is wrong, your XF86Config file isn't
correct.
Run eg. xf86config to correct the errors.
