You asked it about mysql (lower case letters)
in the first query, and MySQL (u/lc) in the
second.
It's case sensitive. Looks like the correct
form is mysql, lower case only.

Don't be so defensive. I was merely pointing out the fact that .deb and
.tgz's as well as .tar.gz are no rpms.
His question whether or not all Linux-flavors understand rpm's in
combination to your answer might have led him to believe that they were.
That's all.

P.S. I don't think I understand your prosecution-lawyer comparison in

Under Mandrake 7.1, one only has to install the kernel-linus rpm file
to
get a kernel without Mandrake's patches. Easier than re-compiling the
kernel.

If you want to disable it for all directories, take out "Indexes" from
the Options directive in httpd.conf.

Subject: Re: Your RedHat 7.0 impressions?

I did install it at school on an 80 gig raid file server, and I was amply
impressed. Everything went smoothly from one end to another. I didn't have to
do one thing.
At home, where I have a simple dual boot system it sucked. I've been using
RedHat ever since I first installed Linux at home, a good couple of years ago,
and never tried anything else. I'm a RedHat guy. I'm thinking now maybe it's
time to move to SuSE.
The first few installation attempts crushed with a dump which I was supposed to
send to bugzilla. How do you send it to bugzilla if you haven't installed yet?
Someone in the newsgroups (God bless him!) said that it's already been reported
and that it was happens only if you make a mount point for the Win98 partition
during install. Taking his advice, I left the Win98 partition unmounted and all
went well. It picked up the correct video card, and configured the Xserver
automatically, which was good.
I've never used gnome before, because it is under construction and I don't
think it's very stable, but since RH made it
the default manger, I thought I'd give it a try. Looks sharp, and highly
configurable, but...
I was forced to use rp3 to dial (no ppp0 interface in netcfg nor in linuxconf),
which was trivial to configure, but I couldn't get it to allow other users to
start the connection for the life of me (yes, I did check the "allow other
users button"). Moreover, to my surprise, I saw the password I had chosen for
the connection (as root) in plain text in /etc/wvdial.config. Plus, rp3 does
not display the IP address, which I think may be useful sometime. (I know, as
root you can see it with ifconfig). So I went back to my all time favourite,
XISP, and I'm back online, as normal user.
Now, I've added a few programs to the panel bar. One of them is rxvt. Initially
I specified rxvt -bg darkblue, and later I changed my mind, so I went to
preferences and changed darkblue to black. Restart, and guess what? Darkblue is
back!
I don't know what more to do to change rxvt from blue to black. (I did click
the Apply and OK buttons).
Although it takes a significant amount of memory, I'd be willing to use gnome,
because it looks nice, and it's easy to configure (supposedly). If I could only
configure it.
The good parts: RH7.0 comes ready for kernel 2.4.0. (Haven't tried it though).
Also, it comes with XFree86-4.0.1, which works beautifully.
So RH7.0 didn't work quite out of the box for me, but it does have a few good
features. If you have the time and patience to make it look and work as you
want it to, then you can give it a try.

Hi
When you start up make xconfig, there are settings already in it, are these
taken from the last kernel make ?.
Or are they default settings coded into it ?.

Well - I have a complaint about RH7.0 - and have addressed it to RH with no
response, despite the fact we purchased over 50 copies of their 6.2 pro
edition (at $180 a pop)...
I am a one man army when it comes to Linux where I work... we are a Windows
shop all the way... after begging, screaming, and kicking, I got them to
allocate me a Dell PowerEdge 6300, 1 gig Ram, 80 gigs RAID5 space... one
hell of a machine...
Aside from their PERC2/RAID drivers not working, and me having to fish for a
solution, we got it running... runs well! So well in fact, the upper
management is now looking at using Linux on a live database platform. So,
ofcourse, they hand me a database to implement on Linux...
It's 8 gigs in size..... I figure.. no problem! Well, much to my dismay,
ext2 only can handle 2 gig file sizes on 32 bit architecture.. NT and win2k
dont have this issue, and the MCSE's are having a hay day with it...
I KNOW the linux community wouldnt leave a flaw like that in the OS, so i
begin searching for a solution, I find LFS patches.... to find out they have
a max size of 4 gigs!!! GEEEEEEZE! I got an email the other day mentioning
ResierFS and ext3fs, and they can handle terrabyte sized files.... I cant
find either, and wouldn't know how to implement it anyhow if it is as
difficult as the LFS patches..... and upgrading to a 64 bit platform is NOT
an option considering they just put $40,000 in this Dell PowerEdge....
RedHat doesn't have any outline or any idea of implementing an FS that can
handle files that size..
This is the new millenium - 2 gigs isnt gonna hack it, nor will 4 gigs on
hospital systems. If Redhat wants to play with the big boys they need to do
something.... as the person in charge of Linux distro's for our branch of
the federal government, which ever platform comes out with Large File
support first will be where we put our dollars...
Thats what I think of RH7.0 -- I preached, and preached on how great it is,
and how RH supports their users, then I was used as a gigantic toilet, and
was shit on by them.

Don't have one :-( But digging through various cron-things ultimately led

Wow... took them long enough, I have been using this for a few months....
I have to disagree with their review... first and foremost, the thing uses
WINE.... its unreliable, and despite the fact it has nice features, its
identical to the windows version, without the reliability (me saying windows
is reliable NEVER happens i hate windows)... but with WP2000 you are taking
something that has the reliability of windows, then porting it to a windows
emulator that is less reliable than windows... and speed, this thing is
SLOOOOOOOOOOW....
I have it crash hourly atleast.... I've went baack to StarOffice for the
time being.... if I wanted a port of a Windows app, I'd get WINE and MS
Office2000....
Applixware looks like it might be nice, it is Linux native... and WP8 was
linux native, but Corel got lazy with the office port, and all of their new
ports for that matter, and simple rely on WINE.... not my idea of a good
app.
If you're gonna do it, do it right.

According to http://www.scyld.com/software/lfs.html, the limit is > 4G,
though can't speak from personal experience and I don't see what the
limit is, though didn't dig deep. The Kernel Monte sounds interesting
though .... hadn't been aware of that.

Sorry for your problems. The LFS patch was bundled with RH6.2 kernel
src.rpms. It is commented out in the spec file IIRC. So if you don't
mind doing kernels from src.rpms (I do), then conceivably uncommenting a
few lines would get the patch in. I would imagine the same is true of
glibc.

I seem to remember reading the specs for 'Red Hat Server for Oracle'
stating that they patched the kernel to remove the 2 gig file limit if
I am not mistaken.
The actual limitation is not in the ext2 filesystem but rather in the
virtual filesystem which is used to implement this on the 32bit system
so ReiserFS and ext3fs would have the same problem until this is fixed
(as I have heard) it has been in the 2.4 kernel and glibc. I think in
the above mentioned product, Red Hat went ahead and did those changes
themselves instead of waiting for the 2.4 kernel.

A heavily patched 2.2.16 kernel, including the USB backport. This is listed
at
http://www.redhat.com/products/software/linux/rhl7_new_features.html
which is 2 obvious clicks from the main page.
If you're *really* curious about what they've done to this kernel version,
install rpm-3.0.5 and you can then install kernel-2.2.16-22.src.rpm and see
what patches are in /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES.

Red Hat's bug tracking system is public. You can peruse/search it at

CD audio is digital so if you have both analog and digital outputs on
your CDRom and CDRW then you need to have the cable going from your
