I'll check, but I'm not sure I can select the swap partition. It feels
that they are already activated (swaponned) when I get to fdisk/disk
druid. Usually, I install with text, not with expert mode... thanks for
the hint

I already have that, my "real" swap partition is /dev/hda7 (logical
inside linux's dedicated extended). The problem for me is still that
stupid anaconda swapons that and even solaris' one, corrupting my
installation.
        Thanks

Hi, yes, I've logged out and rebooted, and am using my personal user id
(not root). /etc/passwd shows my home directory correctly
("/home/userid"). If I enter "cd ~" then I am put in the correct
directory. My $HOME variable is correct as well--/home/userid. But, in
virtually every application, including Netscape, AbiWord, terminals, etc.
the default directory is now /usr/bin. Every GUI program starts out with
/usr/bin, then remembers the correct home directory when I provide it
until I exit and restart it.

I'm not sure what the deal is other than it's odd. I know I did install
the Ximian Gnome desktop around the same time that this started, but given
that I've installed a number of programs lately, that's not much of a
lead.

no, why would a user want something that might work. that means they couldn't

Well, I'm just executing it from the Gnome panel. But you appear to have
hit on something--if I run Netscape (or any other application) from my
home directory on the command line then my home directory is used, as
desired. But if I run them from the panel then /usr/bin gets used.

Unfortunately not. du calculate the needed diskspace on the current
filesystem (reiserFS or ext2), but not its space on the target-filesystem
(joliet-iso9660). On the other hand du is very usefor for calculating the
space for a folder and its subfolder, but no use for calculating the space
for 100.000nds of files seperately, which is what I need.

You should have a file ifcfg-eth0, notice that your GATEWAYDEV points

It plays beautifully, but does not record. Can someone help?

I just compiled the 2.2.19 kernel with gcc 2.95.3.
Compiles and runs just fine. I recompiled the
iBCS 2.1 module and it compiles just fine, too.
However, when I try to insmod iBCS it complains
about variable strlen_user undefined.

Everything works fine under 2.2.18.

Anybody else see this? Anybody know how to fix this?

TIA.

And what lines are in /etc/conf.modules for the network?

In my (admittedly limited) experience using 3c509 cards on several
computers, if there is an 'options' line there for the card that
gives address/IRQ info you'll get this failure. All that should '
be there (for the 3c509) is a line like:

        alias eth0 3c509

If there are any others, comment them out and try rebooting.

Also, I assume you've already set the card to have PNP turned OFF ??
if not I suggest you do so.

In my experience of making ISO images, I never have more than 500k of
overhead. I normally use the output of du and add 500k to it to do
the estimate. It comes very close. If I have to add more, I just
recreate the ISO file. It does not take long to regenerate an ISO
image. I use a slow machine (Sparc5 85MHz cpu). It takes about 12-14
minutes to make an 650MB ISO image. Don't forget 650MB is 681574400
bytes and 700MB is 734003200 bytes. If your cpu is faster than mine,
you can afford to recreate as often as you need.

Es geht nicht mit folgender Einstellung:

holger:/home/holger # lsmod =

Dann druckt er wieder:

Ich denke mal da fehlt einfach das Modul "printer"?!?

Not quite. It's not _free_, but the Office Software Developers Kit does
provide details on the file formats, and Microsoft Developers Network has
even more infomation in this vein. FWLIW, there was no file format change
from Excel 97 to 2K. At least with regard to spreadsheets, arguing that the
product with 90%+ market share doesn't set a de facto standard is just
silly. That _doesn't_ mean we need to like it, though.
