You might also make sure the network card is not in plug and play mode. I had
the same problem with a compex rl2000a adapter, and I had to disable plug and
play mode. Then, I treated it as a ne2000, and it probed it fine. If this is not
the case, try what the guy above wrote...

First, I would get the RedHat distribution of Linux. It is the best -
especially if you're just starting out ... it helps to organize a lot of
the technical configuration tasks that need to be done in an installation
and setup.
Then, make sure your NIC is supported by Linux -- because just getting the
network card set up in Linux can be a real hassle in itself. (see the
index of the RedHat book that comes with the distribution or see the
redhat website (www.redhat.com) for a list of NICs with supported drivers.
Now, you simply install Linux on your machine (the RedHat distribution
will step you through nicely), and Apache will be up and running when you
are done. All current documentation for Apache will be up on your system
so you can then learn about tuning Apache to suit your needs.
I actually have just done the same thing (set up Apache on Linux as a
webserver), so if you have any other questions, drop me a line.

Subject: Mounting NFS filesystems from Irix 4.0
Date: 02 Feb 1999 16:25:12 +0100
Hi,
I have been trying to mount an NFS filesystem on a machine
running Linux RedHat 5.2 from a Silicon Graphics running Irix 4.0.1;
it issues no error when I do mount, but when I try to list the
directory, it says
Stale NFS filehandle
Some other times, when I try to mount, I get the error
mount: xxx:/home server not responding: Program not registered
mount: backgrounding
/usr/xxx
Any help? I think it must be due to NFS version incompatibily, but
maybe I can force the NFS server in the Linux machine to run in
compatible mode...
Thanks!

Are the scripts just not running (i.e., the browser just displays the Perl
rather than executing it)?
If so, I would check the srm.conf file. In here, you must specify the
directory where cgi scripts will reside. Perhaps, on your system the cgi
script directory is not ~/public_html/cgi-bin/
In this file, look at ScriptAlias and handlers
I just configured my (RedHat 5.2) Linux Apache webserver to handle CGI
scripts - that was a problem I encountered.

Hi,
is it possible to have a linux machine on two networks ie an internal
10.x.x.x and an external one (a real IP address), with a single Ethernet
card ? Basically, I want my Linux machine to be visible to our internal LAN,
and also from the internet
I have Linux redhat 5.2

Hey, it seems to be working now, I just accessed your server and the page
loads fine, you probably had to restart or something for the changes to take
affect.

I've seen some quirks in the tape driver or some tape drives in and
around EOF marks. I'm not sure which quirk you are hitting without
doing some more extensive testing. These quirks are the result of
a long drawn out dark history of strange and exotic interpretations
of how tape drives should behave and how some drivers have made tape
drives appear to behave. Then when things get fixed, something else
has to be intentionally broken so that compatibility is restored.
Try doing:
mt bsr 2
mt fsf 1
Then see if that lands you in the correct position. I don't know if
it will or not since it don't know which quirk is involved, but it is
the next thing I would try in order to diagnose the behaviour.

I have a network with Linux and Windows 9x machines.
Printers are attached on both kind systems.
Can I share the printers ? like HP Laser is on Windows and HP 660c is on
Linux, but should be usable for both Linux and Windows.
