OK so I was executing it twice. When I typed the above it just would
wait two minutes before shutting down. Thanks for all the carification.

So you have, you stupid idiot. Several hundred lines of code. Totally
inexcusable for non-binary newsgroups. You'll need more than a

Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 20:43:35 GMT
Hello there:
I am trying to install an old program called chaos analyser, but the
installing script is very
old and doesn't seem to work with new distributions. Just in case anyone
knows a quick solution
or change to make it work (on mandrake 7.1) here is the installer (it
keeps saying that it can't
find the xview headers even though xview is installed) :
#!/bin/sh
#gcc -O4 -I/usr/include -L/usr/lib -R/usr/X11R6/lib "$1".c -o "$1"
-lxview -lolgx -lX11 -lm gcc -I/usr/include -L/usr/lib "$1".c
-o "$1" -lxview -lolgx -lX11 -lm
Could I use the configure script instead somehow?
Thanks

Also, check out Sympatico's own site. Do a search in their
"Help" section for "Linux." There is some limited
documentation and a couple of downloads if you look for
them.

Hi.
First of all, ACLs are not a must to irganize information. You could
make without it. However, in a sense, you are right, it's usefull.
Linux filesystem ext2fs has a place to put acl (just fumble in the
include files for the inode structure).
Here are some links to ACL implementations/discussions, etc..

Hi everyone,
I'm running bash, and I want to know how to make simple alias', for
instance if I wanted to telnet into a server, instead of typing 'telnet
somebox.somehost.com' I can just type 'telnet somebox' where somebox is
equivalence to somebox.somehost.com. I would assume I have to set the
alias in the '.bashrc' what exactly is it that I would have to put
there?

You are nearly right: it has no much sense to focus on new and better
filesystems while forgetting ACL at the same time. There is a project to
implement POSIX ACL in Linux, with homepage at http://acl.bestbits.at/
The project progresses steadly, but maybe a bit slow. It is focused on
providing ACL attributes for the ext2 Linux filesystem. It's a pity we
can't get (by now) both large file sizes, ACL and LVM.
Maybe some of the commercial filesystem ports out there provide this.

Joystick driver help ?
I'm not a neophyte to Linux, but fairly new.
I have Intel D815EEA motherboard that has integrated sound, and a game
port.
I'm using RedHat Linux 7.0.
I bought a RadioShack 8 Fire Button Digital Gamepad, which resembles the
PSX gamepad without the Start/Select buttons, and plugged it into the
gameport.
I'm having trouble installing the Linux Joystick driver,
joystick-1.2.15.
I'm stuck on the first step. Here's a line from the README file.
".... edit the Makefile to meet your needs (namely whether are you using
versioned modules)."
Edit what?!... Meet my needs?!... Then the instruction says,
"You will also need an unpacked and configured make config kernel in
/usr/src/linux"
What the hell,... I can't follow the instructions.
I went to the RPM repository and found joystick-1.2.15-5-i386.rpm.
I installed the rpm in root account; no errors.
I issued the command jstest /dev/js0, and I got the following error.
jstest: No such device
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Try inserting a static hostname/IP association in your /etc/hosts file.
The syntaxis is as follows:
192.168.1.10 machina.domain.you alias1 alias2 alias3

Hi , I have Linux mandrak 7.0 installed on my PC. Yestoday, I
accidentally changed the configuration file (XF86Setup), and afterward,
I can not start the X server. The os constantly tries to start the
server, and left the screen blank most of the time. Is there any fix for
it? I guess that I may have to use the flopy boot disk to start the os
or reinstall the os, but something suprizing happened after I tried to
put the flopy into the drive: lilo ignores the flopy disk and still
tries to start the os from the hard drive(I am sure the flopy drive is
woring properly) ! I guess that I may need to change the CMOS settings,
so I rebooted the machine and hitted the DEL key to invoke the CMOS
setup, I got another surprise: I can not access the CMOS setup screen!
the computer askes me to "Please enter current password:"!
I have never setup any password using the option of the setup superuser
password in the CMOS, I had no trouble before in accessing the CMOS
setup. What had happed here? What should I do to enable the CMOS access
and rescue my linux os? Please help!

If Mandrake 7.0 is sufficiently similar to Mandrake 7.2 (which
I have), try to boot with
linux 3
when at the Lilo prompt. That should put you in runlevel 3 which
does not automatically start X.
Then you can fix XF86Config.

My Motherboard has a jumper that resets the BIOS password.
If yours does not have such a thing, you have to remove the battery
from the BIOS for a few seconds to reset the BIOS.

i don't get any errors that point to Nvidia Glx extensions from Suse.
How can i get this (glx) to work either from suse or nvidia.

The EXT2 filesystem went through a revision between your two releases,
as the message indicates. It is possible to make an EXT2 filesystem under
the new release which can be read by the old one (see man mke2fs and the
"-O none" option), but of course it's too late for your RH6.2. You
could consider upgrading your Slackware... this would let you mount
the RH partitions.
The message you are getting about the DOS partition is different. The
problem could be that hdc5 isn't really the right partition you think
it is, or it could be you don't have the necessary modules (fat + vfat
or fat + msdos).
