I am trying to view an NTFS (WIn NT 4) partition under X and with
midnight commander with Redhat 7.0 with kernel 2.4.1.
The partition mounts correctly when I mount it after logon as root - I can cd and
view the directory structure and files in that partition.
When I run midnight commander and try to view the same partition - I cant
see ANYTHING (yes I am viewing the right place on my tree).
When I exit MC and run X- I still cant see anything with gmc.
When I then run a console session under X- no problem! I can cd and view all
the contents etc.
Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Yes they can - It seems like you have a configuration problem, look art the
samba config file. The last time I had a similar problem I had to add
entries to my PC hosts files.

Don't know if it is included with RH - as is the case with SuSE -
but look for "scsiformat" as part of a package named "scsitools",
"scsiconfig" or similar. Maybe search for one of these at
freshmeat etc.
That might do the job - but I'm not sure if it is able to
change the HW sector size of 520 (IIRC) to 512 bytes (?).

I had deleted a FAT32 partition and created two smaller ones(a FAT32 and a
Linux partition) in it's place using fdisk. I noticed that this renummered
my paritions in a different order because of which the original parition
no where / was residing, 8 was now renumbered to 5. I rebooted the system
without modifying my /etc/lilo.conf to reflect the new partition number
that / was assigned by fdisk.
On booting after displaying a few initial messages I get the following
error.
Invalid session no. or type of track
Kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 10:08
Could someone please help me. I tried the RH 7.0 startup disk, but that to
gave me exactly the same error. Since I desperately need access to my
files in there, I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me fix
this.
Thanx a ton in advance,

With SuSE 7.0 and 7.1, there is a program called lprsetup. I'm not sure if
it's SuSE specific or not but it allows you to setup the apsfilter to work
with most of the HP Deskjets. I have a 722c working great with both the
color and mono settings.
Good luck,

All your machines are in one physikal network, and have different
subnets? You need a gateway to communicate between those different
subnets! That sounds more like a general network problem than a samba
problem. Can you ping from your private subnet into the public one? What
kind of address has the samba server?

Subject: Virtual machines: multiple linux in 1 PC ?
Date: 29 Mar 2001 08:40:24 GMT
There is implementation of cluster of linux working together to
speed up the computation. But, in most situation, nowadays PC
performance is so high that we could use one PC for several purposes.
Tens of years ago, there was already the concept for Virtual machine.
Several OS running on one machine.
Why ? Think about that, I hate M$ product so I would like to use
a Linux. I may need a certain version of Linux, such that it can
run certain version of octave which support the functions I needed.
But I also need a older version of Caldera OpenLinux because I
want to run the NW4.1 which could only run on Linux 2.0.35, ...
And I also need to use MS-DOS or Windows 95 because some of the
office work demand for it, ...
So, if we could have a virtual machine set up, which run Redhat
7.0 as file server with samba, appletalk, ... at the same time,
it runs the OpenLinux 1.2 for netware server support, and it also
runs the windows 95, ... They communicate with each other via
IP masquerading.
Is there such a beast in the world ?

Is this a joke or do you really think that? My co-worker just crashed is
ME and lost a couple of days in the planning. Where can I get

Everytime I boot Windows (98SE, yes I still do it; developing Windows
