What you might also want to try is a program called Sygate from Sybergen.
(http://www.sybergen.com). I have found that this program works a lot better
than Wingate ever did for me, and installation is painless. There is a trial
version out that you can use if you need to test it, and the three user
license is quite reasonably priced (I support software that works for me,
thank you.)

I rekon you're pretty much stuffed cause changing the ip of the box would
have reset the routing for that ip rendering the box unaccessable through
that ip. Hopefully this box isn't in a vault somewhere that can be accessed
by someone sitting at it.

I am a user of gaim, the Gnu AIM client. Just today I noticed that the buddy
list has been wiped (perhaps something to do with AOL?) but that it still
connects fine. Makes you feel good about AOL and their misgivings for a free
client for everyone, eh?

The Samba-HOWTO should be enough to get things to work
first set up your tcp/ip network, ping to test it
then install the sambaserver from the rpm, this should make a directory in
home named samba. with linuxconf setup a directory to share stuff. then run
"samba start" and you should have youself a pretty cool smb server

It's a quite normal case for multiple virtual domains to point to one IP
address. The request are not dislingueshed from the IP address but from
the HTTP request. This request should contain the domain name.

Routing a domain is non-sense. One can route IP packets but not domains!

You need to forward this ports to your windows machine using ipmasqadm
since unsolicited packets will not be demasqueraded.

Your input and output rules make no sense. You should never see packets
coming into your box 192.168.1.1 to your internal addresses 192.168.1.2
nor your box should send out such packets. If it does so you should be
concerned about the integrity of your network.

You just need to set the gateway in linux to the IP of your NT box. The
share files between Linux and Windows you can use Samba
(http://www.samba.org).

You don't give an explicit gateway address in this case. All you should
do is giving "defaultroute" option to pppd daemon. Then, upon a ppp
connection, pppd will establish default route dynamically with the
obtained IP address. Pppd reverts it back when connection is dropped.
For more detailed info see "man pppd".

Hi Chad
The trick is dhcp, you have to have it on your machine in order
to connect to @home.
First remove the program pump from your system its broken and
keeps you from getting the dns server to see you. rpm -e pump
Next try dhcpcd -h your hostname, i/e dhcpcd -h ci123456-a from
the command line if you get back a ip number then we can put the
dhcp command in the rc.local, if not you'll have to install it
off the disk, not sure about the mandrake disb. but it's on the
redhat 6.0 in the rpms dir.
once you can get the ip number back, go to /etc/rc.d/rc.local
file and add this to the bottom of the file
dhcpcd -h your hostname
When you use the cable modem make sure you turn it on and warm up
before starting linux, otherwise you will get a dhcp time out on
the system.
this works for me on @home here in Georgia.

Hi Sergey,
I vaguely remember from man pppd that, remote IP address could be
negotiated and changed in demand dialing setup, even if you set it up in
session initialization. I do not readily know how it can be achieved.
But the most sensible way seems that: You both give
<local-IP>:<remote-IP> *and ipcp-accept-remote options. That way, pppd
will initialize the link with <remotr-IP>, but still will negotiate it
with remote side. As far as I remember it was not recommended (but
possible) to renegotiate the remote IP address of a demand link. I
didn't know why, then looked into pppd man page and found the following:
~~~~~~~
When the demand option is used, the interface IP addresses have
already been set at the point when IPCP comes up. If pppd has not
been able to negotiate the same addresses that it used to configure
the interface (for example when the peer is an ISP that uses dynamic
IP address assignment), pppd has to change the interface IP
addresses to the negotiated addresses. This may disrupt existing
connections, and the use of demand dialling with peers that do dynamic
IP address assignment is not recommended.
I have been trying to get the 'ppp-on' and 'ppp-on-dialer' scripts
working with Red Hat 6.0. Everytime I run 'ppp-on' it calls on
'ppp-on-dialer' but fails during the modem initialization.
When I send a AT (or ATZ) I get not 'OK' in responce.
I am able to connect via the 'linuxconf' application -- I just
select the appropiate PPP properties and hit 'Connect' in the dial up
script editor. This works fine, but it is just a little more work then
I want. :)
The reason I am trying to get this to work is I downloaded "wmppp"
and have it in my dock. It allows me to turn on and off the
PPP conncetion via scripts -- so I am trying to get those scripts to
work correctlly.
If anyone can help me get these scripts to work, or point me to some
other scripts that might do the trick, I would greatly appreciate it.
(if possible, please respond via e-mail too).
Nick
P.S. I did look into the scripts that 'linuxconf' writes to create
and destroy the connection. I tried running them but there are a few
things in the environment that are not set correctly in a command line
operation. I plan on playing with this, but if anyone knows how to get
these scripts to work from a command line, that would be great!!
It sounds to me like there might be some options in /etc/conf.modules that
the options set forth in /etc/conf.modules was different from what the
How do you expect chat to know about the modem? This will work
chat '' ATZ OK 'ATDTsomenumber;' OK '\d\d' < /dev/modem > /dev/modem
with /dev/modem a link to the modem ttySx (or use the ttySx directly)
x=whatever for your modem and the right permissions for /dev/ttySx.
It provides a two second delay before it terminates after dialing.
Use "man chat" to verify the delay. You can very likely drop the ATZ OK,
it's an old habit of mine.
