Here's my situation:

I have a dual boot machine, a K6-300, running Linux and 98.
Most of the time I am running Linux. 98 exists only for
playing Quake/Quake 2, and other Net games, so Linux is the
"Primary" OS. I want to run a non-anonymous FTP server, and
perhaps allow other services as time goes on. The FTP services
will only run when Linux is up (don't want to interfere
w/gaming.)

I am considering buying a seperate Box, perhaps a 486, to
place on the cable modem 24/7, and use IP Masq to connect
the Linux/98 box through it, like so:

 Linux/98_Dual ----- 486_w/IP_Masq ------ Cable_Modem

where the ----- is 10Mbps Ethernet.

If I do get the other box (the 486), I will move the FTP
services to that machine.
Fine. This seems resonable. But I have some concerns:

1) Will I be able to run GameSpy on the Dual-boot machine
through the 486 (which is doing IP-Masq)?
   Anyone tried this?

2) Since 98 is mostly for game-play, how will the IP-Masq
effect ping-time and lag? (keeping in mind the 10Mbps
connection between the machines is much faster than
the cable modem connection to the outside world.)

Yes, I know that my concerns are mostly gaming oriented, but
that's the only reason I have a Dual-boot System in the first
place.

Thanks,

Bryan Scaringe
