Thanks.

Fortunately for me, my last remaining brain-cell re-activated for just
enough time for me to work out what I needed to do.

Doh!

Cheers!

A couple of things...

1) Have you disabled the getty associated with /dev/ttyS1 (if there is
   one)?
2) How are you trying to print? Are you using something like
     'print some-file | lpr'
   or are you using
     'print some-file | lpr -Papple'

Could you show us what command you use to print with and the error
message(s) it generates?

Chances are you are not running DNS or the client is not in /etc/hosts. When
you connect the server is timing out trying to resolve your hostname.

What is the exact error message that is logged by the host computer?
Does it say something like "password not found"? I was having trouble
with the same situation and it looks like the "user" running the ftp
daemon didn't have access to the password file. You could try running it
as root to see if that's the case.

that means it is using software GL... Chack the kernel module is loaded and
that DRI is enabled in your XF86Config, and that you have read and write
access in the DRI mode command.

Last time I tried this, it failed. They may have fixed it in newer

The prob is caused by the 3dfx driver not supporting SMP.

Hi everyone,

I installed Ximian Gnome 1.4 this morning and after the install it asked if
I would like to use the new Login manager or leave my configuration as it
was. Since I had customized my Login manager, I told it not to change
anything, but when I restarted X it had been changed anyway. No problem
except when I modify the gdm.conf and Xsetup_0 files to put in my
customizations again they don't work anymore! How do I customize my login
manager with a custom logo and background with this new version of Ximian?

Thanks in advance,
Erik

Subject: Fixing Netscape/acroread error: "Warning: locale.."
Date: Wed, 02 May 2001 08:59:19 -0700

I have been running:

$ rpm -qa |grep netscape
netscape-common-4.77-1
netscape-navigator-4.77-1
netscape-communicator-4.77-1

and

$ rpm -qv acroread
acroread-4.05-6

on RH 7.1. Whenever I accessed a .pdf file on the Web in
Netscape, I would see a dialog box:

"Warning: locale not supported by C library, locale unchanged"

I changed a line in the shell script, /usr/bin/netscape:
===
...
# Hi, I'm netscape, and I have broken locale handling.
if [ -n "$LC_ALL" ]; then
  LC_ALL=`echo $LC_ALL | sed "s|_|-|g"`
fi
if [ -n "$LANG" ]; then
# 5-2-01 try to disable error with acroread
  #LANG=`echo $LANG | sed "s|_|-|g"`
  LANG=`echo $LANG`
fi
..
===
which seems to fix this error.

FWIW, so anyone else who is seeing this might try this also.

Hi,

 my DE-620 pccard stopped working after upgrading the kernel from
2.4.3-ac7 to 2.4.4. This is on a Toshiba 4080XCDT. I used the "good"

at startup are:

 As I said, worked fine until/including 2.4.3-ac7. Any ideas? And before
I forget, the base System is SuSe7.1 and all the packages mentioned in
Documentation/Changes are at the required (or better) levels.

        Well, off the top of my head...in bash,
let NEXTGID=`cut -d':' -f3 < /etc/group | sort -n | tail -1`+1
will put the next highest available GID in $NEXTGID. Not super-elegant,

Try putting the following on the NT machine:
route -p add 172.20.0.0 mask 255.255.0.0 172.20.117.24(?) ADDR OF nt BOX
the -p makes this permanent in the registry.

I had the same problem when I upgraded from RH 5.2 to 6.0 using M1. I
dumped pump (what a pain in the ass, won't let you execute a script to
reset your firewall when you get a new dhcp lease).

Here is the main key to my eventual solution: I also had to re install
the initscripts rpm, because it has the correct ifup and ifdown for
dhcpcd, which pump _overwrites_.

Try this, see how it goes.
good luck

What does 'man tar' tell you? (Sorry, the newest distro I've seen is RH
6.1)
