Hello people,
So i have this following problem. I have a sony digital camera with
memory stick. Under windows you just plug the USB, install usb drivers
and the card is lie a removable HDD of 64 Mb.
Now, under linux, i plug the camera and with usbview it recognizes it.
But i have no idea on wich device it corresponds, so i am not able to
mount it. Also i have no idea what the filesystem is so i can give the
order mount. Anyone has any idea ?
Thank you all

I don't think you can downgrade, but if you have a separate /home partition,
you could do a clean install without initializing /home. If you do not have
a separate /home, but have some unpartitioned space, you could move the
contents of /home to a new partition with 'cp -a' which will save the links,
permissions and is recursive. You could put /etc in /home to save it so
that you would be able to access config files you might want after the
install.

Well, let's experience shows that it takes at least 20 minutes to find
something by search engines, many are slow in response and they often
have advertisors come up first or something toally unrelated. Often
the key words are to simple to do a good search. In all if I have a
question which I think others might ask then I go search the
newsgroups. If I think the question is unique enough I ask.
I don't go around asking questions like "what is slocate" ( a
wonderful tool btw I can't help thinking of all the people I pissed
off bogging down systems by doing "find / -name" back before it
existed.
This saves me considerable amounts of time. When downtime is rare
and my time is expensive ($120/hr ) it saves me lots of money.
With the money i swaved in the last few days ( along with the money
I will save not replying to you, now that you are killfiled ), I am
now going to go buy myself a new postscript laser printer.
You might call that stupid, I call it smart.

Hi!
I need help for the following problem:
Context: RH 6.2 original kernel
First symptom: ext2 root filesystem full.
I have searched for a big file (+10M).
Result: a (mysterious) junkbuster (web browsing filter) log directory:
/var/log/junkbuster : size +11M
'drwxr--r-- 2 73 73 11067392 Jan 8 14:04 junkbuster'
the directory and not the contents!!!
a 'ls' inside blocks...
a '# rm -rf /var/log/junkbuster' run in a infinite loop.
How can I remove this file?
I have tried (forced) fsck without results. No bad blocks also...
Thanks for any sugestions...

Subject: php4 problems on suse 7.0
Date: Tue, 09 Jan 2001 15:21:42 +0000
I've installed php4 as a module for apache 1.3.12 on suse 7
When it apachectl start i get an error stating
"Cannot load /usr/local/apache_1.3.12/libexec/lipphp4.so into server:
/usr/local/apache_1.3.12/libexec/lipphp4.so: undefined symbol: isfinite"
The file exists in the appropriate directory with rwx permissions for
root.
If I remove the "LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so" line from my
httpd.conf file the httpd starts without a problem.
Any advice gratefully appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

The last I heard, ext3fs was ext2fs with a journal tacked on. As such,
you can run a couple of commands to start using an ext2fs partition as
ext3fs. You can't go backwards, though; once you start using a
partition as ext3fs, you can't use it as ext2fs (at least, not for
writing, although it's supposed to work for reading). Note that I've
never used ext3fs, so this is just from reading various things. Check
the ext3fs documentation for details.
AFAIK, there's no way to dynamically convert ext2fs to ReiserFS, XFS,
JFS, or anything else; you'll need to do a backup, make a new
filesystem, and restore.

You're probably looking at what a reasonable desktop system would
need including many optional modules, documentation, etc...
If you are just running a Linux application and don't need the full
bells and whistle add-ons that go in a distribution, you can make
do with a lot less.
I saw an IBM technology demo at the Embedded Linux conference and
they were running a version of Linux (I think even with X-windows, but
don't quote me) in 8Mb on a "wristwatch".
If you want at least some operating system functions, look into Busybox.
It puts a bunch of Linux commands into a single program.

Apparently, there is no boxed version with the latest version, however,
according to the Linux-Mandrake site, when you register your product, they
tell you that you have a beta version and offer to send you an update CD in
the mail. I'm still waiting on mine. Though, the boxed version of KDE isn't
bad at all.

What you should do, as I had to do, is get a copy of the SNDCONFIG app for
Red Hat. It will probably work on almost any version of Linux, since it
worked with my Mandrake 7.2. I tried all that ALSA crap, but it never
worked. I installed SNDCONFIG from my distro CD, ran it in a shell, told it
all it wanted to know, and viola!. I tried for two straight weeks to get
the damn ALSA to work, but SNDCONFIG did it in two minutes.

check out mp3burn - a short perlscript that combines cdrecrod and mpg123

I bought mandrake 7.2, restred and 2 weeks later got my CD. The bad is that
the mandrake update didn't work as it should, and had to install packages
manually

I had this problem, which I decided was due to junkbuster's
logrotate being wonky. I filed a bug report at the junkbuster
site, which was never answered.
When I looked inside the directory (not easy!) I found that it
was a jungle logrotate .gz's, like:
junkbuster.1.gz.3.gz.1.gz...
I wish I could give you some hints, but the delete of this
monster was a nightmare, for example, doing some step on the way
to delete I hung my system after which I had to boot with a
recovery disk and my recall of what I did is dim.
After somehow deleting the file I turned off junkbuster logging
by setting debug=0 in /etc/junkbuster/config
