Sourceforge says to do this:

cvs -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/studio login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/studio co modulename

Developers are allowed to access via ssh, but I'm not a developer.
Sourceforge also says:

When prompted for a password for anonymous, simply press the Enter key.
The login command -- the first CVS command above -- returns this
to me:

(Logging in to [EMAIL PROTECTED])
CVS password:

Where I press enter and the system just hangs, e.g. doesn't do
anything more.

I did try :ext: but I got the message "cvs login: can only use pserver
method with `login' command"

As for my ssh, I suspect it's working OK, as I run X, ssh (for
logins) and scp routinely in both directions. But, ssh only
operates behind the firewall. I've never had to connect to
anything on the other side of the firewall with ssh.

Any more advice?

Thanks much....

Yes. I use it as firewall/nat box at home and at work.
It is a nice and lean system. Don't expect anything fluffy
like all-in-one config tool. However, their faq and manpages
are very good and if you understand how Unix work then you won't
be lost.

Yes, using the command:

/sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

Where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is the IP you want to assign to the eth0 device,
substitue eth1 if this is the SECOND eth device (i.e. second NIC), use
high numbers after the ethX: to add more IP's.

To make permanent add this command to the end of your
/etc/rc.d/rc.local. I think that linuxconf even allows you to assign
additional IP's as well under SERVER TASKS, IP ALIASES FOR VIRTUAL
HOSTS.

Greetings!

Trying to get this going under Mandrake Linux (and incidentally
also under OS/2).

The chip is on the mainboard -- I hate that! The board is a
BIOSTAR m7vkb. The chip is supposed to emulate a soundblaster.

I can get the soundblaster stuff (sb.o) to load without error but
not a tone from the chip. Anyone have any insights?

It works fine in Win98 of course.

Why not just create a boot disk on the control panel (-> Software) ?

Ran across the same problem. Corrected it both ways with mixed results.
Changing Windoze to cleartext works if you only have a few machines
that dont mind being placed in this mode. I had a few that just didnt
want to use cleartext. Tried turning on encryted passwd on Redhat 6.1
with mixed results. Was working and had to make some changes to the
users and it quit again. WSFTP did the job I needed (FTP Server) so
I discontinued the effort. If youf Win95/NT 3.51 works and the
Win98/NT 4.0 does not, it is not properly decoding the encryted
passwords

No. I do not want to trust them to keep my data safely so I can restore them in
case of error. I also wish to have control over my data even after they lose
interest in providing the service. I do not wish to be forced to accept
upgrades on their schedule instead of mine.

Just noticed that my RedHat 6.2 installation keeps setting my system
(bios) clock back by 10 hours each time I boot up.

I am normaly 10 hours ahead of UTC, so I must have screwed up during the
install.

How can this be corrected, the "timemachine" in 'control-panel' does not
work.

Not enough info but this sounds like normal behaviour.

A rootkit is a set of programs for breaking in to a system and
installing programs so you can break in again.

Here's my guess: in the query part of the man
pages, check out the information
selection option " -s, --state "

That's the only option I can find
with three possible choices in its
field: normal, not installed, or replaced.
It doesn't say they're represented by
0, 1, 2, but it doesn't say they aren't,
either.

Subject: RedHat 6&7 POP3 delay
Date: Sat, 14 Oct 2000 04:42:22 +0300

Somebody must be seen this..

We have:
    - RedHat 7.0 (the same with 6.0)
        - xinetd (inetd in 6.0)
        - imap (used only for POP3)

While userxx's mailbox /var/spool/mail/userxx is empty (0 bytes), POP3
client (Netscape)
runs very quick (immediately). Since there is something in that file
(e.g., only system message "DO NOT DELETE THIS MESSAGE"),
POP3 client stay for 2-3 seconds with "Host contacted: Sending login
information".
The same symptoms with pine working on server directly (POP3 cannot
disturb):
if /var/spool/mail/userxx is empty, pine open inbox very fast, if not -
waiting for ~2sec.
The problem described above does not affects root.

Where could be a solution for such delay?

Thanks in advance,
Arnis

Has a great article on doing this and I am doing it now. Have NT4 (SP7)
installed as the main system (I do some video editing when not playing Engineer
at a post production facility) and Red Hat 7.0 on the other half. The idea of
copying the bootsec.lin to the c:\ drive is great !

I too went the Mandrake route. It' no secret on the Mandrake news groups that
7.1 should be avoided at all costs. All of the messages I have seen on 7.1 are
bad. I couldn't get the ISO version from their own FTP to even recognize the
CD, after it booted from the thing. Now 7.0, that's a good install.

I gave in and saw the light on Red Hat however. I have it installed and am
writing from it now. I like it, even if it didn't install Kpackage (RPM GUI)
or a few other things I lliked about the Mandrake install. I can do those
myself. Amazingly, it did set up my Mitsumi CDR drive with NO intervention on
my part. Works fine now.

One of the things I miss from Mandrake is the ability to look at my DOS drive.
I'll have to figure out how to set that up as a device now but I'm still pretty
good to go.

If you are attempting Mandrake again, try 7.0 and wait for 7.2.

I had the same problem with my laptop. What I had to do was use either
"halt -p" or "poweroff" Both of these will cause the machine to
completely power itself off.

Tried to install Perl/Tk so I could look at this little solitaire game I
saw in The Perl Journal. I figured I should look at Perl and this might
be a good excuse. During install, I generated the messages:

"Cannot find X include files via /usr/X11R6/include"
"Cannot find X include files anywhere at ./myConfig line 312"
"Compilation failed in require at Makefile.PL line 17."

Sure enough -- the directory exists but there are no header files in it.
I looked at the distribution CD's (Mandrake) and checked out rpmfind and
can't find anything that looks appropriate. I'm not big on C so I
haven't needed the include files, but it looks like I need them now.
Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to get them from.

It's either that or give up looking at Perl and stick with python.

Thanks.

Linux Advisory Watch is a comprehensive newsletter that outlines the
security vulnerabilities that have been announced throughout the week.
It includes pointers to updated packages and descriptions of each
vulnerability.

This week, advisories were released for mod_rewrite, mod_php3, tmpwatch,
traceroute, boa, esound, usermode, gnorpm, openssh, apache, and cfengine.
The vendors include Caldera, Conectiva, Debian, FreeBSD, Immunix,
LinuxPPC, Mandrake, SuSE, and Trustix. It is critical that you update all
vulnerable packages to reduce the risk of being compromised.
