Sounds as if you are using a DOS fdisk prior to version 7. Those
didn't see non-dos partitions. Try to obtain an fdisk from Win95/98 or
from Caldera DRDOS.V7.3 Those see non-dos partitions and will allow
deletion. DRDOS fdisk will also allow creation of no-dos partitions.
You must use "fdisk /x "as the command line for DRDOS.
Restoration of the MBR can be done from either fdisk but MS requires
that you use "fdisk /mbr" as the command line while DRDOS has it as an
option in the main menu. Much more convenient in my opinion.

I just got to work and checked my RH machines here. Both RH 6.1 and 6.2
have /usr/sbin/exportfs, at least using the install options that I
selected.
Leonard is correct that this is a fairly recent addition to most
Linuxes, and one I really appreciate after using it in HPUX for years.

no, of course not, but without more info it's a little difficult to
give you advice. first, you should check to see that lynx's really
available. did you really install it? what about your PATH? if you
compiled it yourself, there a bunch of little config file gotcha's

what about permissions? your network setup?

du counts space occupied.
FS space that is (the FS works with blocks too)
But you can write a script that recursively searches directories and by
using
ls and awk, you can count the user data bytes.

Thanks, Charles. I ended up putting the generated modelines in
XF86Config-4 monitor section and it worked great. It was confusing that
the original XF86Config had modelines included, but the original
XF86Config-4 did not!

I ended up installing kvideogen, a GREAT program that generates
Modelines with optimal refresh rates for you. Once I figured out I
should put these into XF86Config-4 (not XF86Config!) everything worked
great.

I think Creative's 8432 designation means 8x4x32, and they
have sold, at least, two different manufacturers drive using

Subject: Sleep function
Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2000 06:32:14 -0800
I use the sleep function so that my squid proxy server will start up 45
seconds after the ppp dialer activates. This way I can be certain that I
have a valid connection prior to squid starting.
Does the sleep function cause rc.local to pause, then execute the script, or
does it submit a background process that runs your script while the script
immediately continues on?
My line of code in /etc/rc.d/rc.local is as follows:
( sleep 45 ; /usr/local/squid/bin/squid ) &
For example, suppose you put 10 sleep functions in a row. Does each one
sleep sequentially so that it takes 450 seconds for rc.local to complete, or
does rc.local complete immediately with 10 functions sleeping?
Also, how can I log what's happening in rc.local while it executes. I can
never see what its actually doing. I have to wait a while and see if my
functions actually did anything.
Thanks in advance,

I don't know anyone who works with Sendmail who can't find _something_
worthwhile in the O'Reilly book (ISBN: 1-56592-222-0). I'm sure you can
pick up a used copy cheap on Ebay or at Amazon.com or wherever you like

Subject: Linux Type Opinion
Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2000 15:32:44 GMT
Hi, i'm planning on experimenting with web hosting using a DSL line to
my house. I'd like to have a Linux box as the Name Server, and the
Mail Server. So far i experimented with Slackware, i though it was
pretty decent, but it didnt agree with my computer when i upgraded to
the newer version. I played around with FreeBSD and it seems to work
the best, a little easier to use and it seems to agree with my
hardware better than slackware did. But before i go out and start
buying books about BSD, i was wondering if maybe Redhat is an option.
I've never used Redhat, so i was wondering if anyone has an opinion in
general about which Linux OS they like the best. If you are working
with a hosting company, it'd be great to hear which Linux you use, and
how it is going. Thanks for your Help / Opinions.

Hm, You should just have tried with a simple example
Then you would've found out that it sleeps pretty ample.
Ah, But there's an exception for glibc,
Which means - as far i can see...
Never ever - STOP sleep(1)
Unexpected behaviour in might creep:
After you let it CONTinuate,
It will immediately terminate.
With an termination status of EXIT_SUCCESS,
Something is wrotten in the state of - oh yess.
Watch it with strace(1), really, it's no maze.
That's a very Linux specific one.
No other OS claims that it's already done.
For all (yer) others as far as i know,
They keep queueing the__long row.
SIGSTOP/TSTP-SIGCONT is usually "transparent".
But Linux makes an exception here.
sleep(1) calls sleep(3) which (in glibc) calls nanosleep(2), which
actually returns on a SIGCONT. With EINTR. IMHO no other
nanosleep() does so.
Now, "Everybody Needs Somebody..."
to leave him holding the baby:
- nanosleep(Linus) says, glibc shouldn't implement sleep(3) that way.
(POSIX *could* be read like it mustn't terminate in this very case)
- Then, sleep(glibc) says, one always has to reuse the call-by-ref return
value and "resleep" again, in case.
- But sleep("we, commonality") hasn't heard of it anyway yet.
Weird. "Don't ever worry about it."
> Also, how can I log what's happening in rc.local while it executes.
Put in "debug output", use strace(1), find already growing logs, in case.

HI!!
I have installed RH6.2 on my cpq presario 1245 and had trouble with the
apm on bootup. The system went into sleepmode under the bootup, and
when awaken it refused to continue the boot.
Using apm=off in lilo removed the problem, but I saw it only as a
temporary solution.
After a recompilation of the kernel where I removed apm (together with
a lot of other stuff) the system boots up ok, but still goes into
sleepmode when the boot is done and the loginprompt appears, when I
awaken the computer everythings works ok and I can continue my login,
but, still, its very annoying... =)
How do I get rid of it?

Sure. In the same sense that Microsoft's "Whistler" exists and

mind taking chances with a beta release, go for it. But

I'm not a German speaker, but if I understand you're trying to
start programs when xfce starts? Try putting them in ~/.xinitrc
before the line that loads xfce.
BTW, there's an xfce mailing list you can subscribe to. Go to

i think it has something to do with the security-model...?
thanx
