Sorry for my instromission but it seems that the problem is true:

I have a nfs server [zibibbo], a Red Hat 7 kernel 2.4.1 linuxBox who is the
nfsv2 server

exports@zibibbo:
/w98 *(rw,no_root_squash)

when I (from zibibbbo) issue the command:

mount -t nfs zibibbo:/w98 /mnt/tmp

I Receive the following output:
[root@zibibbo /root]# mount -t nfs zibibbo:/w98 /mnt/tmp/
mount: zibibbo:/w98 failed, reason given by server: Permission denied

.... and in the log:
Feb 7 09:18:51 zibibbo rpc.mountd: authenticated mount request from
zibibbo.cantina:625 for /98 (/w98)
Feb 7 09:18:51 zibibbo rpc.mountd: getfh failed: Operation not permitted

My packages version are:
mount-2.10m-5
nfs-utils-0.1.9.1-7
libc-5.3.12-31
compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2
glibc-common-2.2-12
glibc-profile-2.2-12
glibc-2.2-12
 portmap-4.0-29
and the kernel is 2.4.1 with or without nfsv3 supported

N.B. if I issue the command
[root@zibibbo /root]# showmount -e zibibbo
/w98 *.cantina
[root@zibibbo /root]#

so it seem that the server is up and running
Evene if I try to connect from another machine (kernel 2.2.16, nfsv2 client to
nfsv2server on zibibbo) i receive the following
[root@sangiovese /root]# mount -t nfs zibibbo:/w98 /mnt/tmp/
mount: zibibbo:/w98 failed, reason given by server: Permission denied

...and the log on zibibbo
Feb 7 09:28:03 zibibbo rpc.mountd: authenticated mount request from
sangiovese.cantina:679 for /w98 (/w98)
Feb 7 09:28:03 zibibbo rpc.mountd: getfh failed: Operation not permitted
[root@zibibbo /root]#

Any Idea?

Subject: How to redirect X window outputs?
Date: Wed, 07 Feb 2001 08:26:21 GMT

I can telnet into another machine, run some programs and see
their window on my X.
(I did "xhost +other_machine", and on the other machine: "setenv
DISPLAY my_machine:0.0" - it's a Solaris with csh).

My problem is: not every program puts its output window onto
my X. I'm interested especially in the first automatically started
program to redirect its output to my desk.

How can I do this? Please help with any ideas.

Literally I'm the sysadmin on both machines and I can experiment with
them.

I tried to telnet into that machine at its startup process and
when the telnet was successful I've set the "DISPLAY" at once.
However, the windowmanager didn't show up at my screen...

Any help appreciated.

If you believe in the existance of god(s), then you area theist.
If you believe in the non-existance of god(s), then you are an atheist.
If you have no belief either way, you are an agnostic.

I'm not proscribing your belief, I'm merely telling you what it's name is.

I've missed a thing:
If I start zibibbo with the 2.2.16 kernel the NFS server works fine and it is
possible to mount and umount nfs share locally o remotely.

Hello!

There's an open-source driver set for the Live! series of cards that can be
found on http://opensource.creative.com
These drivers support most of the functions of the SB Live! cards,
including the Live! cradle, and game-ports if you have them. These are
updated almost daily (if you want to go bleedin' edge).
There's a couple of other Live! drivers for Linux as well, but none of them
(not even the commercial offering) have so many functions.
Creative are working on their own drivers for Linux, and have promised to
release a driver set with software comparable to their software for
Windows, but they haven't set a release date yet.

Subject: gnucash/g-wrap/guile problem

hello,

does anyone have a filed called require.scm that belongs to the
slib/guile 1.4 package?

I downloaded gnucash. I had to end up downloading g-wrap as well. Then I
got errors
during 'make' for g-wrap about a .scm file. I thought i had to get a new
version of guile as that's the package that has other scm files. I
downloaded guile 1.4 but I
still don't have the file I need to 'make' g-wrap which is needed by
gnucash.

Can someone send the file to my email or tell me where I can get it
since it wasn't included with guile? I got other scm files in the ice-9
directory, which is where slib is but not require.scm.

Thanks
Brandon

The Red Hat installer is not the best there is. I use to do:

1. Boot Red Hat with 'text expert'
2. Select 'Custom' installation
3. Select fdisk as the partitioning tool
4. On an empty disk, create a small (8 - 16 MB) Linux partition for /boot
5. If needed, create a FAT primary partition for Windows C:
6. Create an extended partition
7. Create other Linux partitions as logical disks inside ext partition
(swap, /, maybe a separate for /var and another for /home)

There is a catch in the extended partition: if it is intended to place
Windows FAT32 logical disks in it, change the type to 0x0f (Extended FAT32).

After writing the partition table, abort the installation.

If Windows is to be installed, boot with a Windows boot diskette (you have
one?) and format the Windows C: partition (otherwise the Windows installer
tends to destroy the work just done). Install Windows.

Boot Red Hat installation and install the system you like. Remember to tell
the installer the proper partition configuration and mount points and
remember to format the new partitions. You should make a boot disk: if
something goes awry with LILO the boot disk is worth its weight in gold.
Include the Windows partition in the LILO configuration so you can select
whether to boot Linux or Windows.

Good luck!

The listing does say anything of the /boot partition location. The 1024
cylinder limit applies to *all* of the /boot partition.

Please do a listing using fdisk:

  fdisk /dev/hda
  p
  q

The limit comes primarily from BIOS disk access: the system does not have
any other disk drivers but BIOS until the kernel is in. On the newer BIOSes
there are cylinder address extensions the newer boot programs (LILO, Grub)
are able to use. To by-pass the 1024 cylinder limitation *both* BIOS and the
loader must understand the new addressing scheme.

If you have an access to another computer running Linux and which you can
set up a LAN connection with, you could use the network installation: set
the ISO image in the helper computer using the loop option in mount and give
it out as a NFS network disk share.

The only limitation is to have a friend with a running Linux and the network
connections.

I lacks software i really need ...
A mysql GUI editor
            -be able to administer users/permissions
             -create tables/databases
-rename tables/columns/and other things that can be renamed
-delete/insert records and other things that can be
deleted/inserted
             -import/export
-a sql commander, perform sql, and show them nicely.

A WYSIWYG HTML editor, drag'n'drop, but also html source editing
                                        - AND, easy dialogs for setting
properties on the elements.
                                        - easy previewing with javascript
support, khtml will do if you choose kde2 (and kde2,qt,C++ kicks azz)

A GUI tool for vieving reports/graphs on an ftp xferlog file
            - should be able to specifie all sorts of filters...

Yet another GUI CVS client...

A GUI CVS server administrator software....

A server with the same functions as MS Exchange (minus the email features,
sendmail/pop3/imap works fine..)

A UML tool, similar to Rational Rose or TogetherJ...

A really decent C++/KDE2 IDE, KDEStudio and KDevelop got _almost_ what it
takes, except for the CodeInsight feature...

Java bindings to the Qt library, kde folks are working on it, but seems to
never get anywhere..

A web based bugtracking system in Java (JSP/Servlets based, should work in
Tomcat).

A proftpd GUI config editor, or a webmin module...
