A long shot, but have you put a http server in place that also handles ftp
and requires some setup?

This is how I install StarOffice 5.2. Hope it helps.
You will need to do the following as "root or "su" to root and install
it by following these steps.
chown 0.0 so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-en.bin
# this makes it owned by root
chmod 755 so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-en.bin
# make it executable
"cd" into the directory where the file is and run:
./so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-en.bin /net
Install it where ever you want it, I will use "/usr/local/office52" for
example purposes. Once you have it installed you may need to change
the path to where you installed it in the next step.
Make a symlink so normal users can use it.
ln -s /usr/local/office52/program/soffice /usr/bin/soffice
The only thing left is to login as a user and run.
soffice
For each user that runs "soffice" for the first time It will
automatically install the user files.

Yes, check "man man" the -k option,

The kernel driver probably does work but the alsa drivers are clearly
miles superior. So if you have problems with the kernel driver, that
would be your first, painless, option. Anyway, you have presented no
data, so for all I know you are spelling the driver name wrong ...
what are these "lines" that you have added, and what does the resulting
modules.conf look like, and what is the result of loading the cs4232
module (with modprobe, show dmesg output)?

You are not mentioning what distribution and what version. If it is Red

Kernel 2.2.19 is on security.debian.org and if I'm not mistaken also in the
base of 2.2r3. Only be aware that the pcmcia-modules for 2.2.19 are still
in proposed updates.
Kernel 2.2.19 has some updates for the VM-part and a security fix.

It's your shell or the login program itself. Look at their man pages.

I don't get why you have to "wait". Install it directly from the ftp
site. Stick in boot floppy, select install via ftp, and there you go.
Insistence on an iso image seems plain perverse to me.
Once it's installed, back it up (to an iso if you like) and start
playing.

My default shell is tcsh. And after installing rh7.1 and I telnet

print my system announcement in /etc/motd. And it then print the
message of command "env"(somewhat like the command). I have no

bash. Any suggestion is appreciated and please mail to my mailbox.

I think that use of Linux is too widespread for individual anecdotes to
have much significance anymore. It's more or less standard now for
people in technical departments to be using Linux.
Here's my anecdote: I work at the University of Utah. I bought a PC a
few weeks ago from a company in Salt Lake City. The salesman knew I
was at the U. and when I specified that I would be using Linux on the
machine, he asked if I was with `the project' at the CS department. He
was referring to some project that had just bought 150 PC's from him
for a Linux Beowulf cluster. The fact is, I didn't even know about that
project. I will probably be working with another group there soon that
does research on OS, networking, and systems technologies. Part of
what they do is based on ripping out pieces of Linux and modifying them
in interesting ways. Can't do that without the source.

Some people don't have a fast internet connection on all of their
computers. Some people like to give Linux distro's to their friends
who access the internet by modem.
I just passed SUSE by when I was looking for a new Linux Distro with
kernel 2.4.x to play with, strictly because their distro is not
available as ISO. Too bad, I'd heard a lot of good things about
SUSE. Oh well, Mandrake 8.0 seems to fit my requirements well
enough.
