Hello,
I remember there is a file called Documtentation/Changes (comes with every
kernel)
which mentions all progs and their versions you need to compile a kernel, did
you read it
and does your system meet the requierments?
Good look

Subject: Pass through printing in telnet session
Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 13:35:20 -0500
Heres what I am trying to accomplish.
Two Linux Boxes A & B loaded with RedHat 6.2.
A telnets to B, logs in and runs a proggy that executes vt100 Escape
Sequence (slave.on) that turns on local printing until the Escape
sequence
is traped that turns of local printing (slave.off). I have done this
with
Dumb Terminals connected by a serial connection and with telnet
sessions in
winblows using CRT's telnet emulator.
I have tried this with a Linux telnet session hoping that the telnet
session
on A would trap the slave.on/slave.off sequences and redirect output
to A's
parallel port. Needless to say I can't get it to work.
I have tried changing the TERM on B to vt100, vt102 and it still does
not
work.
The TERM setting on A is set to Linux and changing this does not work
and
only corrupts the display.
I checked /etc/termcap to actually investigate whether The Linux
terminal
definition supported slave.on/slave.off but I only got more confused.
Has anyone done this or can at least lead me in the right direction.
TIA
Steven Conway

What election rigging scams?
Oh, you must mean the ones being perpetrated by the Democrat-run
election boards, and the Democrat local governments...
Clue for the clueless: the party OUT of power in a district has
no ability to pull of election-rigging.

How do you know that what is written in any historical text is true?
Usually through coroboration of other historical materials.
The Bible is one of the most highly coroborated history texts in
existence.
>
>I've found most Christians either very hypocritical or just plain

I'm sorry that you've had that kind of experience with Christians.
And since it has been your experience, I can't say that you're wrong.
I can say that Christians are human and will make mistakes like
anyone else. Also, many can get a bit zealous and, thus, become
hypocritical. In such cases, I would hope that you wouldn't throw
out the baby with the bath water, as it were.
>
>Remember when Christians thought the earth was the center of the universe?
>Heh. Time after time, scientists prove Christians wrong again and again.
Well, _everyone_ thought that the earth was the center of the universe
until Galileo came along. Like I said, they were all just people making
a conclusion from observations, and I agree they were digging in their
heels based upon a misconception of the Bible. The Bible certainly does not
describe the earth as being the center of the universe. That was a human
invention and, I agree, erroneously in the name of religion.
Long before Christopher Columbus (or whoever :-)) the Bible in the
Psalms reverse to the "sphere of the earth".
Science is an act of identifying patterns in the observable universe
and comprehending other observations in terms of patterns from previous
observations. Names are given to things to help communicate this information.
Although I would agree that scientists have proved mass religous zealots
incorrect in some things, science also proves itself wrong as well over
time. Scientists abhore this type of change. They work very hard at
guarding their beliefs as much as the religious folk they criticize.
Scientific beliefs are based upon, as I said, observations of patterns
and drawing conclusions from that. Although our powers of observation
have increased multi-fold in the last few decades, there appears to be
no end to finding out there's so much more that is unknown or currently
unobservable. I have a high degree of respect for science with respect to
its ability to give us (a) observations and ability to see patterns
and explain phenomena, many times to our benefit, and (b) simply
revealing the beauty and structure of the universe. However, I think
many things go beyond science, and to make science effectively into a
religion is counterproductive.
>
>Religion sucks. All it does is gives man another reason to hate one
>another.
I define "religion" as man's messing up what God's will really is
and making it into his own system of laws. In that regard, I agree,
religion sucks. However, at least according to the Bible I've read
many times, there is nothing in there that says we're supposed to hate
one another. If people are hating one another in the name of "religion"
then that's man's invention of religion, not God's will.
Of course, scientists are a fine example of people who never hate
each other, always in harmonious agreement. :-)

Any microphone will work. That is something completely OS independant.
Don't know about the mp3 part...try mpg123...I'm sure there's a way to do it

Somewhere in your GUI manager you should be able to set mime types.
Assign xmms app to files with extension mp3.
If this isn't enough to go on, please post what GUI manager you

The above link will get you going but I have heard that it limits the
drive performance to Ultra33. What I would recommend is downloading a
stock kernel and applying a patch from the site below. This is kind of
tricky since you have to install it on a drive that is on the standard
VIA ide controller. Then download the kernel, patch it, compile,
install it, install lilo to your MBR and then swap the drive to the
Promise controller.

I would politely suggest doing a complete feature-by-feature comparison
of the two operating systems -- I suspect that Linux is larger because
it is, in fact, doing much more than the old DEC machines did.
Linux is lightweight when compared to many of its peers, particularly
the offerings from Microsoft. The version I use on my firewall boots
off a single 3.5" floppy and runs quite nicely on a 20MB 486 box.
Keep in mind, also, that "Linux" is actually only the kernel -- things
like XFree86 are separate services that run on multiple platforms and
are not tied to Linux in any way (really more like applications than
elements of the OS itself).

1. What distibution of Linux, what patches or modifications?
2. Is it the 2.4 kernel based nfs server, or the old userspace nfs server?
3. What does the linux nfs server say happened? (tail /var/log/messages
and /var/log/secure and run 'dmesg')
4. If it is a newer Linux, check /etc/hosts.allow for portmap access by the client

Escape the space with a backslash:
cd Internet\ Data
Alternatively, enclose the full path in quotes:
cd "/mnt/win_d/Internet Data"
