Yea! I also used that webpage to help me. But i'm still having a little bit
of a problem...

I'm using RH5.2 (Kernel 2.00.36). Everything pretty much works.. when I give
the dial-up lines an IP address in the same Class C address as the IP
address of eth0, but it doesn't work if it's not... see if you can follow me
here:

(the IP addresses have been change to protect the innocent :)

eth0 = 192.168.1.10
ttyD0 (port 1 of my digiboard) = 192.168.1.100

THAT WORKS! However:

eth0 = 192.168.1.10
ttyD0 = 192.168.2.100

does *NOT* work...

I'm pretty sure there is a routing problem... anyone got any ideas?

tcl is also very useful and easy to use for "automagic" ftp and telnet
sessions.

Hey Guys...

I'm looking for some help from anyone out there with a
Telepath 33.6 or USR 33.6 modem that has actually gotten a PPP Dialup
working in linux. I am currently running Slackware 3.6 ( Linux Kernel
2.0.38 I believe ) . I would appreciate if someone would e-mail me the
reply as well if at all possible. I can't seem to find the right init
string. Please include this in your message. I really appreciate any
help you could give me.

                                Thanks in advance,

I am trying to connect my desktop and notebook using PLIP.

I am able to get the PLIP connection set up, and can successfully PING between
the two machines. However, I am having trouble accessing files.

I have the desktop set up as 192.168.25.1, the notebook as 192.168.25.2.

The desktop has the following line in the /etc/exports file:

        /shared_folder 192.168.25.2

I then tried to mount the deskop folder /shared_folder by typing the following
on the notebook:

        mount -t nfs 192.168.25.1:/shared_folder /mnt/desktop

and receive the following error:

Mount: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Unable to receive

What have I forgotten/done wrong??

Thanks,

I'm almost there. I've gotten my printer hanging of the linux box printer
port to be seen by the mac. And I'm piping stuff into the lp queue, hoping
to use the ghostscript emulation. But now I need a ppd file that resembles
what ghostscript + an HP Deskjet 500 are capable of. The ftp URL on the howtos
is dead. They seem to have disappeared from the adobe web site.

Anybody have one or know where they are?

We have used dead rock stars up to now. Hendrix is our main box,
with lennon (mine at home), valens, bonham, elvis, joplin, vaughan,
and jones in use so far. Scalability has _not_ been a problem. ;-)

I have an Intel 440BX motherboard with dual Proc. Slots (I'm only using one
proc tho) and the motherboard has an Adaptec aci-7840 shipset Ultra-SCSI2
adapter built in.

I am trying to install RH 5.1 (I just started to download 5.2 with the 2.2
kernal update, but thought I'd try 5.1 first). The main HD is on the SCSI
adapter and the only IDE device is the CD-ROM.

The bios sees it just fine, but when I boot to the CD-ROM kernal and do the
SCSI set-up, it can't auto-probe it and I can't find anything that relates
to the parameters I need to use to pass to the module.

Has anyone else had experience with this, or can point me in the right
direction?
Am I just stuck until I get 5.2 all ready to install?

I've checked LDP, extensivly searched usenet, and the web and can't find too
much help so far.

any help is appreciated greatly.

Make sure you don't have the NIC set up for pnp also. You should have a
config program on a disk for the NIC that runs in dos. If not you can
download one for free.

If you think that you can't find a job there, try here in Greece.
Besides the fact that programmers are horribly underpaid (less than
a dock worker for sure) you must have at least a BSc in Computer
Science not to mention most companies asking for an Msc.

I myself have just completed a BSc in Comp. Science at the local
university and I have learned one thing. No one wants employees to
work with UNIX'es. That's because no one runs any UNIX clone
at work ; most run Win NT (I have come across a company that runs
an AS/400 server ; where the **** am I supposed to know how to use
this thing ?)

Moreover most employers want programmers to work on
applications like warehouse/logistic programs/tax calculators and
of course all sorts of DATABASES. Essentially you have to know
the inn's and out's of ORACLE Designer 2000 and Powersoft's Powerbuilder.
(there are some who ask for experience in object databases -
object store etc.)

Any comments welcome,

However ... as one said, the availability of `serious' jobs
(UNIX administration and programming) is analogous to the
financial and industrial status of the state/country.

Dimitris

PS.
Pavel, are you sure you want to do programming for the next 20 or so
years ? Since you are a linux guy, you might be more satisfied with
network administration. Programming is fine, as long as you are
programming the way you like and on a subject you enjoy. Most of
the time this isn't the case with commercial companies.

i just started getting this error while trying to install my 3c509 module
...

init_module: device or resource busy

this had been working for years, and now doesn't ... the most significant
change i made today was going into windows for the first time in a looong
time ... i think things still worked after that though, which is puzzling
...

i've tried putting the card into pnp mode and using isapnptools, which
seemed to configure it correctly, and also disabling pnp and setting the
card with the 3com install program -- no luck ... still works for windows
though ... there are no irq or ioport conflicts that i can see, and i
can't think of any reason why it would be thought that the 'device or
resource' is busy ...

any help?
