Moving off-topic a bit..
In England a few centuries back you had to pay rent (to the Crown) on
all freehold properties. The point of a freehold was that it could be
inherited or sold. (Land owned in some other ways could not be sold).
There have been taxes on many things in the past - even windows (in
buildings, not computers).
The BIG question - what makes a tax fair?

go2call.com,who also allows calls to international phones, plans to add linux and mac
support "soon." Then again, they aren't free either, but they are the closest thing to
what you are looking for that i have found.
They were not very informative when i asked them when their expected release date is.
oh, well
we can only hope,

A nasty work-around that might work.
Put a small (1M) DOS partition on your second disk.
It might need to be the first partition.
My system doesn't need it, even though my second drive is all Linux.
A thought - on mine the CD is hdb and the second drive is hdc. Does
having it the other way round cause the problem?

BTW, just in case someone doesn't know, Flash has a limit to the amount of writes or
erases it can do. If you use ext2fs, your flash will be useless in weeks. I have an
Agenda

the flash.

AFAIK HPT370 supports only software raid, thus you probably held with no
support. What I did was kinda lame but it works for my purposes. I installed
REDHAT and then installed VMWARE which running Windows 2000 for me.

Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2001 23:10:24 -0800
I'm running Mandrake 7.2 on an AMD Duron. After several months of no
problems, I suddenly have a lock symbol on the directories /mnt/cdrom and
/mnt/floppy, and canno mount or otherwise access that directory.
Haven't the slightest idea what caused this and have found no info with
searches of the web using "locked files" or "locked directories" etc. Have
found no info in the Linux books or Mandrake or KDE user guides, including
Konquerer guide.
I noted that if I remark out the cdrom line in /etc/fstab and reboot, the
/mnt/cdrom directory will come up with the lock icon missing that was on top
of the cdrom directory icon, and I can mount the cdrom and see its contents.
But if I " unremark the cdrom line in fstab and reboot, the /mnt/cdrom again
comes up locked with the lock icon showing and I cannot access the cdrom.
Has anyone ever seen this before and know how to clear this lock?

Hello,
I've got a question realted to installing packages with pkgadd,
pkginfo, etc... (no (s)rpm's)
We have here shell scripts to install some in-house software and
apparently they use pkgadd. But my Redhat doesn't have these commands
available... I did some searches on the web, but they seem to be hard to
find for linux.
OK, I know Sol. supports this, but I need them on linux.

When I try to setup or amend scripts in /etc/rc.d/init.d/ to let my

"daemon foo". I tried to man the daemon, but found nothing. And it
doesn't seem to be a command. What is it? Is it an alias?

Hello,
it's as others pointed out, nothing to worry about, it's just that Linux
approach:
You've paid for all that RAM, so I will use it, I've even seen this on
machines with 1 GB of RAM,
Linux takes it all in a short time after reboot, but the biggest part is
taken for buffering/caching and will
be dynamically given to new apps started if they need it.
Run:
xosview +net +disk &
you get a small X app, with nice graphs, you can watch how the kernel
handles memory, it's not like OS
made in Redmond you have to reboot, because they can't free memory, I had
to live with it for some time
developing MS sw (NT 4.0), rebooting once a day was normal...:-(
Nice weekend

This uses the Epson printer driver. You don't give much information such
as Linux type being used or anything. A lot of Linux distros don't
include Espson (dot matrix printer) support in the ghostscript they
provide. If you are using apsfilter and you setup for the Epson printer
and ghostscript gives you the error message saying 'printer not found'
you have to download and compile ghostscript yourself.

Problems begin when selecting a NIC in 'make menuconfig'. There is no

or how to insert a driver from 2.2.14 into the 2.4 tree.
Because I am only used to SuSE Linux it was a greater step to download

No information for you, just want to let you know that I'm pursuing the same
course.
I've worked with VB/MTS/SQL7/IIS/ASP in the past, and have made a commitment
to learn Linux and Java with the hope of eventually transferring as much of
my work as possible to open source / cross platform technologies.
I've just started, and currently I'm still learning the Java language (much
less the class libraries), and getting acquainted with the Unix/Linux world.
Getting up to speed on Java application servers etc. is a bit in the future
for me.

I had an e-mail exchange with someone in the Ukraine about their utterly

Also, taxes, or enforcement of tax collection, is used as a political weapon

The first disk of the dos 6.2 install set works fine as a boot disk.
Just say no when asked if you want to install. It'll leave you at the

And then you can go and install freedos. I vaguely recall a flasher
