        Yes, now I placed 33600 in the httpd options file
        and got a 9600 connection (not 33600!)

        I got faster transfer rates but the
        transfer rate dropped gradually from 7.6k/sec to 6.8k/sec
        and then the transfer got stalled. (13% or 8535K downloaded)
        
        My email program (Pine) also lost its connection to
        the server. [-right now-]
        
        After a minute of inactivity my modem just hung up.
