Hi,
I had the same problem with another distro. (SuSE? it was a while back...)
I wound up having to recompile Vim from the source.

If you have LILO installed, add or modify the append line to read
something line 'append="hdb=ide-scsi"' (change hdb depending on what
the correct location of the cdburner is).

No, but you just need to setup ICS on your windows box, make sure it is
installed, Control Panel -> Add/remove programs -> Windows setup tab ->
Internet Tools -> Details -> Select Internet connection sharing.
Windows acts as a dhcp server to the clients, so just set up dhcp on your
linux box.

Okay. No problem. This is the way my system is setup.
As below, use DOS fdisk from within W98 to put one vfat partition on
the drive. It can or needn't take up the entire 40 GB. In fact, you
can partition only part of the drive with any number of partitions,
install Linux (or whatever), then come back later, and add more
partitions. FYI: you can only have 4 Primary partitions, but any
number of Logical ones, used for whatever OS you want.
Anyway, boot the Linux CD, reconfigure the partitions for Linux,
leaving what vfat partitions you want for Windows untouched, and
install Linux.
Most Linux installer, if you let it choose, will make two or 3
partitions for Linux: / (root) and /swap or sometimes /boot, / and
swap. It depends on where on the drive you've told the install
to put Linux.
Go to www.linuxdoc.org and download the HOWTOs on installation,
multidisk installs, and multiOS installs. They should give you a
better understanding of what's going on.

I've been having severe problems with modules and RH7
with 2.4.x kernels.
Unfortunatly I still have not found the answers.
You can tell if you have this problem if you have hardly
anything in /lib/modules/2.4.x.
This problem happens with the RPM's RH distributes on the
second CD. and with 2.4.0test kernels from kernel.org.
If anyone can compile modules on RH7 2.4.x kernels
please let us know how.

I am running Redhat 6.1, and using KDE 1. Every now and then I look
in the /dev directory and find something is changing the owner of
the device files to a regular user (the one I log in as). For the life
of me can't figure out what is going on. The files affected include
fd[0-1]*, radio, dsp, audio, sequencer, video[0-2], winradio[0-1],
js[0-3], hdd (cdrom drive), vbi[0-2], fb[0-7], vtx*, video*.
The permissions are usually set to 0600. What is going on ?

The module layout has changed in 2.4.0-test*... You may need a newer
modutils rpm (I have 2.3.19-1 installed).

I would basically use this on my webpage to check to see if I had email.
This worked fine in fetchmail 5.1.0, but now in fetchmail 5.6.0 I get

Is there anyway to pass all this info to fetchmail yet? I don't want to

Does Linux automatically recognize multiple CPUs on bootup? We will be
initially installing it on a single CPU system, but more CPUs are on
order. If we install the new CPUs, will we have to re-install Linux to
take advantage of them? How many CPUs can Linux currently utilize? We
will most likely be using Redhat.

Nothing's going on. It's what's supposed to happen. You are the
owner of the console bound devices when you log on at console aren't

SMP must be configured into the kernel. If you are going to have more
than two cpu's then I believe you will need to use a 2.4 kernel series
kernel (not officially released but available;-).

|Acroread is not really suitable for laptop presentations. It

This is a much more general question (than what your answer suggests). It
seems that there is a fidelity problem when using certain combinations of
PDF generators. This will not only hit slides but _every_ color PDF with
two or more EPS files by gnuplot. That means that 4 ft x 3 ft prints are
affected exactly in the same way... Vector based rendering (i.e. EPS
files) are realy needed. So anybody experiencing the same problems?
Anybody know where they stem from?
|I convert my postscript plots to 800x600 pngs, with
|anti-aliasing, and they generally take 24kbytes of memory or
|so. The presentation is thus quite snappy. Email me if you want
